As per the Mephisto thing...he really didn't GET anything out of the deal.
It made zero sense.

He got to alter history, change the present, (partially mindwipe) the entire marvel universe (heroes, villians, and regular joes) and created a new superhero to fight evil. (whether it is MJ or not, tho we know it IS.)

And he made an old lady live longer.

For all this...what did he GET out of it?? Anyone????

Isn't he the laughing stock of villians now?

Pete supposedly remembers in a part of his soul his marriage, tho he is written to show no sign of that.

Hmmnnn....

It's pretty obvious what he got... maybe you can read OMD again... :woot: :woot: :woot:

:oldrazz: :oldrazz:

:csad:

Welcome to the Marvel sliding timescale. Stuff like that happens all the time, like Reed Richards fighting in WWII or Iron Man's origin being set in Vietnam. Franklin Richards seemingly ages at about the same rate as Dick Clark.

I don't think it's that big of a deal, just an inherent oddity with Marvel continuity that needs to be accepted. Stuff like the aforementioned examples are typically ignored anyways.

With those characters (Reed and Tony), they just change which war they fought in. And that's fine. But I'm talking about aging one character while not aging another - either age everyone or don't age them at all.

Was it said somewhere else that he was now in his mid-twenties? Maybe that's how I arrived at 10 years

JQ specifically said Peter is about 25 now. Now, I'll go back to my original example of Kitty Pryde to show why this represents a problem. If we're to believe Peter is actually only 25, then he's only four years older than Kitty AT THE MOST. It's probably closer to three years or so. That means that an age gap of roughly 7-8 years between the two (as was presented back in 1980) has now shrunk to just a few years. How long before they're the same age? Until she's older? In 20 years, will Marvel expect us to swallow that the Young Avengers are the same age as Tony and the other veteran Avengers? That's the problem.

Mephisto is like the devil right. He granted Pete and Mjs wish to save aunt May as long as they gave up each other. I think it would be great if aunt May turned out to be a skrull. Since the devil likes to screw with people. Having Pete having to give up everything for someone who wasn't his aunt would be a great F-U to people.

I'm calling it now: ASM #666 will be when Mephisto lays his cards on the table.

There's obviously a bigger scheme in the works. OMD may have been the first time he appeared to Spider-Man (was it?), but he's been involved with Spidey as recently as the Unmasking, where he resurrected Beck and used him, Miss Arrow, and Spidey as pawns in some (as of yet) unknown plan.

That would be pretty cool actually since AFAIK they never followed up on Beck's ressurection.

Plus, there was that old woman who Mephisto transformed into (in OMD) and said something like "she is a story for another time."

they've played that hand before.

I've got it!!! Norman's been DEAD!!! Mephisto's been playing as Norman all these years (post clone Saga) trying to shift Peter's soul towards the dark side... then he'll have old Aunt May die from a heart attack ir something, then Peter will be in enough dispair to give himself willingly to Mephisto or some wacky **** and Reboot the entire 616... AF#15 all over again...

Wether there's a new hero on earth to fight evil would not matter to Mephisto. The evil that mortals do dont matter to him all that much.

He's more about twisting someone soul into doing evil things and that is what he did to Pete.

And yes there's a part of Pete's soul that remembers the love he lost.It doesnt really matter wether his concious of it......his soul knows something is missing and will be toutured for ever.

What about if Aunt May is a skrull? :)
Peter will find out he's given his marriage for a skull...

Not really. Thanks to BND, SI technically isn't supposed to happen until a great deal of time later.

Peter has attended his 10 year high school reunion. The guy is AT LEAST 28 - 29 yrs-old.

"New" reality:
ALMOST 30 and living with his elderly aunt... broke and riding a bicycle... incapable of honesty or a commitment with the girl he loves... but apparently ok with just shacking-up with her...

Does he look YOUNGER now? Or just more pathetic.

:(

I got a brother like Pete....we don't like to talk about him much :csad:

Dude, I read the whole thing (OMD) on Friday for the first time, and that was the first thing that came to my mind: All this bad writting to make Spidey cooler, for new readers, and he becomes a super loser?

BTW, about the age issue, and Marvel Time, I remember someone saying, like 10 or 15 years ago, that in Marvel time 10 years have been passed since Fantastic Four #1. Ok, not canon, just an interview, but it/s something. Again, that was 10-15 years ago...

Captivated:

Yeh...This new alternate reality Pete honestly does come across as a creepy old loser now. Someone you wouldn't trust your kids around. (I never thought I'd be saying that about pete, but sheesh...they've made him into a loser.)

And knowing that he gave his marriage to the devil makes him selfish and dopey on top of that....just my opinion from a happily married guy...who wouldn't trade past, present and FUTURE with my wife for any of my (very loved) elderly relatives.

I just read an article on the front page of Yahoo that fans are pissed about the marriage being erased.

And rightfully so.

I used to read Spidey but I'm done. Quesada and what's his name are idiots.

Quesada has done the dumbest crap to Marvel.

How dumb do they think people are? Let alone the loyal fans.

You do not just erase that.

The idiot said the reason was the story had gotten too confusing. How the hell was his marriage confusing?! If anything was confusing it was the crap stories they've made up in Spidey and the rest of the Marvel universe.

This is not the Marvel I knew, and I'm done.
