The better question is who will play Gollem for Doug Jones is Del Toros body actor just as Andy is Peter Jacksons.
My guess is Doug will do the body work and Andy will do Voices for Gollem and Smaug unless they get someone really good for Smaug voice.
My money would be on Jeremy Irons if i were casting or Ron Perlman for Del Toro loves that guy.

Ron Perlman would be decent as Beorn I suppose. If Del Toro casts him as Beorn I really wouldn't complain.

Beorn i forget who that is. Its been ages since i read the hobbit. Is that the Elf kings name ??

On one hand, I'm annoyed with the Estate because they seem to have a splintered stick perpetually shoved up their asses when it comes to films based on Tolkien's work. The movie's have done nothing more than provide fans with another medium to enjoy the stories, and the movies have even made new fans out of people who were otherwise uninterested in LoTR. Seriously. The movie's weren't a mockery of Tolkien's work. They weren't an embarassment. Quit making the films out to be ruinous. They were anything BUT that.

On the other hand, I am annoyed with New Line. They ****ed over Peter Jackson, and now they won't give the Tolkien Estate their dues? Honestly, are they purposely TRYING to make this difficult? I suppose I can see their point though. A $150 million dollar settlement with the Tolkien Estate wouldn't be worth the millions that two Hobbit films would rake in.
....Oh wait..

I'm especially pissed off about this now that Del Toro is the front runner to direct. Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro working together on The Hobbit would be orgasmic. But once again, Hollywood politics and business has to interfere. For Christ's sake.

Tom Cruise is in final negotiations to play the lead role in The Hobbit.

Hell yeah....Middle Earth set to Cruise control!!! I'm in love, woooooo!!!

Does anyone know who is writing the script for these films since the strike is over

Q: So is The Hobbit with GDT official?

GDT: Whew- Not yet. BUT there has been a lot of movement. And for the last few weeks there has been a lot of creative / cast / crew / visual talks and agreements and we have witnessed great progress in areas that I cannot disclose or that have already leaked from other sources. I am dying to share news but I have to be patient and wait until the papers are done and my attachment is real. Nevertheless- a LOT of progress in defining the films, their cast and crew. And, may I add, we are all happily in synch about all creative aspects so far and all willing and eager to move forth. I cannot say more but if all´s well the time will come To talk of many things: Of shoes — and ships — and sealing wax — Of cabbages — and kings

i can't wait for GDT to show mr. peter hack-son how a good, entertaining LOTR movie can be made.

I was unaware that there were people out there that did not like or think the Jackson LoTR movies were classics until i came here.

Oh man, I cannot wait for this. I havent been this excited for a film since they announced Superman Returns a few yrs ago. I just hope i'm not dissapointed with this film like I was with S.R.

Yeah, Peter Jackson sure is a hack when it comes to film. Have you forgotten that ALL three of the LOTR are critically acclaimed films? Every single one of them either won an Academy Award or was nominated for one. Obviously ROTK swept the Academy Awards the year it was nominated.

Seriously I think you're bitter over the fact that Jackson made an entertaining, emotional, and epic tale that was considered impossible to make on the big screen.

Man, have YOU been misinformed.

Well this is a comic book forum and well Spiderman or Batman Begins and Star Wars is king here. But in my Opinion Lord Of The Rings, Pirates of The Caribbean and Indiana Jones are the very best in trilogy films. Deltoro is talented for sure but no one has given a film more attention and time then Jackson did with the LOTR trilogy and he was very faithful as possible to the books and the Tolkien family should kiss him for that.

Can we say that it's a sure bet for Guillermo now? I'd love for him to adapt the novel.

I love deltoro's work very much and to me Jackson and Deltoro are not so differant as in skill level or looks of there style of films. Both have a flare for scary stuff its just Jackson adapted such a massive novel and GoT Lucas praise and dislike.
Deltoro and Jackson together will be amazing. Harry Potter better watch out for the Hobbit is coming 2010 the same year Harry Potter 7 will be released.

So...Christopher Walken as our friendly, neighborhood Hobbit.
and Samuel L. Jackson as Gandalf.
YES!

;)

The only areas I see Del Toro putting his personal touch is with Smaug and the dwarves. Everything else is just requisite Tolkien stuff. You can't change Gollum too much from what PJ did, or it'll come off way too iffy.
