Comics Official UNCANNY X-MEN Discussion Thread

I wonder how many people bought Osborn's victory speech, considering news cameras caught him and Moonstone cowering before an army of teens and young adults before flying away. Osborn went on TV and called Utopia a prison, but it's not like anyone is going to force the X-Men to stay there. Every superhero under Osborn's control lives on the East Coast, so there's no one to stop the X-Men from walking around San Francisco again. Much like the Real Avengers led by Pym, I'm sure the X-Men are free to travel all around the world.

so. is Xavier's dream dead?
With Scott as leader, I say yes. I hate the whole idea of Utopia. He's done more to seperate and segregate mutants than anyone in recent years. He's becoming more and more like Magneto and doesnt even realize it. And again I hate how no one stands up to oppose him. Scott says jump and all the other X-men and mutants say how high

It's not like Xavier's dream ever worked for more than five minutes without something crashing it down.

Magneto was only wrong in his fanatic Nazi way, gets that part out of him he could be a nice leader for mutant kind.

They were closer to living Xavier's dream when everyone was living in San Francisco. The mutants walked around freely, and the humans openly accepted them. There are only about 200 mutants in SF, so I'm pretty sure most of the big unruly mob that attacked Trask's anti-mutant group during Utopia were pro-mutant humans.

Oh, yes, they were, but that didn't stop Osborn the idiot from disturbing their life, I'd feel really annoyed if things like that keep coming up - every stranger thinks they have a say in the way you live. Besides, having an Utopia exclusively for themselves is not a bad idea, because you can guarantee there'll be another Osborn coming for the X-Men one-day, and they won't have to worry about the neighbors in the Utopia.

I think Scott has played things out differently to Magneto. His speech (which I can only assume Fraction has put a helluva lot of thought into) alludes to a new purpose for mutants, rather than a new mutant state being established like many seem to believe. Although if comic fans reading the issue have mixed views on what Scott really meant, then you can imagine if it were real that a good deal of the general public would also be uncertain what his statement really meant.

Utopia stands for different things than both Genosha and Asteroid M did. Here, the purpose of the island is to provide a safe haven for the remaining 200 mutants. One that is not amongst any other civilian property or land where it may be a potential threat in terms of wayward powers, or explosive fights instigated by superiority of 'evil mutants' or hatred of mutants by ignorant humans. Scott inviting 200 people to live away from risks to themselves or the public is a way of ensuring to both humans and mutants that no one will be hurt, ever. By stating Xaviers mandate of "protecting a world etc etc", he is almost saying that those residents of Utopia aren't completely separated from the world, but are merely living offshore to make everyone safe, and that because there are now so few of them it becomes even more important to use their powers to help out ANYONE whenever possible rather than merely be a person with powers just living an everyday life.

You know whose life I fear for? Dr. Rao. She's living in Utopia, but isn't she notorious for creating the Hope Cure? Even Emma once considered killing her.

Scott is only interpreting Xavier's version with a more practical way, after all, Xavier's dream relied on Natural Cycle runs its course, they only needed to wait until mutation became the norm, and made sure mutants and human didn't kill each other before that.

And Deadpool totally misunderstood Cyke. :oldrazz:

yeah. i think Xavier foresaw mutants one day surpassing humans as the dominant species and worked towards a peaceful transition period.

and then wanda came and bent that dream over and went at it with a spiked baseball bat soaked in vinegar and alcohol.

leaving scott to uh...try and nurse it back to something resembling it's once past notion.

except where mutants were once going to become a majority, they are stuck in the transition mode of just trying to get along with humans without humans just deciding to wipe em all out...(again)

Several fans wrote in with the following question, including CmX, Chris Garcia, Weslley, and Alex M. This well-heeled group of gentlemen all emailed with…wardrobe concerns?

Is there any way that Psylocke can get a new costume? Or at least have her current one redesigned or updated? The thongkini is iconic, but needs to go the way of the dodo.

JEANINE SCHAEFER: Is the thong out? When did that happen?

DANIEL KETCHUM: For better or worse, the “thongkini” is here to stay for the time being. But that’s not the only thing we’ve seen Psylocke wearing recently. Check out the past few issues of “Uncanny X-Men,” where Terry Dodson loves creating new looks for our favorite psychic ninja. And stay tuned for the upcoming “Psylocke” limited series, which will feature a few peeks at some of your favorite Psylocke costumes from back in the day.

Details? Elixir86 is thinking of one particular detail that would explain a lot…

When will the X-Club finally start looking for Hope Summers' genetic parents? It seems kind of ridiculous that none of the X-Men are interested in her folks, considering all the work that’s been done to restart the mutant gene and find Hope.

NICK LOWE: To answer your first question, the X-Club has its hands full getting the new island up and running so…well, so it doesn’t sink. So the question of Hope’s parentage (and don’t think we forgot that mystery) is going to have to wait.

In “Dark Reign: The Cabal” one-shot, the Namor story contains the first appearance of Crosta, an Atlantean boy with the power to create directed shockwaves. At the end of that story, Namor send him to the X-Men in San Francisco. Will we see this fact addressed anytime soon?

NICK LOWE: Keep your eyes peeled. He’ll be making waves very soon!

What is the feeling about the X-Men moving, yet again, from San Francisco and now to their own little gated community? Will it last? What is Magneto going to say about it?

NICK LOWE: In response to your strangely posed question about the “feeling” now that they’re on Utopia – the island is their home now. They’ve been pushed to the edge of civilization in a way and they’re making the best of it. At this point, survival is their main concern. I’m not an expert on biology, but a species with less than 200 organisms to its name doesn’t have much of a chance. And Magneto? Check out “Uncanny” starting with #515!

As we’re discussing things in space, Fortyseven wants to know more about an item from space that’s here on Earth.

Will it be explained, at some point, how Asteroid M made it to the bottom on the Pacific Ocean? I thought it blew up in the sun at the end of Morrison's “Planet X?”

NICK LOWE: It’ll be explained right here! There has been more than one Asteroid M. In fact, there has been at least three of these Asteroid M’s (depending on if you consider a rebuilt Asteroid M to be a new one). This is the first Asteroid M (or at least most of the first one).

Didn't they say a while back that Dodson was designing a new costume for Psylocke?

*sigh/groan*

I have to learn to overlook the art part when reading Uncanny, and hide it shamefully when taking the book out in public.

The art is that disappointing.

convenient how Land is drawing a female character who needs to strip as an advantage against her opponent. :whatever:

i didnt realize Scalphunter was still at that diner.

Anyone else almost expecting Bouncing Betty to go "Yodel-Ay-Ee-Oooo!!!" instead of "Incoming!"? Just me?

*looks at the cover*

Do ya think he could have made Emma's boobs any bigger? I mean geez....

Thought there was a girl whose inspiration was to watch her breasts grow bigger and bigger, Land is a man, so I guess we can excuse him.

Is it just me or do Marvel females dress more and more like the Katie model(or something, not sure) of UK?

To be fair, the chicks in the previews all have breasts bigger than their faces.

LOL...I think I may have found Land's inspiration for that buff chick. Its Helga from American Gladiators
