OMG The Little Mermaid first day sales: 1.6 million units!

Does anyone know why Disney only releases movies for a limited time?

so that all buy at once

Thats greatness, it has be my favorite disney movie.

And they are making a third movie...where we will be introduced to Aerials mother...

Is it possible for anything under the brand 'Disney' to NOT do well?

1.6 million in one day? That's impressive because it's a classic, yet it's still so. . . dated.

I can still understand that because it's a great kid's film, but I kinda need someone to explain to me how X3 did so well on dvd?:( :o

Fun Fact: The Little Mermaid was the last Disney film to have hand painted cells.

Ok, not really THAT fun, but you know.......

Little Mermaid pales in comparison to B&tB

Good question:o

I still have my VHS from 1990. Tempted to go get the DVD and see how they've "improved it" Little Mermaid is a great movie you can watch again and again.

And there's something about hand-painted cels, they just look more lively.
Like hand colored comics they just have more of a "soul" to them. It's like you can feel the artist putting themself into it.

Oh yeah and X3 did well on DVD because well, people are sheep.

This takes me back to when a friend once said, "Dude, I want to fornicate with Ariel". :woot:

I'm like, "Uh...alright. She's a cartoon."

Everyone must get this before it goes back in the Disney vault! Hurry up and buy! Hurry up and buy!

I feel like an idiot for missing the B&TB dvd while it was out.

but yeah 'Mermaid' is awsome

i bought my copy today, and got a free box of corn flakes with it... i hate corn flakes, though.

:(

I already have it on VHS and I'm too poor to go out and buy it again :(

This is great (and IMO better than B&TB) and I should buy it and Aladdin too (isn't that going back into the vault in the next few months?). I got Lion King and Lady and the Tramp luckily though.

my sister is dying for one copy! i dont loved the movie that much.. but what the heck.

This comes out next month and I am getting it, one of my fave Disney films.

Beauty & the Beast - the only animated movie that has been, and ever will be, nominated for Best Film at the Oscars.

Having said that, it's ridiculous that The Lion King, which many would argue is Disney's finest achievement, was not nominated.

Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid were the two best films of Disney's second animation Renaissance period (1989 through 1999, after which they started cranking out crap again like they did during the 1980s).

Lion King was very good, and the biggest moneymaker, but the show-tune elements seemed kind of contrived to me (along with the fact that the whole plot is basically lifted from Osamu Tezuka's Kimba the White Lion manga/anime from the 1960s).

Then of course we have today's wonderful Disney stuff like Home on the Range, Chicken Little and all those great direct-to-DVD sequels to much better Disney films.

Which was lifted from Hamlet.

I picked this DVD up earlier this week... For my sister that is :p Ahem.

Beauty and The Beast would've been a bajillion times better if The Beast slashed that mother****er's face off during the climactic battle.

Exactly, just because a story has been told before doesn't mean it can't be told well by someone else.
