Comics Official X-Men Forever Thread

I am really enjoying Forever because as I said earlier it feels like a team book. The other XMen books IMO suck right now. The XMen in 616 don't even feel like a unit anymore. All the books seem like solo projects with guest spots by other characters. They aren't really interesting at all.

they should just name it the book that doesnt have Scott and Emma in it

Part of the current premise of X-Factor is that the team refuses to fall in line with Scott & Emma's reign over the mutant race. They don't answer to Cyclops, and they never moved to San Francisco with the rest of the X-teams.

That would have been a nice premise for one of the other xmen books or maybe Xavier breaks camp from Scott and forms his own team

Legacy should have been that book. It should have morphed into an X-men team book following Xavier rather than Scott and Emma

My criticisms of Claremont notwithstanding, I actually like the explanation he came up with for Jean/Cyclops/Logan.

Because honestly, the whole Cyclops/Jean/Madelyn thing never sat well with me at all or the fact that fans accepted it. What Cyclops did to his family after Jean came back was the ultimate symbol of *****ebaggery.

i posted it...post 391
ok I reread it and its crap. I guess it explains the stuff he's currently writing in Forver but unfortunetly thats not quite how things actually were written back then

OK but back then, Cyclops was pretty much a ****ing *****ebag when Jean came back.

I can understand why some may view him as such, but I didnt. He didnt handle things all that well, but I felt he did the best he could considering the situation

You mean the situation where he abandoned his wife and kid to be with his ex-girl and homies, but didn't tell his ex-girlfriend that he was married? Yeah, he did the best he could there.

well it wasnt that simple. He didnt just abandon her as he didnt end his marriage and had every intention of going back. And he did. His biggest mistake was taking so long to do so bc by that time unbeknownst to him, Sinister had sent the Maurarders for her.

It's not like he went to New York to see Jean then went home the next day. He went to New York to see Jean, hooked up with his old pals, formed a new superhero team, and then decided that maybe it was time to ask his wife not to cut his nuts off in his sleep. God knows that even if Mads was still home when he got back, that marriage would've effectively been over.

the marriage should have never happen. They had issues and were fighting before Scott left and formed X-factor. That was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Lets face it, the only reason why he even hooked up with Maddie was bc she looked like Jean. Jean was his heart. He loved her immensely and was planning on marrying her. She dies and a few months later he sees her double. They marry within a few weeks. To me, it was always as if he was trying to pick up right where he left off with Jean. I dont think he ever really loved Maddie. He was faking himself

I thought she was wrong to make him leave the X-men. Ever since he was a teen, he lived and breathed Xavier's mission. The X-men was his life and leading and fighting for mutants was his passion. She never really accepted that. She was yelling at him and throwing fits when he kept finding himself drawn to them, but she knew that going into the marriage.

Then comes X-factor 1. When Warren called him and told him about Jean, he had to go see her. I dont see how he couldnt. If he didnt, it would be a dark cloud looming over him and his marriage to Maddie bc he'd always be thinking about Jean and Maddie would sense that and they'd both be miserable. Jean coming back brought back unresolved issues which he needed to deal with. Before he left, Maddie gave him an ultimatum. Either stay or leave and dont come back. He went to NY, but I dont think he felt she was serious; more like she was angry and needed time to cool down. In NY, he got swept up in the excitement of the 5 of them being reunited. It was like old times and when Warren presented the idea of X-factor, it felt right bc he'd be continuing Xavier's mission of helping and training young mutants which is what he always wanted to do.

To his credit, over the following weeks, he did try and contact Maddie numerous times. She did ignore his calls and she did avoid him. He left her to deal with her anger bc he felt she needed space and time. Unforuntely for both of them, when he did go back to Alaska, she went missing. As far as Jean goes, I think he genuinely was trying not to hurt her. He didnt try anything with her and he didnt lead her on. Like I said, he didnt handle things right, but he was caught between a rock and hard place. He was screwed no matter what he did. Its not his fault his life was manipulated by Sinister. It wasnt his fault his dead fiancee came back from the dead after he had married and fathered a child. Its not his fault he was psychicly influenced into leaving the X-men. So many imporant events in his life were orchestrated and manipulated by outside influences and he did do as good as he could considering all that was going on

It was his fault. What he could've done was TELL THE ****ING TRUTH. Jean deserved the truth.

The only time they were fighting is when Scott tried to put his tights back on....which was in the Xfactor back story...until then they were depicted as a happy couple.

they fought in UXM 201, the issue where she pressured him to leave the X-men. I beleive that was their last appearance until X-factor 1, which showed that the fighting had gotten worse since then

And what would have done for his situation with Maddie? The issue people have always had with him was how he handled his marriage to Maddie, not how he dealt with Jean.

they also popped up in the X-men vs Alpha Flight mini also titled Asgardian Wars.

I think people were upset how he handled both of them. You dont abandon a wife and kid unless she is a succubus and his name is Grendel.
Scott didnt tell Jean he was married when she got back and she had to get it out of the others
