DOCTOR STRANGE ( 1978)

Return on my Journey through 1970s telefilms, I took a stop to the Marvel universe with the first and often forgotten TV Movie adaptation , of Doctor Strange .
While I saw
The Amazing Spiderman and
The Incredible Hulk tv series , growing up in the 90s,
Doctor Strange ,from 1978 , was never available to me , until it started appearing on Youtube .
While the film is stilted in parts , and it's not up to the standards that fandom today expects from CB adaptations, I found myself liking, and enjoying it more and more .
Inevitably, comparisons are going to be made between Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange and Peter Hooten's Stephen Strange .
I will say , I liked Hooten's suave, charming, and heroic, take of the Sorcerer Supreme, and Hooten play's the character with a bit of a naughty, school boy ,charm .
If Cumberbatch's Strange is Dr. House from the tv show
House, Hooten's Strange is George Clooney's Dr. Ross from
ER .
He's a ladies man for certain , and while he doesn't believe in magic and the supernatural, he is a good man , who wants to help people.
Jessica Walter is stunning, and does a great job as the evil seductress Morgan Le Fay.
There's a strong mutual attraction ,and chemistry, between our hero and villainess, an interesting dynamic that really isn't used all that often in Comic Book Movie genre.
The film features characters such as Wong and Clea , while the character Lindmer , plays an Obi Wan Kenobi like mentor to the skeptical , Stephen Strange .
So, all in all, I ended up liking it , and while it's clearly setting things up for a potential series, the film still works as a standalone telefilm imo.
Airing September 6, 1978 , among the top ten , was hit from the Soundtrack to
Grease, sung by the immortal Olivia Newton John.
