Hmm I totally forgot about the age comparisons with a Hobbit. I suppose Martin Freeman would be ideal. But I'll sit back until an announcement is made. Hurst would make a good Hobbit though. :D

McKellan and Serkis are confirmed but haven't signed contracts yet. I haven't heard about Hugo Weaving but I hope so.

Yes - these are really the only returning LOTR actors that will matter in The Hobbit.

Although, as I've said before, I wouldn't be surprised to see a random Arwen/Liv Tyler scene thrown in at Rivendale in an attempt to put some kind of recognizable female character into the film.

Pre-production is about to get under way on the two-part "Hobbit." Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are expected to pen the scripts under the direction of Peter Jackson and del Toro. Preliminary contact has already been made with at least three actors whose "Lord of the Rings" characters also appear in the "Hobbit" storyline: Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollum).

"We will all be involved in the script in some fashion but the exact definition is about a week away, " said del Toro. "I am all for keeping the actors who originated the parts, as much as availability and their willingness will allow."

Sounds like ol' Viggo's likely to be involved now, too...

:word:

Sweet. I loved Viggo as Aragorn. Im looking forward to this. When is it coming out again? Next year?

They start filming in 09. Releases in 2010 and 2011...

I like the news Viggo coming back. :cwink:

I remember the film was going to be cut into two parts a while back... hmm

Been a while since I read the Hobbit, does Aragorn appear in it?

Its a little more complicated than that.

They're using the Hobbit as their basis for the story BUT, they are also using J.R.R Tolkein's old notes of Middle Earth history to come up with their own original story...that will be the basis of the 2nd movie.

Hence the possibilities of many old faces from the LOTR trilogy showing up in the new movies.

And to answer your question, as I recall, I don't think Aragorn is in "The Hobbit,"

hmm... Well I do recall in the notes you mention that Aragorn helps Gandalf track down Gollum... hmm maybe Legolas might an appearance since he also helps in keeping Gollum in captivity.

The last old face came to my mind was Arwen...

It would be cool if Orlando Bloom makes a cameo as Legolas in The Hobbit, since his father was king of the elves that capture the dwarves.

IGN.com caught up with Liv and asked whether or not she'll agree to portray Arwen for The Hobbit films:

"Oh, are you kidding?" she says when asked. "In a heartbeat! I'll buy my own ticket and be on the plane in a second. I mean, that was a magical experience and it was just a once in a lifetime, amazing [thing]. Because it was so like… we knew and we didn't know that it was sort of something that had never been done before, and there was this feeling that was really gung-ho. Like, 'O.K., let's go off together!' And we just rolled our sleeves up. It really was this amazing, crazy, special thing."

Would be kinda nice especially since Aragorn will be in it. I think it would be a nice way of showing how Aragorn first sets his eyes on Arwen as he tracks down Gollum into Galadriel's woods and would give a little insight on how they met.

I love Liv. She was great in the LOTR trilogy, even though she wasn't in them a lot but I think she was a worthy addition to the films as Arwen.

Im looking forward to going back to Middle-earth in 2010 and its been too long.

Martin Freeman would be a great young Bilbo, He looks like a Hobbit.

I... I think I just had my first LotR Geek-moment.

I actually squeeled when I read Viggo might be coming back to play Aragorn... Not a manly cheer or an indifferent 'Cool' but a full blown squeel.

I need to sit down.

:) I almost did too. hehe

Would you like an ale, Sir?

A pint?

lols

Ah. Listening to the LOTR soundtrack - extended recordings.

Brings back memories cause Howard Shore did an excellent score for these movies. I have the Fellowship theme stuck in my head. :)

I'm late in coming to this thread. Awesome that Viggo and Serkis are back!

I was searching around on the net for some plot speculation in that third film...

Events that take place are

Aragon tracking down Gollum
Balwin moves to Moria
The Gondor Brothers retake Osgilith
Saruman searches for the ring, then withdrawls...

You could also have flashbacks to Gandalf expelling the Nazgul our of mirkwood, which happens offscreen in the hobbit...

What else? I gotta research...

If you have the book Return of the King, its got the appendix of short notes of went on before the Fellowship of the Ring...if my memory serves me well. Theres also Tales of ...I forget the rest of the book title. I had it but I think I sold it.

If they get Sean Bean back for Borimir I will **** a proverbial brick.

I loves me some Sean Bean.
