Ultimate X-Men #74 will arrive in stores on Sept. 13 from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Robert Kirkman, with pencils and cover by Tom Raney.

Here's how Marvel describes the issue:

"'Magical,' part 3 of 3. The X-Men learn once and for all the mystery behind the Magician -- and they may not like what they find. The X-Mansion is the stage for the brawl to end them all, with an outcome you will never guess. Plus -- hints as to the final fate of Jean Grey, leading up to the monumental 75th issue!"

Ultimate X-Men #74 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.99.

I don't really like Raney's work, as I said before, I want Stuart Immonen back.

GOD NO! His style is completely wrong for this type of book. I didn't pick up Nextwave for a good long while because his work on here left such a bad taste in my mouth. On a hokey, high comedy book like Nextwave, he's perfect. But a more serious darker book like this, it's a terrible match.

Hmmm... agree to disagree.

I hope the brotherhood is just a product of reality alterations in those previews. If not, Charles really needs to work on getting better locks for the mansion....in both universes really.

I think that it's obvious that they are. Which explains their appearence earlier and how they and the X-Men acted while fighting them.

I agree, he is NOT the artist to be doing this book. They need to bring back that artist (name slips my mind) that was paired off with Vaughn... Or was it Vaughn? Right around the time Dazzler and Kitty came in.

They need to bring in that guy for the regular X-Men book, instead of Bachalo.

Poor Wolvie, getting all exploded like that. Bad Jean, no cookie.

I like Raney's art way better than Oliver's, but... I'd probably like the art of a dead monkey's over Oliver's. At least it wouldn't suck. And while I did like Immonen's... I dunno, I think I came into liking it over time, and I think that it just meshed well with BKV's writing. I don't think Immonen being on the book with Kirkman would work very well, but at least it'd work better than Oliver's.

Raney's not a bad fit on the title. His characters look more like Kubert's, and that's not bad in my book.

I will be very pissed if this Magician boy gets to defeat Jean with a couple of Brotherhood mutants. I just hope he gets his ass kicked big time

WOW that looks so bloody cool, can't wait to get the next issue its going to be so cool.

When does Singers arc begin?

He's writing it now, and after he's done, they'll decide when it's best that it will fit in with the timeline, and release it then.

Maybe Singer will be the one to bring Gambit back, perhaps he feels guilty about promising him for X2 and for X3, although he didn't end up directing it.

Did anybody read the Annual? God that left a bad taste in my mouth. They really villified Nightcrawler here and wiped Gambit out of Rogue completely.

Can we please use the new spoiler feature for the previes pages? I don't want the issue spoiled yet.

with all due respent dude you should put major stuff about an issue into spoilers. just thought Id give ya a heads up before somebody gives you crap. And also to everyone who hasent read it yet I suggest you holed off reading it until the next issue comes out cause this annual kinda gives away what happens to the magician.

Yeah, I wasn't pleased at all. :( What a waste.

Good, Rogue needed to lose Gambit's powers and Kurt was already being an ass with his rampant homophobia.

Wow, I'm surprised to hear that some people thought the annual was a waste. I didn't think so at all! Great art, and it succeeded in
getting rid of Dazzler, who was quite the odd one out in the group, I'm glad she's gone. I'd really like to know what Rogue saw about Kurt!

I'm glad that Dazzler's gone. She served no purpose whatsoever.
Man was this depressing though. I feel so bad for Kurt and Rogue's comment didn't help either. :( I wonder what she meant by it though. I can't wait to see how this affects his role on the team.

Ultimate X-Men writer Robert Kirkman was the focus of a Marvel telephone press conference on Thursday, promising many changes in the title.

The conference was targeted to Ultimate X-Men #75, which introduces the Ultimate version of Cable.

"Which I think is going to be pretty cool," Kirkman said. "It will lead to a lot of big shakeups in the lineup and at least one death."

Like the Marvel Universe version of the character, Kirkman said he feels Cable will be a catalyst for change in the Ultimate Universe.

"He's a very important character, who wipes the slate clean and opens a lot of doors for new things," Kirkman said.

Although Cable's powers will be very different from the Marvel Universe version, Kirkman said he liked the paramilitary look of Cable and will retain all the weapons hanging off of him.

"I made it a goal to make sure he uses every piece," Kirkman said, noting there will be some crazy fighting in Ultimate X-Men #75-76.

Kirkman is also introducing Ultimate Bishop. Both characters will be from the future, and Cable will be more of a man of mystery like he once was in the Marvel Universe.

"I want to play it close to the vest with the future stuff," Kirkman said. "I don't want to immediately have the X-men running around in future and fighting robots and all that sci-fi stuff.

"It's a future that will be discussed and talk about. We're not going to see the future -- at least initially."

In other highlights from the call:

* Kirkman said Professor Xavier was his favorite X-Men character to write. "I think he's a great character," he said. "Sometimes I think he gets pushed to the sideline as a character because people focus on Wolvrine and all the action."
He said he also enjoy writing Jean Grey and there will be lots of "twists and turns" with her character.

* Asked if he had any stories from the 1990s X-Men books that he'd like to adapt the for the Ultimate Universe, Kirkman said he and editor Ralph Macchio had talked about the Age of Apocalypse, although nothing is currently planned.

* Kirkman set he did "something drastic" with Nightcrawler in the Ultimate X-Men Annual because he wants to set the tone that "nothing's safe."

* Ultimate Domino will be part of the story.

Ugh, I was hoping they would use time travel for Cable's story. It'll be interesting to see how they make him different from 616 Nate. Nice optic beam deflection too :D

And I'm super excited about the bonus story about Emma's team as they house some of my fav mutants.

.....and Ultimate Bishop? I'll reserve judgment till I see him. I tend to be really skeptical when it comes to time travel. How cool would it have been though, to have Cable AND Bishop show up together as like, a time-traveling tag team?
