You can watch the transformers press conference for yourself if you dont believe me.
Im guessing you don't know much about rendering. There are these things called render farms, and you can bet that dreamworks has a massive one. What these do is render different frames out on different machines. As they finish you can take all of those frames and add them together to get your scene. So you're not sitting there for 38 hrs and just getting that 1 frame, in those 38 hrs all the other machines are rendering out other frames as well. And i didnt say every scene was like that, just a few scenes were that insane to render. Watch the press conference if you want, they talk about it. I'm a visual effects and motion graphics major (which may help you understand why i am drooling over the cgi in this movie) so if you have any questions that have to do with visual effects, i may be able to answer them.
I agree with most of what you said except I don't think TDK will surprise anyone except the people who expect 300M I don't think very many people are predicting low numbers. Anywhere from 200- 275 wouldn't really be a surprise. I haven't seen any numbers for it bellow 200M at all so no surprises there.Hey guys. This is my first post but I've checked this site daily for the last 4 years. It's been a pleasure reading all of these posts, especially Doc Ock, Visionary, kal El, etc. You guys have been very fun reads.
Anyway. I was thinking about it and I don't think the opening weekend record spidey 3 holds will be broken anytime soon. Think about it. What is coming out within the next year or so that psoes a threat to Spidey. TDK will most likely be an excellent movie with strong numbers, but it doesn't make the same dollars as your friendly neighborhood, probably because the films are darker and not as suitable for children.
Transformers is going to surprise peope IMO, but 300 million IS a rare occurance and I'm thinking somewhere in the 250 range is more probable.
One question. I'm not sure how the IMAX numbers fall into this equation. Will it be added later in the total or has it been already.
Either way, when the smoke clears, Spider-Man 3 will end up on top for 2007. So congrats!
Wow, Spidey took a hit. 126k for Wednesday. That's a 26% drop on a weekday, almost unheard of. Kinda makes me wonder if box office is reporting that number correctly or not.
Thats not really that shocking at this point.

and He should be. He made perfect Spidey Films and I think Spidey4 will do an amazing job as well as long as Sam is directing and I think He will.Spidey has done amazing numbers. Sam is proud.
ILM has their own render farm, and I believe the only entity that has more computer power then they do is the CIA if I am correct. But, yes, they are rendered on reder farms. Large Render farms at ILM. I am setting a one up at my shop myself. Not a big one, but enough to do what I am doing.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNHezf1B5_g
