Don Imus is in hot water over racially-charged remarks he made on the air:

From MSNBC:
Don Imus is again drawing fire for injecting race into his radio show.

During an on-air conversation Monday about the arrests of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones, Imus asked, “What color is he?”

Told by sports announcer Warner Wolf that Jones is “African-American,” Imus responded: “There you go. Now we know.”

Civil rights leader Al Sharpton has issued a statement calling the exchange “disturbing because it plays into stereotypes.” He says his National Action Network will decide in the next day or so whether to take any action.

Imus was fired from his previous show last year after he made a racially charged comment about the Rutgers women’s basketball team.

Representatives for Imus and WABC Radio haven’t returned calls seeking comment. Jones’ attorney hasn’t responded to an e-mail.

Don Imus is in hot water over racially-charged remarks he made on the air:

Believe it or not I did not agree with Imus being terminated although I was rather offended by his remarks.

He does not need to be fired forhaving dirrea of mouth ladened with ignorance. He has the right to speak his mind even if he is a bit of a racist.

This is pretty much what Imus was always known for.

Also, Sharpton should just shut up. He only fuels race fires rather than fans them.

I knew someone would say this. :whatever:

Al is a loudmouth at times and he gets involved in the wrong causes regularly. Sometimes he is wrong like in the Duke case and sometimes he right like in the Jena case.

The students were wrong for attacking that other student but they all should not have been tried as adults.

Al Sharpton is an utter hypocrite. He has said offensive things about other races/ cultures, so I do not see why he deserves to be considered an "agent of tolerance." Same thing with Jesse Jackson.

As for Don Imus, who is the topic of this thread, I did not support his removal from the air last year. I believe he should have been suspended, but not removed. I believe a suspension should be in order here as well, as I do not see how these remarks can be taken out of context. It certainly came off as if he was justifying this "Pacman" character's actions by pointing out his race.

Exactly what has Al Sharpton said, in your view, that is offensive about other races and cultures.

Jessie has specifically said some totaly bogus things about other races.

Al has a bad habit of sticking his neck out at the wrong time.

That was mostly Jessie.

Pat Buchanan has made several anti-black coments.

And your point? It doesn't negate any of the despicable things that Jessie and Alhave said about Jews, Caucasians and other groups of people.

Sharpton had this to say about Mitt Romney's Mormonism:

As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation.

And this is one of my favorites:

White folks was in caves while we was building empires ... We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it.

Also, he accused the seven Duke University lacrosse students of raping a black stripper and was one of their most vocal opponents. Only thing is, they were found innocent, and Sharpton has yet to apologize for his accusatory, bitter remarks.

What have people have said and are saying about Muslims?

What empire was first Egyptian, Greek, Roman, or English? He chose his words badly but he was speaking to the veiw of inferiority some whites have about blacks.

The lady accused them herself, he stuck his nose in it when he should not have most of the black community figured she was full of it and thought she was gold-digging.

Don't assign all of Al's causes to all black people.

Don Imus has the IQ of a snail. He lost his job for this exact same thing and then he goes and does it again. :whatever:

God, Tag, can you honestly go a day without putting words in other people's mouths?

I did not assign the views of Al Sharpton to the entire black community. NOWHERE, ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE in my post did I even hint that Al Sharpton was the voice of every African American in this country.

Also, I cannot believe that you have provided justification for those disgusting remarks.

1) This has nothing to do with what people have been saying about black people or Muslims. Not at all. There is no justification for people to say derogatory things about another group of people, regardless of their religious beliefs, the color of their skin, or cultural heritage.

2) Al Sharpton was not being ironical with his remarks towards the Greeks. I do not see what is so "deep" about calling the Greeks a bunch of homos.

3) It is wholeheartedly hypocritical for a man who preaches racial and social tolerance to go around referring as entire cultures as "homos" or implying that the Mormon church is Godless. Why should America take this man seriously? Why should he be considered one of the leading voices on racial tolerance when he says and does things which differentiate from his message?

It makes no sense whatsoever for him to say what he has said. If he has a problem with what people are saying about Muslims, then he should say it outright. He should get on a stage and say "I think the way white people stereotype Muslims as Godless is bad." He should say that instead of making some bold, ridiculous and intolerant remark about Mitt Romney simply because he's a Mormon. If someone said that no one should vote for Barack Obama because black people don't have a soul, Al Sharpton would be flying through the roof, slamming everyone who dares thing such a thing. I don't see how his comments about Mormonism are any different.

His job as an "agent of tolerance" is to be one step ahead of the racists in this country. He shouldn't be saying intolerant things about other people; it makes him look bad.

Imus has every right to say what he thinks. He also has the right to suffer the repercussions.

Yup, he has the right to say what he wants. But that doesnt make it wise to do so.

He has the right to say what he wants, and the people who sign his paycheck have the right to fire his ass.

It should be interesting to see what they do to him this time.

I'm still trying to figure out what makes this guy special. I mean, I knew Stern was a genius when he got Melissa Gilbert (the girl from Little House on the Prairie) to talk about her sex habits specifically the use of a part of the body not traditionally intended for heterosexual sex with Rob Lowe and Bruce Boxleitner. But all I've heard from Imus is that he doesn't care about black people.

Link for proof: http://www.marksfriggin.com/news99/2-8-99.htm Warning, there's probably stuff in there you shouldn't read if you're under 32.

You did not others will and it just so happens that your post was the one I copied. I made my statement about Al not representing all black people as a general statement not a response to you directly. Anytime Imus' statements are mentioned someone else is going to bring up the bogus crap that Al and Jessie have said.

Notice I did not start the dialogue about Al Sharpton The Chairman did.

Also, I cannot believe that you have provided justification for those disgusting remarks.

Al and Jessie have made some rediculous statements NO DOUBT but when someone like Don Imus is chastized for his statements folks are outraged and say being PC is not fair.

2) Al Sharpton was not being ironical with his remarks towards the Greeks. I do not see what is so "deep" about calling the Greeks a bunch of homos.

I see your point about the homo line.

Yes Al Sharpton has made some bogus statements but there have been times, in recent history) when his activism has been needed.

Don Imus says race comment was misunderstood

NEW YORK - Months after returning to the radio with a pledge to mend the wounds caused by his comments about a women's basketball team, Don Imus is once again defending on-air remarks regarding race. During an on-air conversation Monday about the arrests of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones, Imus asked, "What color is he?"

Told by sports announcer Warner Wolf that Jones, who used to be nicknamed Pacman, is "African-American," Imus responded: "There you go. Now we know."

In the face of criticism that ensued, Imus said Monday that he had been misunderstood.

"I meant that he was being picked on because he's black," Imus said in a statement released by his spokesman.

The on-air exchange came six months after Imus' return to work on a new show on WABC-AM following his firing from MSNBC and CBS Radio for making a sexist and racially charged comment about the Rutgers University women's basketball team. When he returned to work, Imus gave a lengthy on-air apology and pledged to use his new show to foster an open dialogue on race relations.

Before Imus offered his explanation Monday, civil rights leader Al Sharpton criticized the remark, saying his National Action Network would look into it.

"I find the inference of his remark disturbing because it plays into stereotypes," Sharpton said in a statement. "We will determine in the next day or so whether or not his remark warrants direct action on our part."

Sharpton was one of the chief critics who successfully pushed for Imus' firing from his televised radio show in April 2007.

WABC and Citadel Broadcasting Corp. Vice President Phil Boyce said Imus would explain his comments on his Tuesday morning show and said it was unlikely the broadcasters would take disciplinary action.

Boyce said Imus had explained himself in a private conversation Monday afternoon and the explanation was satisfactory.

"I think some people may be misunderstanding what he meant," Boyce said.

Jones' attorney did not immediately respond to an e-mail.

Rutgers University women's basketball spokeswoman Stacey Brann said there was "no need to revisit the past" and wouldn't comment further.

On Monday's show, Imus and Wolf were discussing Jones' request Saturday that people stop using his nickname. Wolf explained Jones was suspended from the NFL following a shooting at a Las Vegas nightclub, and he added that Jones had been "arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee in 2005."

Imus' next words were, "What color is he?"

The college basketball thing was very insulting, and I'm glad he got fired for it, and had to grovel and beg for forgiveness for it. But this is nothing.

When are people going to stop giving this racist, ignorant old coot all the attention, and just ignore him and hope that his show gets canned permanently or he just falls off the planet completely.

Oh Imus, when will you learn?

From what I've heard, during the previous segment of that show they were having a discussion about how blacks were treated unfairly in this country. So when the issue of Pacman Jones's 6 arrests came up, that's when Imus made the sarcastic comments about Jones's race. I didn't hear the show myself so I'm only going by hearsay.
