I think it might make 300 befor the weekend but I think it will most likley make 300 by Saturday or Sunday.

Wednesdays #'s are in $ 1.55 million. Updates below. Mojo has POTC 3 opening at 4,362 theaters. Spider-Man 3 opened at 4,324. So POTC 3 opening at 38 more theaters than Spider-Man 3. POTC 2 opened at 4,133 theaters. All I know is they have 14 showings a day at the local multiplex, and all showings thru Monday are sold out. Spider-Man 3 had 11 showings a day opening weekend. I think the pirates may be taking over again.
I don't think POTC3 will beat Spidey3. Not only is the Spidey franchise based off of such amazing material that has been around for 40+ years but the franchise is also a billion dollar franchise all togeather. That is something we should all be happy about. I mean Spidey3 has made as much money as two superhero films put togeather (Batman Begins and Superman Returns) and that is just incredible. 6 years ago when Spidey1 first came out in theatres, us fans loved the film and 6 years later we still do so ever since then not only has the Spidey films remained so popular but they have also had a big impact on films. and 2 years later Spidey2 comes out and was absoloutley amazing in every sense of the word. 3 years later Spidey3 comes out and it's amazing in every sense of the word as well. so for just a Pirate franchise to come out and try to top Spideys Box Office numbers is not right. I don't care for the POTC films and I personally don't think they are going to defeat this billion dollar franchise. the Spidey films are very succesful films and I think the POTC films aren't nearly as good as the Spidey films and IMO, I think the Spidey franchise going to remain a much more succesful and much more liked franchise than those stupid POTC films. I also understand that POTC3 is a little higher in money than Spidey3 but my opinion is that the Pirate films aren't nearly as good as the Spidey franchise. thats just my opinion though.

Dude, Pirates movies are mega-movies at the box office. It can still beat SM3's opening weekend. It's now in more theaters, the only thing that can stop it is Shrek 3, and I don't even think Shrek 3 is going to be able to stop Pirates from beating SM3's weekend record. Not that it matters to me, I guess we'll soon see.

Yeah man; i live in the middle of freaking NOWHERE, and our local theater sold out all five showings of Pirates this evening....

Spidey 3 didnt quite manage that.

Pirates takes it's title back this weekend with a brutal uppercut!

The problem with AWE beating Spidy's record is the runtime(3 hrs) and Shrek 3.

It should be interesting to see what unfolds this weekend.

You guys are all stupid, I'm really sorry to say.

MARK MY WORDS: Pirates will NOT take back Spider-Man's opening weekend record. That record is set until the next Spider-Man movie comes out.

I'm actually looking forward to pirates 3 i was so pissed of about the second one the first one was great hopefull pirates 3 is better than 2. Anyway it sucks thay spidey's record might not stand but you know that disney was pissed when hey lost thier record. it only stood for a year and this one for 2 goddamn wks. Sparrow defeats Superman and Spidey 2 years in a row. Sparrow must be the greatest hero ever (yeah right). However going by the boxoffice numbers Sparrow must be the greatest.

I still think Spidey's weekend is safe, but I also think POTC 3 will get close to it. 145 million 3 day sounds about right, with another 15-22 million for tonight and a 30 million Monday...this thing does have a shot at 200 million by Tuesday, or possibly Monday...it will all depend on how everything plays out.

It's gonna be close as Pirates is opening in more theatres than Spidey with the same runtime. However Pirates is also gonna have holdovers from Shrek and Spidey 3 to deal with and other big films are coming as well.

Oh yeah, roll your eyes real well. Sequels are what tend to break records. Unless there's a Shrek 4 being planned, or a Pirates 4 being planned, I don't think any other movie but Spider-Man 4 will have a chance at breaking it.

Its going to be real close, no doubt about that.

Running-time, reviews, other big movies in theaters...none of this is going to matter. Pirates is gonna be mega-huge this weekend, or at least I think it is, I stand at 164-169M in 3 days in my prediction. Of course, I've been wrong before.

I wish, but I doubt that, I'm thinking it's set until this weekend.

You're always wrong. You predicted $114M-$125M for opening weekend, you were wrong. You predicted SM3 will struggle to get to $300M, wrong again.

Pirates will not make more than $151M from Friday to Sunday.

FINAL WEEKEND TRACKING: 'Pirates' set for $146M-$154M over 4 1/2 days; 'Shrek' to add $87-$92M

by Steve Mason

My prediction for the 3-day is $123M-$126M and a Monday take of $13M-$16M.That would give Pirates a 4-day gross in the $136M-$142M range and a 4 1/2 day haul of $146M-$154M.

Shrek the Third should up in its 2nd weekend than Spider-Man 3 did. Adding 50 or so locations, I anticipate that Shrek will deliver $87M-$92M over the 4-day weekend.

Meanwhile, Spidey will pick up another $17-$20M over the holiday.

Remember these are predictions, not projections. I still disagree with that Piates #, but we shall see.

The 3 day record will remain with Spiderman 3.I think that POTC3 is going to take the 4 day record but the 3 day record stays with SPiderman

We'll have to disagree here. I think those who wanted to see Spider-Man 3 have seen it. Shrek the 3rd is doing well, but the pirates rule this weekend. 56 showings are sold out at the multiplex here this 4 day weekend, and tickets are allready being bought for Tuesday thru Friday. 11,200 tickets sold here, and every theater in the area is sold out for the 4 day weekend. There's not a pirates ticket to be had within a 100 mile raidus. So I'll have to respectfully disagree. This weekend is going to be a monster. This would not be 1st time I'm wroung, and if I am, oh well. It's an opinion, but I don't think so.

I'd laugh if Harry Potter ended up with the best boxoffice this summer.

There would be slit wrists in this thread :(

Nice thought, but not going to happen. POTC 3 rules this year, then Spider-Man 3, then it will be between Shrek 3, and Harry Potter for 3rd and 4th.

I might consider it. I considered it when the movie was made in the first place. (Obviously that is not true I wouldn't kill my self over this.) I did however lose a lot of respect for the worlds general population when the masses made it successful.

The theater where I'm seeing Pirates has 17 showings tonight through 3am, and another 37 showings tomorrow. And we're not even to Saturday yet. :wow:

(I'm going at 5:30. :woot: )

That's going to be the key. If they add in all the early showings, the record goes down. If they don't, it will be close, and I still say it goes down.

There will likely be controversy about tonight’s Pirates business. The 8pm shows shouldn’t count in the 4-day Memorial Day weekend gross, but screenings after midnight should be rolled into the 4-day. The biggest handicap for the third in this franchise is its 2 hour 47 minute running time. Exhibitors with a single print will likely show the film at 8pm and 11:30pm tonight, but locations with multiple prints will be able to offer more screenings. My predictions is that AWE will be able to bank $10-$12M in pre-midnight business.
