According to the New Zealand Press Association, Prime Minister John Key says he is prepared to meet Warner Brothers in a bid to keep The Hobbit in New Zealand.

A very candid video interview with Sir Peter Jackson and his wife.

My God, he looks so tired and worn out. And completely furious at what's going on. He gets really passionate when he talks about Hellen Kelly at 4:00, who's leading the charge against Jackson. A must watch:

Behind them, you can see the set for Gollum's cave.

Gosh, this whole dispute is so confusing to me....I really don't understand it. He does look and sound frustrated as heck.

So now they are begging Warner Brothers to keep this movie in New Zealand ? LMAO say no Warner Brothers say no. *****es like Helen Kelly will eventually be out of a job if you say no

See, this is gonna be one of those things we as movie fans remember years down the line, how getting this movie made caused all this emotion and difficulty. Could become one of those infamous stories.

Wow, watching Peter was heartbreaking. I'm sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle of the multiple sides, but I'm willing to bet that it sits closer to Peter's side, based on what I've been catching up on this morning.

the best part is that he didnt even want to do this movie. he wanted only to produce it and to find a new director. he found it and now he is gone. now Jackson is doing it out of desperation.

hahahahahaahahah grow some balls Jackson.

Bureaucrats will be the end of us all. It's sad that someone with an agenda can cause all this heartache. Hopefully the PM will be able to instill some confidence in Warner Brothers and assure them that NZ is still a good place to make this movie.

Just another example of why Unions are no longer needed today...

Ah but if you get rid of the ability or the threat of unionization, things will begin to devolve back to the way things were. Unions are one of the few safeguards to the mindless pursuit of profit.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Or is the genie out of the bottle once that step is taken?

Oh I agree with the watchmen anology fully, the fact of the matter is the companies still have a right to profit, and unions are of course not infallable and can become far to powerful and unrealistic in their demands, its about a constant renegotion to maintain a balance. The writers strike from a few years ago is still have reprecussions, but the fact of the matter was that many screenwriters were getting screwed. Should they not be able to collectively bargain to figure out a more fair agreement? If one side chooses not to operate in good faith wheather it be a large corporation or a very powerful guild then everyone loses. But to say there is no need for them at all is preposterous, itd be completely onesided then.

Because there's a lot of money involved. He doesn't want to see that revenue disappear from his country's coffers. That and it might make other movie companies that would consider making future movies there, not want to.

My God, Peter. I feel so bad for him. First we had to deal with MGM and the rights for a good number of years, and now this. This is like a whole other chapter to get this thing made.

If he looks tired and worn out now, I can't even imagine what he's gonna wind up as after he makes these films. All of this is coming on his head.

I really hope to see this film at its full potential.
