Official Nintendo 3DS Thread

There are no games that you can say genuinely require 3D. There are games that are exclusive to the "New" 3DS line, but they're exclusive because of processing power, not 3D.

so the "new" 3DS exclusive games will work on the upcoming "new" 2DS XL, cuz it shares the same processing power?

also, does the 3DS/2DS have a lot of good JRPG games?

Are there any that you'd recommend?

And how are save data and games saved on a 3DS/2DS?

is there internal storage or do you need a Micro SD card?

thanks.

So far as I've read the "New" exclusive games will work on the New 2DS.

And the 3DS line is home to a ton of JRPG's. Tons. Between Bravely Default and it's sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles.

Here's some to go off:

Reggie Says Nintendo Will Continue To Support The 3DS Beyond 2018. June 16, 2017 . 9:30am

In a recent interview, Reggie Fils-Aime spoke about how they plan to keep bringing new content and game to the 3DS, as well as how Nintendo doesn’t want the Switch to be seen as a “replacement” for the 3DS.

In a recent interview with IGN at this year’s E3, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime spoke about the company’s plans for the future, specifically for the 3DS. Reggie revealed that Nintendo has plans to continue supporting the handheld, even through 2018 and beyond.

Here are Reggie’s full comments on their plans for the 3DS, including how they focus on innovating the handheld, how important new games are to keeping the device relevant, and how Nintendo doesn’t want the Switch to be seen as a “replacement” for the 3DS:

“The way we continue to make Nintendo 3DS vibrant as a platform is first we continue to innovate from form factor standpoint. So the New 2DS XL is just the latest for us in having form factor innovation. We know colors are a key differentiator, consumers love the variety of different colors. And also the larger screen and the different form factor in the 2DS family, we think is a going to drive and continue to drive the 3DS platform.”

“We’re going to continue to bring new content, and that’s what’s going to keep this device vibrant and keep it going well into 2018 and beyond.”

“We say that it’s a home console that you take with you and play with anyone, anywhere, anytime. It really is meant to deliver that great home console performance, you just happen to be able to undock it and take it with you, which is a key innovation. But look, in the end, what we want is we want the consumer to call it their device, right? Their preferred gaming device that they can play fantastic Zelda, Mario, third-party content, all of their favorite franchises brought to life on the platform. That’s what we want. And we’re greedy and we want Nintendo 3DS right alongside it.”

My 3ds has been a solid investment and I'm glad they've been supporting it for so long. Now give me a new 3ds main mario game please.

I've really regretted selling my 3DS XL to buy the Switch. The 3DS just has such an amazing library of games and it's clear that's not stopping any time soon. Today I'm throwing down a full pre-order on that 2DS XL. I need to play the new Fire Emblem, Metroid and Pokemon on the way. And since the Switch library is going to take awhile to grow it'll be nice having the 3DS library to fall back on.

I’m thinking of getting a Nintendo DS for a 6-year-old. Would you say he’s old enough? Should I just get the 2D? So far he’s really into just iPad and YouTube videos. I wouldn’t say he’s a gamer yet but it looks like it has some good games.

The Nintendo 3DS has been receiving support for a long time and really is a great investment cause there is such a huge catalogue of games and they’re still supporting it. Also, in true Nintendo form there are games for all ages. Being so young he might just need the 2d cause the 3D left on for too long can cause headaches.

samsnee, I think the 2DS XL is a good economical option for a young person. The 2DS also has access to YouTube so they can still get that as well.

Has a great library of games.

Ok thanks. I didn’t think the 3ds would be necessary.

I was thinking of getting the new 2DS as long as the 3D effect isn't required to make certain games "playable".

I think I've only seen one or two games actually use the 3D as a game mechanic, but even then it was never something required to do anything significant, just as a means of finding some hidden secrets.

I bought myself a 2DS. (Blue) Really nifty little system. Mario Kart 7 is a blast, and Mario 3D Land is pretty sweet too.

Just recently got Street Fighter 4 via eBay to add to my collection.

So what are your guys favorite games? Any reccommendations?
