Cena holding the title until WrestleMania, and then going over Rock, that's my worst nightmare.

Much like Elimination Chamber this year, WWE took a predictable PPV and made it a better show than expected so kudos to them. My review:

Mysterio Vs. Truth - Great way to start the show. I like how R-Truth comes to the ring without any music. Not only is this a great way to ensure he keeps his heat as you can clearly hear the boos, but its amazing how much of it he was getting when you consider the fact this was the same guy who last year got the fans pumped with his "What's Up?" chants before he beat Ted Dibiase. Disappointed there was no 619 or R-Truth doing that cool Flipover Stunner of his, but seeing him try The Axe Kick and The Book End caught my interest as it might've led to something with Booker, but he didn't really say anything about it. In the shocker of the night, R-Truth beat Mysterio clean. I thought Truth would lose to add to his "conspiracy victim" angle, but getting a big win like that might now have people take him seriously as a top player.

Jackson Vs. Barrett - This tacked-on match was boring to watch, but amazingly the crowd was into it so what do I know? I don't know about you guys, but I think Jackson's favorite move is the bodyslam! I just feel sorry for Wade Barrett. I like the guy and unfortunately, his first Intercontinental Title defense on PPV had to be a stinker.

Cara Vs. Guerrero - Sin Cara's entrance is neat and this was a really good match and I'm surprised how over Sin Cara has gotten when you take in account that the guy doesn't talk. When's the last time Chavo was on PPV anyway? My only gripes were the weird lighting during the match and the botched finish with the head scissors takedown.

Show & Kane Vs. Punk & Ryan - Shame on WWE for not giving Alberto Del Rio a match to work with. Didn't care for this match, but I got a kick out of the "Batista!" chants and props to Punk for paying tribute to Savage. If WWE wants Punk to keep around, they shouldn't have him keep losing matches otherwise he'll be the one to say "I quit!"

Divas Match - To be honest with you, I wasn't paying attention to the match because I kept wondering why the referee looked so familar. Then I realized it was Nunzio. How long has he been back with the company? No Kharma appearance was a dumb decision.

Cage Vs. Orton - I knew Christian wasn't winning, but I think people forget to realize sometimes its not about the ending, its the journey to get there that matters and if you guys didn't enjoy this match at all then your taste in in-ring work is sorely lacking. A good buildup, a hot crowd, and a crisp match with lots of back and forth action with false finishes was what made the World Heavyweight Title match the true main event in my eyes. It was just so damn good, it should be high up on both men's Best Of Matches. Although I'll admit had Christian won with the Spear after Orton hesitated giving the Punt, it would've been perfect. I still think Orton should turn heel because if Christian goes back to being one, it'll be a bad move. Hopefully after his performance along with the support he was getting tonight, it'll convince McMahon that Christian deserves to remain a top player if not being world champion again.

Cole Vs. Lawler - Seriously, why are people b****ing about this? The match was short and this is exactly what should've happened at Wrestlemania. For months, Cole was a sh** talking punk who needed to get his ass handed to him and he did in the proper payoff that we, the viewers, had to excruciatingly wait for the past couple of months to finally get. Cole getting thrown into his announcing box was also a wonderful sight to see. They showed Bret Hart in the buildup video, but I wasn't expecting him to actually show up (I thought Jack Swagger was going to turn face by coming out and throwing Cole back into the ring) so that was a nice surprise. The image of Lawler's toes in Cole's mouth will be a guilty pleasure spectacle for many people for years to come.

Cena Vs. Miz - These guys cannot work a match together one on one. They had their suckfest at Wrestlemania, had Morrison carry the brunt of their work at Extreme Rules last month, and had to get Alex Riley physical involved tonight even though they already had a stipulation added that was supposed to cover up their weaknesses. With that said, making it a Handicapped Match was an original and brilliant move. I got to give it to Alex Riley. I'm not a fan of the guy, but he really helped in making this match watchable. I also like how John Cena was talking sh** while taking a beating including the brutal shots from the kendo stick that was making me cringe. Also reusing the finish from Rock / Mankind, but adding the twist of making it a false finish when the ref discovered the recorder was a job well done. I know some people hate John Cena for overcoming the odds, but this was easily one of his best comeback performances. Without The Rock or Alex Riley around to help him, there was no way The Miz was going to beat John Cena. Like Michael Cole, The Miz was running his mouth for months and finally got his ass kicked by Cena again much to the approval of the majority of fans. The fact of the matter is that Cena was choking the life out of The Miz so he had no choice, but to give up. I just hope Cena will get new and better opponents to work with during this 10th title of his.

So overall, the two matches I was watching the show for paid off and the main event was enjoyable to some degree. Not bad.

They should at least make it somewhat interesting and have Cena lose it then be desperate to gain it back.

I'm noticing a string of bad luck everytime these two get together. Miz got a concussion and almost landed on his head last ppv.

Was it an actual comeback? From what I read it sounded like Miz beat cena for half an hour and then Cena just popped up and did the aa .

I'll wind up watching this eventually on dvd. Orton&Christina match sounds good. Also Bret's my favorite wrestler, It will be nice to have that rare appearance.

Well in all fairness he did have have a good two minutes to heal from that half hour of torture and abuse.

THOUGHTS ON THE SALE OF RING OF HONOR AND THE POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES OF HOW IT WILL AFFECT THE COMPANY

By Stuart Carapola on 2011-05-23 11:00:00

This past weekend, prior to Supercard Of Honor VI in Chicago Ridge, ROH announced that it had been purchased by Sinclair Broadcasting Group, a major media company that owns local
network affiliates throughout the United States. This is obviously a huge deal for the company, which has gone through a pretty staggering number of changes over the last two and a half years that includes bookers coming and going, a two year stint on HDNet, frequent roster changes, and other such shakeups. This is bigger deal than all of those, one that will likely bring a lot of changes to the company, both positive and negative.

Let's start with the positives. First is the most obvious, that the company is now owned by a major corporation and will have a much higher level of financial backing than they ever have before. Cary Silkin did a lot of great things as owner of the company, and will remain with the company at a high level, but he's still one man and only had so much money to put into the product. We've seen in the past how other companies like WCW and TNA were able to go much further under corporate ownership than they ever would have had they remained with the original owners, and my first thought upon hearing about the sale was that if Sinclair Broadcasting sinks even a fraction of the money into ROH that Turner put into WCW, that sets them up to do a lot of great things they never would have been able to before.

Hopefully, this means that ROH can finally become a legitimate third place for wrestlers to make a good living outside of WWE and TNA. ROH, like ECW before it, has always had to deal with a steady cycle of people coming in for a few years before moving on to bigger money deals elsewhere. There's already talk about bringing in former WWE stars for their name value, and I'm hopeful that this means that guys who, because of their size or other factors may not be successful elsewhere, will have a chance to make a better living without having to move on.

Secondly, this purchase will mark the return of ROH to television, and broadcast TV at that as their new weekly show will air on the many stations around the country owned by Sinclair, beginning in September. Being carried on the Sinclair networks is huge because this will give them far better exposure than they ever would have gotten on HDNet, and one of the changes already being planned is production upgrades to improve the quality of the product for TV broadcast, but would presumably extend to non-televised DVD tapings as well. A lot of people were predicting doom for ROH after the HDNet seal ended, but I said at the time (and for years before) that at the very least, they could use the HDNet experience the same way TNA used the FSN deal: to build a history of producing weekly television so you have an existing TV product to shop around after the deal comes to an end, and ROH has done exactly that.

The acquisition could also lead to ROH running shows in new markets they hadn't previously had a regular presence in, since Sinclair owns stations in places like Baltimore, Nashville, Milwaukee, San Antonio, Tampa/St Petersburg, and Las Vegas. ROH had previously been mostly restricted to their main strongholds in the northeast and upper midwest and was leery of trying to go too far outside their comfort zone since they couldn't risk heavy financial losses if a new market didn't work out. This is no longer a concern, and I would expect them to start running regularly in Sinclair's home base of Maryland, and am reasonably certain we can expect them to try and dip into some of these other potential new markets.

But with the positives also come some potential negatives. The ROH roster and management team are both remaining intact and the word is that there won't be any major changes to the product just now, but the fact is that whenever a corporate buyout occurs, there is almost zero chance that everything's going to stay exactly the way it was. Cary's staying on board, but he's not the owner anymore and no longer has final say because the company now serves a different master. Hunter Johnston, Ross Abrams, and Syd Eick are all staying, but will now answer to Joe Koff from Sinclair, who will be assuming the role of COO of the company.

The good news is that Gary Juster will be coming on as Vice President of the company, and he has a very long history as a promoter for WCW and a lot of experience straddling the wrestling/ corporate line. Jim Cornette is getting more power in the company, and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in just about every aspect of the business with him, and will be a very valuable part of the team.

That said, we still don't know what kinds of changes we may be looking at going forward, and I would hope that the folks behind the wheel now will be able to steer the company away from another Jim Herd situation, but we won't know until we get there. Sinclair wants to bring in former WWE names that can work the ROH style, but we don't know if they're all going to be Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas types, or if they're also going to want some guys who aren't on that level athletically, but bring name value the same way SpikeTV wanted Sting and Kevin Nash because they had recognizable names even though they didn't bring as much to the table as everyone probably hoped.

Getting back to the TV side, Sinclair may own a lot of networks, but they're nowhere to be found in some pretty important places like New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago and Atlanta. In other words, ROH will have no television presence in nearly every major market in the country. Sinclair will supposedly try and get the show syndicated outside their sphere of influence, and the show will also be streamed online for anybody who can't get it on TV, but this isn't going to get their product on TV in much more than medium-sized markets right out of the gate.

For as tumultuous as Ring of Honor's history has been at times, this will prove to be a bigger game changer than anything in the past. At the end of the day, I consider this to be an overwhelmingly positive move for the company, and even though thete are some negatives, most are mitigated by things like streaming the series online for people who won't recieve the show on TV. There will be some growing pains and probably changes that will have hardcore fans tearing their hair out, but at the end of the day I'm feeling very confident about the future of Ring of Honor and am going to be interested to see how this all shakes out over the coming months.

The sale of ROH makes me wonder (and I'm sure some of you) if guys like AJ styles, somoa Joe and punk who have been badly manhandled by their respected companies will join ROH later on.

Lol Rey needs a crate.

It's nice to see that Randy is dearly missed by all his peers. It seems Randy really did go out of his way to give people good advice. You could can tell he took pride in his craft.

Ditto. That was the classiest thing Warrior has ever said and sounded like it came from the heart. Like I said a few days ago I was expecting an outpouring of respect to the Macho Man from all across the business and thats what happened. Savage deserves ever bit of it.

Today is also the 12th anniversary of Owen Harts death. Thank you for entertaining me and so many others Owen. You'll never be forgotten.

That goes for Randy Savage and every other wrestler thats passed away too. If there is an afterlife the greatest show of all time must be going on right now. RIP, guys.

I could see that happening, especially in Joe and AJ's case. I would also go after Jericho too, although he is loyal to WWE.

12 years, damn. Where has the time gone.

I think it's a testament to the kind of person Savage was that you haven't heard one person say something bad about him.

Fair play to the Warrior. When he wants to he can come across as a guy that is very together. I may not like the guy over some of the stupid things he's said over the years but he seems at peace with himself. It's nice to see that as I don't think the same can be said for many of his peers.

Read the results for OTL, sounded typical. Back down the ladder Christian goes

Cena hit the 5 moves of doom early in the match. Then after that, and Miz regathered himself, Cena got irish whipped into an exposed steel barrier, bashed in the face with a TV monitor, bashed in the head with the steel steps, DDT'd into the steel steps, head smashed again with the steel steps while his head was on the other steel steps, beaten repeatedly with a kendo stick, suplexed onto the steel ramp / stage, kicked in the head and knocked off of the stage, held down on a camera crane and beaten repeatedly with a leather belt, bashed with a steel chair, received a Skull Crushing Finale into a steel chair, and trapped in the earlier exposed ring barrier and beaten repeatedly with a steel chair.

As soon as the ref found the video recorder, Cena had a small amount of time while the ref reversed his decision, got out of the barrier, and now fully healed whipped Miz a couple times with a leather belt, AA'd Alex Riley through the announce table, and chased Miz all the way up the ramp, grabbed him, brought him back out and put him in the **** on the entrance ramp, making Miz quit.

It wasn't a "comeback", it was a "forget all that beating that I just took so I can hulk out and superhero my way into victory", meanwhile making Miz give up at the first sign of trouble - the same Miz who has been built up recently as a guy who kicks out of the AA, fights through the **** and doesn't tap, and takes concussions and bad suplexes and still trucks on.

Commentators:"it apears Miz has proceeded to stab Cena with a knife repeatedly"

Ref"john do give up?"

Cena:"sigh*....nope"

I think it's a testament to the kind of person Savage was that you haven't heard one person say something bad about him.

I'm a huge Savage fan...but lets be honest...when Nixon died you didnt hear a bad word about him for a week...

This is the worst ppv of the year so far.
