I have a question or two for anyone kind enough to answer.

Been busy lately and haven't been keeping up on what may or may not have come out yet for Iron Man. I mainly collect tpb's so I don't have to worry about missing any single issues if they happen to sell out at the 'ol comic shop.

The last tpb's I got were Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D, Secret Invasion: War Machine(collects issues #33-35), The Invincible Iron Man vol1(The Five Nightmares), Invincible Iron Man vol2(World's Most Wanted) and I preordered the trade for Vol3.

Starting with Extremis(I have Extremis on up to those)did I miss out on any others?

The initial Iron Man story that started with Extremis has now become a full on War Machine story, right? I think War Machine is pretty cool but have always been a huge fan of Iron Man/Stark mainly. Should I be reading the War Machine series now to keep up with other stuff going on in The Invincible Iron series by Matt Fraction or can I skip it?

It doesn't really have anything to do with Fraction's IM series, so you don't have to read it if you don't want to.

As far as it's content, does the idea of a suddenly a cyborg, kill happy, Rhodey get you excited....in your pants? If so, then by all means, read it. If it makes you physically ill just thinking about it then I suggest you avoid it like the plague.

War Machine has nothing to do with Invincible Iron Man.

Thanks for the reply. Didn't know if they would have them crossover into each other's comics to team up due to it being the Marvel universe and all.

I guess I'll avoid it like the plague. The cyborg idea sounds like they're trying too hard to make him cool, plus the kill happy thing just makes me think they want to make him dark and gritty...to make him cool. :csad:

Essentially from the trades that I own/preordered, I am up to date for the most part then?

Yeah, Fraction's run was very much a new beginning, so all you really need for the current Iron Man story is:

The Five Nightmares
World's Most Wanted, Volume 1
World's Most Wanted, Volume 2

Though if you wanted to be more of a completist of this era of Iron Man's history, going back to Warren Ellis' Extremis, the run of the Knaufs (which I haven't picked up yet) fills in the gaps between Extremis and Fraction's run:

Execute Program
Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Civil War: Iron Man
Haunted

Its worth reading because the Knauf's run on Iron Man (specifically once he becomes Director) is the best run in years.

The Knaufs' Iron Man: Director of SHIELD was easily better than Invincible Iron Man when they co-existed.

I had a glimpse at the Civil War: Iron Man graphic novel in the shop a couple of weeks back. The Casualties of War oneshot included in the package seemed really damn good. But I recently bought The Confession (also in the graphic novel) as a single issue, so I wasn't sure if it was worthwhile buying the graphic novel.

Speaking of Casualties of War and The Confession, was the tie-ins kicking the ass of the core Millar-written event a trend anyone else picked up on?

This is true, though to be fair Invincible Iron Man was still playing around with the "SON OF STANE!" nonsense and "World's Most Wanted" has been a much better story.

Director was still better though. ;)

Yeah, it is an unfair comparison. DoS even had "Haunted" going on alongside IIM's Stane, Jr. arc, right? "Haunted" was magnificent.

Ugh, as far as the Iron Man story line I'm a fan of goes, I didn't really like the Invincible Iron Man to be honest. Though I think that's because I'm pretty much obsessed with the story line from the Live Action film, and pretty goddamn hyped about Iron Man 2 (which I'm going to see in a pretty popular cinema in England by the way)

I've been really keen to pick up Haunted to see how The Mandarin is portrayed, but people have told me I really need to go back to Execute Program and read everything up to Haunted from there before I can really enjoy Haunted, so that's kinda intimidated me a bit.

It does work better if you've read the rest of the Knaufs' run. But the whole run is great, so there's no reason not to read it anyway. :oldrazz:

Execute Program helps to give Director and Haunted some context.

And to Execute's credit I really liked the Iron Man vs Sentry bit.

I already have all those. :yay:

Well it's good to know in the past few busy months in my life that I haven't fallen behind. Thanks for the replies everyone.

What in the world happened to the Knaufs anyway? They just disappeared after doing arguably ironman's best run in years! Was the title not selling well under them?

Joe Q. was asked about and he said that nothing was planned at this time.

It's interesting, while I like Fraction's run so far I actually liked the Knauf's better. Fraction's certainly reads better in trade but individual issues are pretty forgettable IMHO

I just wished they'd at least tell us whats happening with them. They just kinda quietly exited the scene and we never heard from them again. Oh well...

They put the comic writing on hiatus while they bang out that new Phantom Script.
