I honestly feel Jackson should direct the film. Perhaps it's just me, but I can't see anyone really doing Middle Earth as great as he did it, you know? It just seems completely foreign to me because he did it just like I imagined and anyone else who attempts it won't do it well enough for me.

In my opinion, I feel anyone who says LOTR is boring has attention span issues and don't care for films that tell a great story. If these films didn't do what they were supposed to do New Line wouldn't have approved of three sequels.

@Mr. Credible- Miramax originally wanted LOTR to be limited to one film and have it be told in a one hour forty minutes time frame. Doing this would've neglected key elements of certain characters, epic events, and other concepts that made the novels great and the current films amazing.

If Miramax did what you propse you wouldn't have Helms Deep, Paths of the Dead, Minas Tirith, and so forth. I am very glad they did it with three films and created a magical story that is both critically acclaimed and will be remember as some of the greatest films in cinema history.

I was thinking Kirhsner directed The Empire Strikes back and Lucas produced so why can't The Hobbit be as good with a director and PJ producing.

Man, Kershner should of done the Star Wars prequels.

I hope Del Toro does It and not Rami.As a comic book fan I personally felt
Bryan Singer did better with X-Men than he did with Spider-Man.But this Is like when George Lucas brought In others on The empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi so Jackson will still have a lot to say In how the Hobbit turns out.Another thing some are forgetting Is remember how things from the Two Towers were put In The Return of the King?Well It's possible the first film could end with the death of Smaug, and the battle of five armies and Bilbo's return to the shire could be featured In the second film.

Raimi's next movie is "Drag Me to Hell"...

...so that's less of a chance for him doing the Hobbit. anyway, after watching Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy 2 teaser, i'm convinced Guillermo Del Toro's the right man for the job. he even said himself that he doesn't have anything planned after Hellboy 2.

DelToro would be awesome.I almost would rather see him direct The Hobbit than Peter Jackson himself.

Raimi's next film is 'Drag Me To Hell,' but the Variety article also says that he's expected to helm 'The Hobbit' in 2009.

They are only saying that because New Line threw his name out there to force Peter Jackson to drop his lawsuit.

I wouldn't want anyone else but PJ doing the Hobbit either. He did the LOTR trilogy beautifully. It's a shame New Line is feuding with him at the moment.

PJ is producing the films and i am sure will be involved in story development and casting so i figure Raimi and PJ together part of the 2 biggest Modern franchises would work real good together.
But Tim Burton and Alfonso Couron are good choices. Terry Guilliam and Gore Verbinski would be my next 2 choices.

I agree with you, if anyone other than Jackson takes the director chair it will be automatically noticeable that the style has changed. Although, I will give whomever is chosen a chance, as long as they are up to the task to make a good film.

You and me both.

Agreed PJ and Newline made 3 movies with some of the best moments in resent movie history.
Which if done right can include The Battle Of 5 Armies, Bard and The Death Of Smaug and Riddle In The Dark.
So many more great moments can be done by these prequel movies. Cross fingers it has the same look atleast.

Please No!!!!!!!!!! As much as i liked X-Men 3 it was much more less a film then the first 2 and i don't want middle earth ruined there are better directors out there.
One name i thaught of even if he's doing Narnia but Andrew Adamson would be good i think.

Well, Adamson won't be directing the third or fourth film of the Narnia series and could possibly do a good job with The Hobbit, but I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of people who wouldn't like that idea.

And as much as I've enjoyed Ratner's work for the fun factor, I'd have to say heck no to him directing The Hobbit. And I mean, like no freakin' way...keep him away from The Hobbit.

Gore Verbinski would be good but people seem to not like that idea. I liked the Pirates movies but will admit they are no Rings but Gore is my top 3 current directors next too.

Adamson.
Nolan.
Verbinski.

People want Burton but he is a bit too dark and The Hobbit is not that dark yet.
Save him for Harry Potter 7.
Del Toro and Cauron maybe but think they wouldn't wanna do 2 films back to back.
Mike Newell was brilliant with HP4.

Yesterday afternoon Entertainment Weekly's Missy Schwartz posted a chat with director Guillermo del Toro about the possibility of his directing the two Hobbit movies for producer Peter Jackson. Del Toro said he's "heard some rumblings but nothing official. I don't want to think about it because it's such an eventuality."

And may it go no further than that. Del Toro is way, way above Jackson's class -- his work has steadily matured, becoming cleaner, richer and more confident, with each new film. Jackson hasn't advanced a single aesthetic notch since Braindead. He's about two things and two things only -- "look at what I can do!" and "wheeee!" He'd only cramp Del Toro's vision and style.

The Hobbit "is the only Tolkien book I read," Del Toro said. "I tried my best to read Lord of the Rings, the trilogy. I could not. I could not. They were very dense. And then one day, I bought The Hobbit. I read it and I loved it. So it would be a privilege. But listen, I wish I knew. At this stage, after Hellboy II, I'm unemployed!

"I met Peter and Fran [Walsh, Jackson's life/creative partner] when we were trying to do Halo. I think what they're doing in New Zealand is amazing. What they’re doing, in terms of the way they approach filmmaking -- the way I see it is, it's Hollywood the way God intended it. Because it's a filmmaker's dream and a filmmaker's facility. So it's heaven. The question is: Will I go to heaven? I have no idea."

Schwartz says that "the idea of you and Peter Jackson working together is enough to make every geek's head explode" and Del Toro says, "It would make my head explode! But you know, I think it's an eventuality. I would love to, but as my agent says, 'You're currently unemployed.'"

Fck Raimi, Del Toro for The Hobbit!

Jackson will pick someone who has a love and fondness for the books as he did is my opinion. For he a fan of The Rings trilogy is why they were done so well through a fans eyes.

The reports that Christopher Lee might not be interested worry me, as I'm sure PJ will want to show the meeting of the White Council. That would have the potential to be one of the most interesting parts of the films.

!snap

Well he is getting old and by the release time Lee may not be here. I figure Lee does films now adays by able to do and not plan to do any future projects.
Also he may be still mad about his cutting out of the Return Of The King. But he was in the extended cut and it is nice that PJ showed respect to see the scene being seen by us.

yeah but i imagine its because of Tin Tin and atleast he is a good enough to not want teh fans to wait too long for The Hobbit. He's not so selfish like some say. He is not a George Lucas clone after all he is thinking of the fans.
