Is the crossover game like a full title or is it more like DLC? If the value is there, I might end up getting it. Looks like a fun little title, but $15 is usually an iffy price for me.

In this morning’s Nintendo 3DS Direct, they revealed the latest models of the Nintendo 3DS with the New Nintendo 3DS XL (LL in Japan) and New Nintendo 3DS.

The New 3DS has screen size that is 1.2 times larger than the regular 3DS, with new colorful buttons based off the Super Famicom controllers.

Meanwhile, Nintendo have also added a small joystick on the right-side, that is based off the Gamecube’s C-stick, which will come in handy for games like Smash Bros. and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

The ZR and ZL buttons that are on the Circle Pad Pro are also included in the new 3DS series, in addition to newer brightness adjustments, and improved 3D viewing angles.

New Nintendo 3DS will also use Micro-SD cards as well, along with a new feature that will make it easier to transfer media files to and from PCs. It’ll also have an improved browser that’ll make things easier to browse the internet, along with user filters for the younger fans.

The CPU is getting powered up, and downloading software will also be faster than ever, and past software will all still be available to play on the new models.

The price will go for 16,000 yen for the New Nintendo 3DS, 18,800 yen for the New Nintendo 3DS XL, when it gets released on October 11, 2014 in Japan.

Nintendo 3DS To Get Custom Themes For Home Menu. August 29, 2014 . 5:32am

Following a system update in October, the Nintendo 3DS Home menu will be capable of equipping different themes.

The Nintendo 3DS is getting custom themes, Nintendo of America announced today. Note that these are for the regular 3DS and 3DS XL models, and not just the “New” model revisions that were announced for Japan this morning.

Following a system update in October, the Nintendo 3DS Home menu will be capable of equipping different themes that change the menu background, icons, folders, music and sound effects.

Themes will be available for purchase from a “Theme Shop” that will be added to the Home menu. More details will be announced at a future date.

Note: Screenshot from Japanese version of the same feature.

Well, the crossover is a full game by itself, but its a short one. I read that you can beat it in about 30 min. So, it's about the same length as a regular MM game on the NES(besides MM3). But it's a free game that comes with Azura Strike Gunvolt, which is a 16bit sidescroller. Not sure how long the main Gunvolt game lasts, but I think it's longer than the crossover, Mighty Gunvolt.

Oh, and a new 3DS is coming out? Not sure if I'll ever buy it.

Alright, I just DL'd Gunvolt, and couldn't find Might Gunvolt. After you buy it, you have to look in your receipt, and there will be a DL code there. Then, go and enter the code, and DL Might Gunvolt. It's kind of a process, when I thought it was going to just DL both games automatically.

Just a heads up, if you guys were going to buy, and wondering where Might Gunvolt was.

Nintendo Answers Questions About The New Nintendo 3DS. August 29, 2014 . 8:23am

Nintendo have prepared a list of answers for these most frequently asked questions on the systems’ official website.

After Nintendo announced the latest 3DS models with the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL, fans probably had plenty of questions like “can they still play DS games?” and such. Nintendo have prepared a list of answers for these most frequently asked questions on the systems’ official website.

Here are some of the key questions on the page:

Q: What kind of applications are pre-installed to the device?
A: The below applications will be included from the start.

  • Health & Safety Information
  • Nintendo 3DS Camera
  • Nintendo 3DS Sound
  • Mii Maker
  • StreetPass Mii Plaza
  • Nintendo eShop
  • AR Games
  • Face Raiders
  • Activity Log
  • Nintendo Zone
  • Download Play
  • System Settings

Q: Are there any changes to the applications?
A: The internet browser can now play videos. Media files can now be moved between the device and a computer without removing the microSD card. The Home Menu’s background, icons, folders, music and sound effects can now be changed. (This will also apply to Nintendo 3DS/3DS XL later.)

Q: Why will the Internet Browser’s filter function be effective from the start?
A: In order to prevent children from accessing harmful websites, it will be effective from the start.

Q: Since official Nintendo microSD cards are going to be released, are there any other microSD cards that can be used for New Nintendo 3DS/New 3DS XL?
A: The following microSD cards will be compatible:

  • SanDisk Extreme: 16GB (SDSDQX-016G-J35A)

  • SanDisk Extreme: 32GB (SDSDQX-032G-J35A)

[Nintendo also mentions that the above makers may make changes to their microSD cards in the future, which could result in them becoming inoperable, so please keep that in mind.]

Q: What kind of computer operating systems will work for accessing the microSD card via wireless LAN?
A: The confirmed operating systems are Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.

Q: Will you be able to move certain parts from the SD card like software or save data?
A: No, you won’t be able to.

Q: Can you transfer software data from the Nintendo 3DS/3DS XL?
A: Data can be transferred from the Nintendo 3DS/3DS XL to the New Nintendo 3DS/New 3DS XL. (However, data from the New Nintendo 3DS/New 3DS XL cannot be moved to the 3DS/3DS XL.)

Q: What will you need in order to transfer data?
A: Internet connectivity. (Internet connectivity or a way to locally connect to the device.) You’ll also need enough battery or else it won’t transfer.

Since the SD card doesn’t fit the New Nintendo 3DS/New 3DS XL’s microSD slot, you’ll have to use either the wireless connectivity, or manually copy it from a computer.

Q: Is the wireless switch that was on the 3DS/3DS XL no longer available?
A: The physical switch is no longer there, but you can turn the wireless on/off at the Home Menu.

Q: Can the AC adapter for Nintendo 3DS/3DSXL/DSi/DSi XL be used for the New Nintendo 3DS/New 3DS XL?
A: Yes, it can.

Q: Is it compatible to the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector?
A: Yes, it is.

Q: Can it play all Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS games?
A: As far as Nintendo DS/DSi software goes, it won’t be able to play game cartridges that require a specific connections to the cartridge slots, such as the ones that required the GBA cartridge slot on the DS Lite and DS.

Other titles, for example Pokémon Tretta Lab, that requires extra hardware that fit the original 3DS’ shape and size, also won’t be compatible.

The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL will release on October 11, 2014 in Japan.

Ah, a second analog stick! But eh, based on the GC's c-stick? That thing was such a piece of junk, but still, two analog sticks. It looks pretty slick, too, makes me think of the DSi. Man, I may end up getting one. Though I'm confused by that last question, it does or doesn't still play DS games?

Thanks for the heads up.

Ultimate NES Remix Coming to 3DS

The mini-game compilation series NES Remix is making the jump from the Wii U to the 3DS. Nintendo has announced Ultimate NES Remix, the first instalment of the series for the handheld 3DS. It will be available on December 5 for $30, and like the two Wii U games, it will offer new versions of levels from classic NES titles complete with ‘remixed’ additions like crossover characters and increased difficulty. The new game will also include an online leaderboard, so you can compare your skills to other players.
According to Nintendo, Ultimate NES Remix will include levels from 16 different games, although they haven’t said what those 16 games will be. Expect more details soon.

Depending on what Ultimate NES Remix is, I may get it. If it's just a mash up for NES Remix 1 & 2, then I'll pass. I've played the hell of out of those games already. Was hoping for a GB Remix for 3DS.

But what, some New 3DS titles won't play on the old hardware? What the hell, that's a horrible mistake, unless we're just taking about DL titles or something. Restricitng retail titles like that is definitely not a good idea.

Yeah, I'm kinda confused by that answer. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough, though.

Damn, so it looks like the Xenoblade port for the 3DS will be only playable on the New 3DS, so we are getting like full titles that's exclusive to this revision. I am not a fan of this idea.

Really? You can't use the add on stick? That doesn't make sense.

well there's that cross buy /play thing between the 3d's and the WiiU yeah I know we Don't which games these will be, but if Xeno makes it on one of those and the WiiU Needs those for now since third party will be dropping off til Nintendo resolves that problem may be this help the unity program work better too.

The New 3DS has a more powerful CPU than the original 3DS models, apparently. So, it's not about the sticks, it's about that. Some games, such as the Xenoblade port, can't be run on the original models from what I gather. It's like this is a midway between a hardware revision and new hardware.

Its stupid but they have a history of doing that, like with the DSi. Probably figure they can get away with it

Did you post in the wrong thread by chance? This doesn't seem at all related to the new 3DS.

The DSi was somewhat different. It is true that it added the online features, but those were totally absent from the original DS, it just wasn't in the infrastructure. As far as I know, though, full retail titles were never restricted between the DSi and the previous models.

It was supposed to be in the Wii u thread if I didn't put it here. It was before Iwata's operation. and the share holders board's talk to still keep him around.

Oh, I had no idea that it was a more powerful system. Huh, kinda strange. Oh well, I wasn't going to buy that game, but sucks anyways.

If it's just a few games here and there, like the Xenoblade port, I guess it's not a big thing, but I still don't like the idea myself.

I don't know the umber only that it was talked here
I asked if there were similar plans for Squids Odyssey to be a cross-buy game in North America as well, but was informed that Nintendo of America “could not support this operation yet”. I then asked if this meant that The Game Bakers had approached NOA about the promotion.

They replied: “Yes we did ask, we really like this promotion and wished to make it happen for all gamers, but NOA could not support this kind of promotion.

In previous statements, Iwata has mentioned that Nintendo’s future devices could share the same operating system, similar to iOS and Android devices, and perhaps even similar architecture. This, he says, will make it easier to develop games across multiple Nintendo platforms, the way a number of smartphone game developers already do.

Here,

Nintendo Has A New “Business Development Department”. May 13, 2014 . 11:33am
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata touches upon a new Nintendo division—the “Business Development Department,” which the company established in March.

Recently, Nintendo integrated its videogame console and portable divisions into a single group, dubbed the “Integrated Research & Development Division”. In addition to this, the company completed construction of a new R&D Development Center, which Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says will be occupied this June, after E3.
Once Nintendo’s developers move into the new building, they will be able to communicate more closely with one another than before, as departments that previously worked in different buildings will now share the same headquarters.
Additionally, at a financial results Q&A, Iwata touched upon a new Nintendo division—the “Business Development Department,” which the company established in March. This group will be involved in decisions regarding things like character licensing, new markets and so on, and will report directly to Iwata himself.
“We have gathered experts from a variety of different fields for this department,” Iwata shared with analysts and investors. “By working with others in the R&D divisions, these members have already been acting as contacts for a variety of different business partners, and have been making proposals and planting the seeds for discussion.”
“The Business Development Department will play an important role in our company producing tangible outcomes for the topics we have been discussing recently: the active use of our character IP, future approach for the new markets, future of the new business fields, how we are going to change the definition of our future platforms and how we will take advantage of smart devices.”
,

What are you talking about? This has absolutely nothing to do with what's being discussed.

I'm saying this new 3DS might apart of the plan to be apart the cross platform with the Wii U so yeah some New 3DS titles won't play on the old hardware, but might be a part of that idea.

But I might be thinking a head of alot of stuff right now. So don't worry about it .

Ugh... So much BS. The 3DS has only been out a little over three years and already it's being replaced.

It seems that some people are likening this to the Gameboy Color, more so than the DSi. I was always under the impression that the Gameboy was forward compatible with all GBC titles, but apparently this wasn't the case, with some GBC games only playable on GBC hardware. But having said that, there was still software compatiable with both being made for a good while, so this is definitely a midway piece of equipment. Not a true, full successor to the 3DS, but different enough to be it's own thing.
