The Dark Knight Oh G-d NO! Its rumors like this that have a way of coming true!

I'm saying he's an ok actor, but that an Oscar nomination means nothing in terms of quality, So you bringing up his nomination is pointless. The only reason he would be cast is because he's popular.
Isn't that a bit presumptuous? I mean, how do we know what's going through Nolan's mind, how do we know how well Gyllenhaal's screen test went, etc.?

And it's not like Nolan has much of a history of casting for popularity. Hell, even Katie Holmes (arguably his one casting gaff) was hardly that big of a name when Nolan cast her.

Rumors are Rumors and should be taken as such and with a grain of salt.

yes it is a bit presumptuous, but almost everything in this thread is for that matter.I don't think we'd be hearing Gyllenhaal's name as much if he didn't just come off one of the most talked about movies of the last few years. He's on the casting directors A list now, whether he's right for the role or not, he's "in". More importnatly for me, I think he's absolutely wrong for the role.

eeer you would because Gyllenhaal was the top runner for Batman against Bale.

never heard that, talk about dodging the bullet

Gyllenhaal was very close to being Spider-man too. Post Seabiscuit Tobey was having back problems and it looked like he would not be able to take up the Spidey suit in time for SP2. Gyllenhaal was going to take his place.

Then he was considered for Batman, screentested (and was Goyer's first choice pre Bales screen test) and then was made a "reserve" pick if Bale could not fully recover from his weight loss on the Machinist.

Personally, I fail to see what is so utterly ridiculous about casting a very talented young actor for this part.

Are we really this insecure about a BM reference? One, that's already played out by now, and will surely be nothing but a vague memory come '08?
It could be because he's absolutely wrong for the role. His pressence just would not hold up to Bale's Batman or Wayne. He's just as wrong for this role as he was for Superman.

Did you see Jarhead? The way he went from normal guy into complete nutso impressed me. Gyllenhaal is a great actor and I have no doubt that he could capture both sides of Two Face.

He would have been ok but he sure as hell wouldnt have been Bale.
Bale is Batman. I cant think of anyone doing it better.
And Maguire is Siper-Man. I dont want Gyllenhaal in that role either.

But I do hope the poor guy gets some comic role considering what a big fan he is and how good he is. Besides...he looks like a freakin' cartoon :p

Maybe not Bale's Batman, but certainly his Wayne. Jake has a lot of range as an actor, as said previously, just watch Jarhead to see how he can turn into a complete nut at the flip of a switch. His intensity is proven, which is why he was the backup choice had Bale not took up the offer from Nolan.

Actually, it following what many Jewish leaders had previously started doing. Spelling it that way to:

Specify that we are referring to THE GOD worshipped by Jews, Christians, and Muslims

and

Because we recognize clearly that the opposite spelling is DOG. So while no offense to dogs, we just choose to write it that way out of respect and love for our creator.

It doesn't offend me to see it spelt out by others, I just don't choose to write it like that for the reasons above.

That's utterly ridiculous. And this is coming from a Christian.

As if the Oscars actually celebrate quality. For that matter let's have Ben Affleck and Matt Damon write The Dark Knight, they actually won oscars for their writing.

While I agree that the Oscars aren't really relevant anymore, the two you mentioned won the Oscar for GOOD WILL HUNTING, which was an outstanding film.

I wasn't impressed with his performance in Jarhead. Doesn't hold a candle to any of the greats. It was just "good"...but not "great".

whos gives a ***** jake is a great actor. he'd be able to pull it off if he grew some muscle

I'd still love to see the screentests of Jake, Cillian and the others for Batman. I would really like to see what Joshua Jackson looks like and sounds like as the Bat.

He's too young looking. He's a fine actor, but ultimately not right for the part
