Comics Official NEW MUTANTS Discussion Thread

Agreed. Dani would be the weirdest choice because isn't she powerless?

I guess it would really be no different then when Prodigy was leading TNM in Academy X. I mean, yeah he had that 'absorbing' power but really he was nothing more then a really smart guy when no one was round for him to buddy off of :whatever:

But yeah. Screw Dani.

Prodigy was the co-leader, along with Wind Dancer... who I'm pretty sure did absolutely nothing. Nevermind. Prodigy was pretty much the only leader until he lost his powers.

Dani used to co-lead the original New Mutants with Cannonball, but even I don't see the point when she's powerless. And I'm a Dani Moonstar fan. I say Cannonball leads the team.

Prodigy was kind of a pretentious leader when he lead his team though, but that's just the impression I got. I hated those stupid glasses he had that told him everything hah

But yeah, I'm hoping for Cannonball as well.

Everyone had those stupid glasses in those days. Well, everyone on Storm's team had them.

I know, that's why he's such an unremarkable leader. All his 'decisions' were just based off crap that those glasses told him.

Mind you, there wasn't anyone else on the team who would have been able to lead- maybe Surge. I'm not sure how she was as a leader, because I dropped that book before then.

I can't remember who even lead the original New Mutants though, I read some of them awhile back but not enough for it to stick with me apparently. I just hope for Cannonball because he's always been a favourite of mine in Uncanny when he's appeared

Original New Mutants: Cannonball & Psyche (Dani) together, then Cable alone
Academy X New Mutants: Dani, Prodigy, & Wind Dancer together
New X-Men: Surge
Young X-Men: Dani & Sunspot

Prodigy was supposedly an excellent tactician even without the glasses, though god only knows if he just gleaned that skill off of Cyclops.

Rememebr how initially the colorists got the colors wrong on the cover to New Mutants Saga and had Karma colored as Rahne. Thankfully sonmeone at Marvel noticed and fixed it

Boo to the Dani hate! She rocks and I think she would be a great choice as leader again. She has it in her and has experience from before

What the hell is up with them constantly showing Cypher and Warlock in the promo art? I don't mind Warlock coming back, but who the hell asked for Cypher to come back? He was so un-missed that nobody fussed when Cipher was introduced in Young X-Men.

I like Cypher.:csad:
I liked Cypher too. I dont think he's a character that needs to return, but I wouldnt be upset to see him again.

I thought he was dead
He is. If he does end up here, I think it will be bc Illyana time travels and saves him

i thought magma was mis-colored and supposed to be rhane...seeing as she still has claws

Amara just got her nails did.

and doesn't Dani still have Valkyrie powers? so she may have lost her mutant powers, but she is still superhuman

I can only assume she lost the valkyrie powers a long time ago. She's had no connection to the return of Asgard, and Emma kicked her out of the mansion specifically because she had no powers (or because she's a habitual line stepper).

In Avengers Intiative, she revealed that she lost those powers when Asgard fell. However now that Asgard is back, it would be a great way to power her back up.

I like the new costumes and hope Cannonball leads.
Did they seriously being back Cypher?

a way around the 198 rule...bring back the dead characters! then again...they introduced both graymalkin and cipher....and ink...and his tattoo artist...but decided 4 was too many and made ink a um, er, hmm...i'll just say super human

Despite there only being 198* mutants left on Earth, the writer of Young X-Men introduced several undocumented mutants: Jonas Graymalkin (who was living under Xavier's mansion since the 18th or 19th century), Cipher (who has invisibility & phasing powers, and only Cyclops, Jean, & Blindfold were aware of her existence until recently), and a tattoo artist named Nunez (I don't know how the hell he flew under the radar).

Ink was never intended to be a mutant, though. That was established in Young X-Men #2, when Rockslide said his scanner only detected 5 mutants in the room: Rockslide, Dust, Wolfcub, Blindfold, and Graymalkin (who was hiding in the shadows the whole time). Ink and Pierce-as-Cyclops were both in the room.

*I call "bull" on the number 198. There are probably 300+ mutants on Earth. The 198 didn't include the Morlocks, Marauders, or Acolytes. It didn't include Jonas buried under Xavier's mansion. It didn't include Xavier, who has been repowered since that list was made. It didn't include Ink's tattoo artist. It didn't include Cipher because she's undetectable when she wants to be. It didn't include Quicksilver, who has since been repowered. And I seriously doubt the O.N.E. was allowed to travel the globe and extract mutants every country on Earth. There are a lot of flaws with using such an exact number.
