How in the hell is that good?

Still: the good reviews beat the bad reviews anyway. And even if SR has flaws, thats why sequels today improve the first films. At least its good to begin with.
It's good because...... Ebert is an idiot!

Guys, I'm pretty bleeding-heart pinko commie liberal, and not EVERYTHING that comes out of Fox News has a horrid agenda behind it. It's entirely possible homeboy has his head up his ass, but he's not trying to SINK A MOVIE with his review. If he's any sort of movie reviewer, he knows his ONE review on FOX NEWS isn't going to really move mountains. So I'd think he'd just resign himself to spitting his opinion out there, and voila.

The conspiracy sometimes gets a little TOO OVERREACHING.

i respect ebert.

he's usually spot on.

if ebert gave this 3 stars or more, you'd all be licking his nuts. "oh, he's always been a critic i trust!"

don't give me this crap.

don't give me this crap.

I respect Ebert, because he's a great writer and he fleshes out his opinions well. Usually spot on is reaching, I've read quite a few of his books. He's always been pretty spotty. He's super-respected by the average moviegoer because he was on TV. that's it. He would get in fights with his skinny friend and be mean and that's why he got popular. His film reviews are almost secondary to the fact he's become a brand name.

But a lot of people here, who are taking time to rationalize every nitpick in a review to discount it, yes, would be administering Eberts' chemo themselves if the review was good.

But then again--a lot of people never agree with the guy, so I don't see why Spidey here (who's typically more on your side of this Superman harangue) saying he thinks Ebert is an idiot is some sort of sign of fanboyish denial. Up until now, Spidey hasn't exactly been enthusiastic towards the film. It's only until Ebert gave it a mediocre review that Spidey now is eager to see it.

Which I don't think you had considered before you did your little pre-written bit there :)

i made my prediction several pages ago with 10 reviews when it had a 90% rating.
Yes. And now there are only 14 reviews, which means adding single reviews can swing the percentage a lot either way. Considering that tentpole movies usually average at least 180 reviews, trying to declare victory on a percentage at 14 reviews is premature to say the least.

I do listen for his opinion, but I never, EVER forget this is the same guy who wrote Return to Valley of The Doll's. Sometimes we agree on Good films, sometimes I think he's the Hellen Keller of film critics.

But he's just another critic in the long run. Personally, my mind will be made up on wednesday at 5:45pm.

Ok, I have two questions for anyone who has already seen SR. As a matter of fact, it might be cool for any curious fans to use this thread to ask questions to those who have been lucky enough to have seen the film or knows someone who has seen the film to answer for them.

Ok, my two questions are:

Is John Williams credited all in the opening title sequence like he is in Superman II, where it says, "Music by Ken Thorne"..."From original material composed by John Williams"?

Also, what exactly is the end flyby shot like when he flys over the earth and smiles at the camera? Is it almost exactly like the shot at the end of the Reeve movies? Is the main theme music going full blast at this point? Does the camera capture him at this moment at the same angle and distance as it did Reeve in the originals? Thanks

You pretty much wrote what I was going to.

I don't like to respond to fools, but I'll make an exception.

Before you write a crude and foul comment like that Riddler you should follow my post trail. I'm pretty damn sure that I am way more down on Superman Returns than you!

I don't usually say this but I think that you should apoligize for your comments.

They were foolish and out of line and completely WRONG!

And Fatboy I'm still not eager to view SR.:o

you spelled s**ty right and that's all that counts. The cusswords are the only important ones. Gets the flavor in there :)

Seriously though, the knee jerking popping off in here is enough to make Jet Li Jealous.

You're kinda a bastard aren't ya?

At this point, I don't see why anyone is concerned with reviews. I mean, sure they are nice to read and if they have some spoilers all the better. But, haven't you already made up your mind if you are going to see the movie or not?

I'm not really reading reviews anymore, though I have to admit I was hoping Ebert would give it a higher rating for some of the reasons Fatboy pointed out. He is respected by the common man, and a lot of people trust his judgement. It still doesn't matter to me what rating he gave. I'm going to see the movie, so he could have said it sucked and I'd still be seeing the movie this Thursday.

yeah, but I was being cool to you there. I wasn't trying to further clown you for spelling or whatever. Just making with innocuous ha-ha's.

It was hard to pick up on that.

My bad. I thought it was recognized that I use profanities quite liberally here on the board, so I figured I'd poke fun at that. As long as I can understand what you're trying to say, I don't really care how it's spelled.

Although people....using.....ellipses....... for every.........kind........of punctuation...........REALLY kills me.........

Also people who

Spelling doesn't bother me, really.

:D Wednesday at 3:30 I will finally get to see SR in all its glory! The reviews are nice, but I have noticed that the people who given negetive reviews of the film are very nitpicky. It's as if they had an axe to grind against the film. The average audience won't care what they think! They'll be blown away by this movie! Like Routh said on Larry King, I worry about people who don't like Superman. I mean come on He really is better than ALL the other Superheroes combine! :o Who the hell needs Spider-Man when Superman is around. The movie will do fine!

My Starship Cap'n:) I agree, there does seem to be a lot of nitpicking. I just re-read my post and I said Thursday...for shame. I'll be there Tuesday at 10pm. Can't wait...might be better than warp nine:up:

So Ebert and Roper reviewed it and Ebert didn't like it but Roper did, or is this Ebert's seperate review? Either way, I would assume Roper likes it and Ebert doesn't. Again, it's my own review that counts for me.

Ebert saying it wasn't campy enough and didn't live up to the original does make the acid in my stomach churn though. I watched the original the other day and I couldn't believe how bad it was in some instances.

*He's Superman after 12 Years in the FOS with no explantion of anything.
*The flying poem scene with Lois in her nightgown.
*Margot Kidder's face.
*Otis and his music.

and so on...and so forth.

:D Good to talk to you again Huntress! At least, you are more level headed than most on here. I really am obsessing a bit over this film.:O But I have high hopes that our faith is not in vain! Have a good time Tuesday at 10, and welcome Superman back for me! After Wednesday, It'll be fun to share stories about our viewing experience! One more thing,:O where will I ever meet a girl like you?:D

Besides, Donner gave his blessing.....:D

yep, I can understand where Ebert review came from, this movie is too much like the original in more ways than one that it attracts extra scrutiny,

also what is up with the rumor of bad reviews by some critics not go up unti opening day:o

You are always the same lamer :o

I have seen the movie but in all honesty I did not pay that much attention. :)
I was to excited about just being in the theater to notice such things.

I really don't know the answer to the first one.

But to the second, I don't think it's exactly like the last shot of the Superman Movie because I don't remember Reeve flying on his back like that. I could be wrong though. I haven't seen Superman TM in quite a while.
