ok but something else is bothering me, the scene at the beginning where kal-el returns to the farm, he crashes in a ship, how does the average viewing audience view this, wont they say he whats going on here? didnt he already crash land in the first movie?

That one you will have to wait for. They explain it well enough in the first few secs or minutes of the movie if you will. They may be my only problem with the film. I thought they would delve a little deeper into it. But they had to make some cuts somewhere. I look forward to seeing that more in detail on the DVD. But in no way did it lessen my movie going experience.

Superman's departure and his arrival are weak points of the plot.

How did he leave? Did he use his babypod? How did he get back? The ship looks like a basic chunk of Krypton.

he grew a new pod using crystals in the FOS.

it's a shame they didn't keep the return to krypton sequence in the movie. oh well.

Des Moines Register Review of "Superman Returns" sorry if this has been posted

" That’s in spite of an uninspired opening 45 minutes that mimics Richard Donner’s 1978 original and a bloated running time of 2 1/2 hours that will be a test for Superman’s youngest fans. The recycled words of Marlon Brando, the old school titles and the chest-thumping John Williams score do go a long way, however, to explain Singer’s desire to clone Christopher Reeve with his choice of Iowan Brandon Routh in the lead role. (More on him in a bit.) "

"This is not to say that “Superman Returns” is all serious by any means. Spacey brings fabulous camp to Luthor, the renaissance man who loves all the finer things in life … and just happens to be a megalomaniacal madman. (Question: Why does a guy as brilliant as Luthor keep surrounding himself with a band of bumbling idiots?) "

for box:
4 stars
“Superman Returns”
Rating: PG-13 for action violence
Director: Bryan Singer
Stars: Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth, Kevin Spacey, James Marsden, Parker Posey.
Length: 2 hours, 34 minutes

That has a simple answer: he wants to be the smartest person in his group can't have a group of geniuses around out thinking lex

awesome 4 stars!

why do people keep saying that Routh's imitating Reeve? i mean, they're both playing the same character, in the same movie universe, how would they not look/act similar?

Because they all seem to forget that the character didnt originate with Reeve but that's the way they're treated it.

I haven't read the novelization.

I began to read but stopped, since many of the clips I've seen are word for word what happens in the novel along with the characters lines.

press screenings, military screenings, company screenings...

and some just havent seen it but conveniently voted 1.

Select critics usually see movies in advance, as for the rest of us:

Press screenings, sneak previews, test screenings. For instance I saw it at a screening to decide the rating for my country.
