So I just got back and generally loved it. I mean, I think the first one works better as a stand-alone film, but as a piece of the greater Marvel universe, this was a very worthwhile, well-made, and entertaining-as-hell installment, imo. I gave it an 8/10 on the poll, but more objectively, I'd probably say it was closer to a 7-7.5/10.

I definitely agree with those that say the S.H.I.E.L.D. stuff assumed more knowledge from the audience than it should have. That could have been handled a little a better. As a result though, I think general audiences will appreciate this one much more in retrospect, after S.H.I.E.L.D.'s full glory is revealed in Avengers.

Also, I love Agent Coulson. He should get more love.

I had to roll my eyes when
I overheard some guys at the Thor hammer scene saying whats so important about a shoebox with a handle

I don't think it was as bad as the time that my brother's gf thought that the Freddy glove he showed her was Wolverine's adamantium claws.
:doh::hehe:

The audience is stupid. And to assume anything else is giving them way too much credit.

LOL! Reminds me of TF1

"No man! Freddie Krugger got 4 blade man. That's only three. That's Wolverine! RRRAAOOOWWFFF!"

Saw it again today..took my 12 year old cousin. Still like it :im:

I'm going to see it again before the week is out. And I'm going to be babysitting my nephew while my sister and brother-in-law see it next weekend.

My nephew is 2, so he's obviously too young to see the movie, but we were watching the trailer on my phone earlier tonight and kept pointing at it and saying "OOOOOOHH!!!" So, future IM fan right there. :im:

Good work,I love it when kids dig Ironman, they are on the right track.

I love seeing future shellhead fans in the making :im:

Just saw a second time today, definently worth seeing several times, it was as fun the second time as the first time and the audience was much into as the time I went on Friday.

Well, he refuses to go anywhere without his Spiderman sneakers that light up, he has a Batman tricycle, and he has Iron Man crayons that he got at his cousin's birthday party last year (his cousins love the new IM cartoon), so while they may not be as cool as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or Sesame Street to him yet, he's certainly on the right path.

My midnight showing...there were people wearing masks, girls with apparent 'arc reactors' under their shirts (givin the guys an excuse to stare at their chests, haha) and t-shirts...oh and one 'hefty' guy to kill the time before the movie, was doing cartwheels to our applause.

Enjoyed it, doesn't surpass the first, has its flaws, but it was far from horrible. I'm just going to list what I didn't like and leave it at that:

Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Don Cheadle all came weak IMHO

I'm not a tough critic either, but I'll be honest, I thought their acting was weak, all 3 of them. I also thought there were a couple of weak scenes in the middle of the film as well (though that could change with repeated viewings). None of that though took away from my overall enjoyement of the film, RDJ nailed Tony Stark once again, proving he's better than any animated/comic book version of the character, and Gwyneth Paltrow also did fine job once again as Pepper. Dissapointed in Sam and Don though and they could've casted Black Widow better, but other than that, everyone else did fine.

Enough action, nice story, no scenes came off as filler, decent. Not sure if I'd put it in my top 10 superhero films though, I do know so far its Marvel Studio's weakest film of the 3 (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Iron Man 2), which I enjoyed in that order. Guess you can say they're progressively getting weaker in a sense, but still good movies.

lets see how they do with Thor, Cap and Avengers.

I actually think Thor will be better than Avengers and definitely better than Cap.

I'm on record saying Cap will be an overall disappointment. I have heard too many bad things about the story and script and and I don't trust Joe Johnston directing. Plus when it comes to bo office, Cap will struggle overseas IMO.

The worst thing about Iron Man 2? THE TRAILERS!
OMG! They basically told the entire story and had ALL the money shots!

Compare to Inception where we have quick flashes, water and Manhattan folding over

Saw this over the weekend, it was a solid film but not as good as the first. I'd say an 8/10 whereas the first is a 9/10. Excellent acting from all and the visuals were great. The problem I had with the film was the lack of action, and weak fight with Whiplash. I was expecting the last fight with Whiplash to be a great deal longer than what it was.

Seems like every1 in this movie was talkin at the same time in the first hour. They seem to be giving Downey a bit to much freedom in improvising his lines. Movie lacked really any emotion, there was only a few good scenes but the movie was a major letdown compared to the first.

Does anyone remember what Stark was saying while he was leaving the hearing at the Senate? I thought it was gold but I don't remember it. :csad:

I believe he said, "My pact is with the people and I will serve this great nation at the pleasure of myself. Because if there's one thing I've shown it's that you can always count on me to pleasure myself. "

I tend to agree about the IM2 trailers. Who's doing the marketing? If it's Paramount then they sort of are not doing the best job. I'll be glad when their deal with Marvel is done in 2 years but it likely also means they will mismanage the Thor, Cap & Avengers marketing as well.:csad:

Can't say what about Inception since I have about as much interest in it as a Twilight movie...absolute zero.

You guys are overly whining, virtually none of the 3 big fights were in the trailers.

Think about this. The final armor for Whiplash was a pretty well kept secret until the movie's release. No toy images. People were whining over a crappy video game concept image or something that was nowhere close to what was in the final cut of the movie.

We only saw bits and pieces of the race track fight and the mark IV/mark II fight. None of the double repulsor blast bits or the big weapon displays in the big fights.

Well they also showed the clip of the monaco fight that basically showed almost all of the armored part of that fight. That was a mistake, IMO. The film would have had the same BO weekend regardless I think. They didn't need to release that.

I can't say this enough, really dissapointed in Sam and Don the most, those 2 should have impressed me, at least a little, which they did not. Don't care at all for Sam's Nick Fury nor Don's Rhodey, they were weak, and Scarlett just does not come off to me as the type of girl to beable to pull off what she did in the movie. The way her character presented herself, at least, her delivery, etc. Just not strong enough

don't know how else to put it

Man, I am so glad that I avoided the online clips like the plague.

In fact, the only Iron Man 2 trailer I bothered to watch was the teaser that came out back in December 2009. I was afraid that watching every trailer would eventually spoil something for me.

Lucky for me, I saw the movie without having anything big spoiled, which is a part of why I enjoyed it so much.

same, I saw 2 different trailers at the movies and that was it, avoided anything that leaked online.

I was gonna say the same thing. The trailers were OK, but they went overboard by releasing most of the Monaco fight.

Ok i've watched it 3x now. And it's weird.

The first time I watched it, I thought it was good, but too much flaws with the character development and the pacing and focus. I gave it 7/10

The 2nd time, it got worse for me, every character got more annoying to me and the 2nd act became even duller. Still entertaining though. I gave it 6.5/10

The 3rd time around, I found myself enjoying everything about the movie more. But the 2nd act was still mishandled though. This movie is really rewatchable. I now give it 8/10

After the 1st viewing, I thought I won't get a blu-ray for this like I did for Iron Man. But now I can't wait to have one!

Jon really needs to make his storytelling more sophisticated next time around, even the best Bond films are the ones which have smooth storytelling (From Russia With Love, Casino Royale), but the swagger and the confidence the Iron Man films need to stand apart from the rest, Jon got that part down!

Saw it again this weekend. Grew a little on me, after I got over my initial disappointment. A few further observations:

- One thing I have to give to Favreau is he knows how to stage a fight scene with a bunch of robots and guys in hi-tech armors. I always knew who was fighting who and doing what. Further evidence that Michael Bay isn´t even the great action orchestrators his fans claim he is - not to mention his glaring storytelling shortcomings.

- It doesn´t go as wrong as Spider-Man 3, but like that movie, I can pinpoint the exact moment where I feel the movie started to lose its groove - in that case, it was Peter in the mirror giving himself that emo-ish hair over his eyes, here it´s Nick Fury showing up to talk to Tony, it´s where I begun to think, "you know, this storyline is already crowded as it is".

- Apparently, the movie cost 180m, about the same as TDK. It kinda felt that way when I watched it, but the success of the first completely justified a 200m budget. Marvel´s reputation of being "cheap" is beginning to work against it.

I give IM2 a 7/10 which is less than the first movie. I thought the villian performances were great. The climax had great action scenes like Black Widow's and War Machine's. The weakest part was the drunken Tony Stark. I thought it would've been better if they played it straight instead of for laughs. I didn't see a genuine reason for Rhodes to suit up and fight Starks. And Starks pissing himself and dancing was just stupid.
