Yeah, But I have a feeling PIrates will make more money in the longe run unless its drops are just as steep as Spidey (which is not unfathomable).

I'd add that it was pretty clear after second weekend this wasn't going to clear $350 million. Now on fourth weekend clearking $320 million is the question. I think it will clear $310 million but after that? I don't know...

Still it crosses $300 million this weekend and holds the opening weekend record. Sony's happy. There will be a fourth and hopefully it made enough for Soney to pay for Sam, Tobey and Kirsten to come back for one more.

I don't think 320 is in question at all. I think it can clear 320. So far the number are right on with what I was estimating so I am sticking with my 330- 345

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End will be the number one movie in the box office of the year, but Spider-man 3 will keep all of the records it has set thus far.

1.) Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End 380 Million
2.) Spider-man 3 340 Million
3.) Harry Potter 330 Million
4.) Transformers 240 Million
5.) Shrek the Third 220 Million

Shrek will make it in to the 300's at the very least no doubt about it. Shrek will be in the top 3

Although Shrek and POTC came out, kids still love Spider-Man most! I just got back from Walmart and let me just say the experience was - awesome!!!!

This is off topic, but I just got back from Walmart and everywhere I went small boys were talking about - not Shrek- not Pirates... yep, that's right our favorite web slinger himself- Spider-Man!!!!

In the toy section, that is still the biggest buzz- I didn't see one kid or parent looking at any of the Pirate or Shrek toys. Lol.

And if this one kid's reaction to Venom or black suit Spider-Man (depending on knowledge of the characters) definitely loved the darkness, he pointed an action figure out to his mother and went, "mom- look- it's evil Spider-Man!" I'm figuring they all fell in love with one of my favorite aspects of the Spidey mythos as well, the black suit saga with Venom. :)

Let's just say as a Spider-Man fan, almost a month later to see this reception still really made my day.

SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE: 'Pirates' softer-than-expected!; P3 Friday only #10 all-time single day gross; 3-day of $105.5M, far behind 'SM3' and 'Shrek 3'; 'AWE' still headed for 4-day of $127.5M and 4 1/2-day of $144.5M

SATURDAY AM: “Aaaaaaaargh!” That’s probably what Disney execs are saying this morning. One of the three major May sequels was bound to disappoint, and it appears that it’ll be Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

I made a round of calls to studio execs this morning, and my 3-day and 4-day estimates are unchanged (scroll down to read them in my Friday PM update). The consensus is that Pirates: At World's End will have a 3-day of approximately $105.5M (No. 7 all-time), a 4-day Memorial Day weekend of $127.5M (#1 all-time) and a 5-day of $144.5M. Shrek the Third will score an estimated $55M for the 3-day and a likely $70M for the 4-day, while Spider-Man 3 should grab $15.5M and $19M respectively.

$ 19 for Spider-Man 3 ? Not bad at all. $ 15.5 for 3 days would be about a 50 % drop. Once again, not bad. Would give it around 308 domestic.

I'm not pesimistic, just a little nervous, I don't want Sony to put out "GARFIELD 3: MORE ORANGE *****" instead of SM4. Okay, maybe I'm a little pesimistic.

But what if I really want to see "GARFIELD 3: MORE ORANGE *****"? I guess you never though about that one, huh.

Whatever happens, I think it's safe to say that Spider-man 3 was a success at the box office.

I've never seen an orange *****. :wow:

So we're now at 760 WW?

Do you think we'll surpass SM1's numbers?

That would be the best title ever! More Orange *****, lol.

I thought Pirates was gonna do better, but I can't say I am disappointed by their gross (since the movie was disappointing). Hope that estimate is accurate.

Nobody can touch Spidey. NOBODY!!!

Yeah man Spider-Man has become the greatest superhero of all time. He bested Superman long ago.

He has been my favorite superhero (and literary character) since the age of 5, and my love for Spidey shall only continue to grow! Glad to see the world join in with me.

Wow, I wasn't expecting Pirates to gross that much less than Spidey on its first day. In fact, I was expecting Pirates to beat it.

Not that I mind, because I can't stand Pirates, but wow. I think that word of mouth is going to hurt this movie even more, because I've heard nothing but really bad things about this movie. I'm shocked.

Pirates Weekend flops HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

106 millions :whatever:

EXCLUSIVE EARLY ESTIMATES: 'Pirates' disappoints! 'AWE' w/$40M Friday; $105.5M 3-day; $127.5M 4-day; Estimated 4 1/2-day take of $144.5M

FRIDAY PM: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (Buena Vista) is a great, big, monstrous hit, but fanboys may be a little let down by its Friday take of an estimated $40M. This is a terrific number, but it may not even rate as one of the all-time top 10 single day grosses, lagging far behind the May 4 opening day of Spider-Man 3 (Sony), last summer’s Pirates 2 opening day and SM3’s May 5 opening Saturday.

Once again, I called it, and people said I was stupid. IN YOUR FACE!! SM's opening record will stand for years to come baby!

Pirates 2 sucked, therefore people weren't that excited for 3. I've been saying this.

I'll be so happy when(not if) Spider-Man hits $900M WW and Shrek and Pirates will be lagging behind.

I stand by my 164-169M OW/3-Day, those numbers for Pirates 3 can't be that low, damn. If it only made 105M in 3 days, what the hell did it make on Saturday?

Fantastic Four 2 may beat those numbers.

Dammit, WTF visionary? Open your freakin eyes! Spider-Man is flying past $300M, Pirates does NOT have a chance at Spider-Man's opening record, Shrek doesn't have the legs of it's predecessors!

Accept it and stop doubting your favorite super hero!

I love Spiderman but I am a batman fan through and through I wish he would out gross Spidey but it won't happen. All though if you count inflation Batman 1989 did out gross this movie and even though it wasn't the best Batman it still makes me happy.

Batman is a great character. My favorite DC superhero, and probably #4 on my top 5 (behind the Silver Surfer and Captain America). No shame in liking Bats more than Spidey.

I am just happy to see my favorite hero getting the worldwide love he deserves.

I wouldn't put too much stock in Mason's 3 day total. He's usually great at predicting opening day's but for some reason is off when he tries to figure out the internal multiplier for the weekend. I'm not saying he won't be close, but I think it will do a bit better than an X3ish 105 million.

On a spidey note, I'm glad it will be at around 308-310ish by Monday...that should shut up all the naysayers who said it would only get like 310 million. Hopefully it will have enough steam to get to 330 million.

Yeah, but 105M opening weekend, I mean damn, that can't be right.

And I'm extremely happy for SM3's success. :o

Yeah, I want SM3 to come out on top and looks like it. But, that number for POTC3 seems more than HORRIBLE! I mean, seriously!
