Comics Official UNCANNY X-MEN Discussion Thread

I thought it was kinda obvious that Hope somehow stabilized the manifestation of the girl's mutation and let if fully come out.
That's what I got out of it as well. I'm a bit slow, but doesn't this make sense as Hope probably triggered the mutation in the first place when she did her Phoenix thing on the bridge? It was right after that the five lights showed up.

Im not sure I buy it. They found her family WAY too fast. MC was 4 years ago and they had nothing but once they start looking, they find out who her mother is within the first few pages? I dont know why or how but I think those records were altered. It just seemed too easy

It seems they already knew about it, at least Cyclops. That's why he let her go off on her own, as he knew there was no danger.

Check his discussion with Hope after she leaves her grandmother

thanks. Its odd that it was never mentioned till now. It seems as if its been made into such a big deal as she was a complete mystery, yet Scott's known all along and there wasnt much to it at all. Seems very anticlimatic

During Messiah Complex, they spent their time talking about her importance instead of her origins. Afterward, Hope's birth mother (because I still consider Hope Sr. her real mom) and origins were simply never brought up again. It wasn't a mystery; it just wasn't mentioned. Then when when Reed Richards asked about Hope's family, Hope & Anna were the only X-Men in the room, and they simply didn't know. So when Hope told Scott she wanted to find her birth parents, even though he found out already off-panel, he decided to let her find out for herself.

I'm glad Hope has a real parent and isn't just some fragment made by Jean Grey or experiment made by Sinister that somehow ended up in a hospital.

At this time, I'd like to do my "I told you all Hope wasn't Jean" dance.

Ah but Hope's Father is not on her birth cert and her grandmother didn't give too much away on that part so Manic she may have an Anikan Skywalker type conception.

but why was it never brought up? The X club went into the past to get info on Dr. Nemesis parents and a biological sample bc his birth was the spark of the modern day mutations. They made it seem as if origins was such an imporant part of their research and could hold the key to reactivating the X gene. Why then was Hope's origins and her family explored and researched considering her birth was the beginning of post-HoM mutations? To say the X club researched, got appropriate samples and tested Hope's family all off panel is kinda weak if you ask me

It's just horrible plotting.

We all know Hope was nothing more than a MacGuffin during Messiah Complex. A mutant baby was born in Alaska, everybody wants her for themselves, fights ensue, Cable takes her to the future. I doubt there was any real origin in mind for the girl other than "She's a powerful newborn, and let's give her red hair so people will think she's Jean." Now that she's back and 17, it looks like Fraction just got the issue of her birth parents (at least her mom) out of the way in a single issue.

If Hope had just found a gravestone for Louise Spalding, I'd be suspicious too. However, the fact that Cyclops said he investigated it earlier and the meeting of Louise's mother-- that's just too straight forward (and not blatant enough) to imply that Hope's origins are questionable. The only questionable thing about Hope's birth is the identity of her father.

And as far as we know, the X-Club probably never looked up Hope's family. They clearly wanted blood samples from living humans who gave birth to a mutant.

Jean briefly possesses and speaks through Hope? Fine. Jean fully takes over Hope's body and erases Hope's personality rather than come back in her own damn body? I doubt it.

And there were a lot of people who thought Hope was literally created by Jean or that Jean just spontaneously created a new body for herself. Clearly not the case.

I hear people now think Louise concieved Hope via immaculate conception and are connecting this story to Christian parallels. Jean used her as a vessel to give birth to Hope. Yeah this stuff gets kinda convoluted. Jean = God. Phoenix Force = Holy Spirit and Hope = Jesus, the messiah. Louise = Mary. The five lights represent disciples and that comes from Laurie wanting to kill herself to being healed of her pain after Hope's touch and as a result follows her. As crazy as this sounds, I wonder if this is the direction Fraction is going with all of this

I can see where this is going. Hope starts her own group of followers, and then just when everyone least expects it...

I doubt Sage's powers work like Hope's. Anyway, she's stuck in the multiverse.

I really liked Sage. I loved the tag team, of her and Bishop.

Plus Elias Bogen was quite a good villian.

I see Hope jumpstarting people's powers now. Isn't that why we had Sage?

Sage jumpstarted latent mutations which hadn't even started to come out yet in people. Hope is more stabilizing the mutations as they manifest so they can fully come out, because as has been said by the writers and editors, the mutations are coming out wrong and not in the same way as before.

Look who's still a mutant, on her first X-men mission in nearly 10 years and going to be in the next UXM

OK was she ever on the 198 list? Are they going to gloss over Neverland and her going missing etc? Probably, I don't know the character but I would find a standalone issue dealing with these issues good. I'm sick of editors and writers saying the same old thing as it wouldn't push the story forward and it could have happened off panel. One thing I wanted to see was Rogue deal with her Brother's death harder that what she did in SC and it's aftermath in Legacy but oh well it doesn't push the story forward so I may as well forget about it.

Cecilia was never confirmed to be powered or depowered since M day. She hasnt used her powers since so we didnt know what her status was, at least until now.

You know, I never saw Kurt & Anna as brother & sister. Friends, yes. They share a mother/foster mother, sure. But their friendship never made it seem like they were siblings to me. Kitty comes off more like Kurt's sister, really.

That said, it would've been nice to see her say something during Kurt's funeral.
