Exactly. But I wouldn't hold it against dent for being angry and lashing out.
...especially considering Dent doesn't have a history of being someone of sound mind - not when his loved ones or justice is at stake, anyway.

Keys, I think Batman meant that the Joker wasn't there when Gordon and Dent arrived. I know, because I read it the same way you did the first time.

Actually, I was going by Peter Parker's Joker posts, AND my conversations on MSN with him, where he indeed said that The Joker had never been to the ward, and was still many miles away in New York. :woot:

"See, Harvey. The problem with this phone call isn't that it's me calling you. No, the problem, ya see, is that I called you under false pretenses. I called you looking for Gilda, when I know exactly where she is. She's right next to me."

I snicker, looking around my office in the warehouse, two hours away from Dent's squeeze.

"I'd put her on, but she's a little busy with that pesky 'coma' business."

I thought it'd be best to have Harvey bring that possibility up to Batman, to help clear up any ambiguity.

Character you would like to play: Salvatore "Boss" Maroni

Powers: None

Brief biography of the character's history:
The Maroni family has quite a history in Gotham. For several generations in the past, the Maroni family ruled Gotham's underworld with an iron fist. But Carmine Falcone changed all that. Falcone - and the army that rallied behind him - were able to overthrow the Maroni dynasty, and establish primary control of Gotham. Under the terms of his surrender, Luigi "Big Lou" Maroni - Gotham's deposed crime-baron - left Gotham, and now lives in seclusive retirement outside of Gotham. Meanwhile, his son - Sal Maroni, better known as Boss Maroni - was allowed to keep a slice of territory in Gotham, including several legitimate businesses, primarily the family restaurant, Maroni's.

Despite the brokered "peace" of recent years, hatred continues to simmer between Falcone and the younger Maroni, who feels Falcone has what he is entitled to by birthright. But neither man can make a move on the other. Falcone has all the right connections within Gotham's infrastructure. Maroni is friends with the highly powerful Wilson Fisk, and has connections in Fisk's New York network. And so the unsteady truce remains in place. For now...

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character:
I played Maroni as an NPC for most of last season, so I'm familiar with the character. This season, the character will be playing a significant role, and considering my other character, I think you can guess what this role might be...

What can you bring to this game?:
Transvestitism

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech:
DarkSlateGray

All things considered, things hadn't gone exactly to plan for Boss Maroni. He thought he had it all under control. He'd taken charge of dealing with this Harvey Dent situation, and he thought he had that smarmy punk by the balls. But Dent had turned the whole thing round on his head, and now it was him whose nuts were in a vice. If bribery didn't work, and coercion didn't work, there was a more permanent way of dealing with his Harvey Dent problem...

But for now, he had to fix this current mess. Falcone had asked him - as a favor in exchange for his protection after The Joker attacked his restaurant - to make sure Harvey Dent kept his mouth shut. And he'd failed. He didn't need Falcone's protection anymore. He'd recruited new guys, and already work was being done to renovate his restaurant, it'd be ready for re-opening soon. But that wasn't the point. The point was that he'd told Falcone he'd do this for him. Failing to do so made him look weak, made him look unreliable. He needed to think of a way to take back control.

And so he'd called an emergency meeting with Crane, out here at Gotham Bay. Maroni paced back and forth uneasily, waiting for Crane to show up. As he looked anxiously out at the restless waves, and the grim silhouette of Blackgate Prison out in the distance, he was distrurbed by the ringing of his cell-phone. It was Falcone.

"Hey, I was gonna call you about today. Look, I'm goin' outta my mind here..."

"Shut up. I requested your services on a business venture, and it has turned into a complete disaster...for both of us!"

Business venture...Falcone was too wary to even mention Dent, in case his phone was tapped. What did he think Maroni was, a rat? Of course. Falcone thought everyone was a rat. Fisk was the same way. You have to be paranoid to stay on top for as long as they have.

"Look, I can still make this right..."

"Too late. I made this simple request, and your client proved to be too much for you to handle. Forget it. Now I know you can't be depended on to get a job done, so now I'll take my offers elsewhere..."

"Oh c'mon!"

"Don't interrupt me. I'm insulating myself. I'm cutting you off. Do whatever the hell you want to clean up this mess you've made, but I want nothing to do with it. I wash my hands of it."

Before Maroni could reply, Falcone hung up. Letting out a string of expletives, Maroni slammed the phone down into the sand. He turned round, and let out a small yelp of shock to find Jonathan Crane standing right behind him.

"Damnit Crane! You scared the hell outta me!"

"I tend to have that effect on people," he replied with a sly smirk.

"You're late."

"I had to get a cab. Do you know how much it cost to get a cab all the way out here? I hope you'll be adding that to my expenses."

Maroni gave Crane a dismissive wave of his hand, resuming his pacing.

"I'm guessing you watched the parade too, then."

Maroni nodded.

"How do you suggest we respond?"

"I'm thinking..."

He continued his pacing in silence, with Crane waiting expectantly. After a couple of minutes, Maroni stopped on the spot, and turned to Crane.

"You call Dent at his office..."

"Call him? The police will have his phones tapped by now, surely..."

"The cops? Their technology's from the stone-age. You keep the call quick, and they won't be able to get a lock on your location. You call Dent, and you make sure to mention you ain't got nothin' to do with me, or Falcone, you got it?"

"The way that sounds, I hope you forgive me for thinking it sounds suspiciously like you're setting me up for a fall."

"Oh grow up, kid. It's a precaution. If you are caught, everyone's gonna know you work for me. Of course I'm gonna cut my ties with you, make it out like you're some nut from Arkham who I tried to help out, but you went off the rails and decided to go nutso on his wife. And if you get caught, that's the story you're gonna use."

"What's in it for me?"

"Simple. If it looks like you were workin' for me, you get charged as takin' part in organised crime. That's a prison sentence, and you're sharin' a cell with some 7 foot tall black guy who wants you to hold his pocket and call him Daddy. You go the lone wacko route, and it's back to Arkham, and a nice, cushy, padded cell, with all your psychologist friends, and a day filled with therapy and group hugs. You see what's in it for you now?"

Crane merely nodded.

"Good. Where's the wife now?"

"I've left The Kingpin's man watching her. We've got her in an apartment in The Narrows."

"Right, I want you to go back there to call Dent. He's gonna want to hear her voice, so he knows she's alive. And here's what I want you to tell him..."

If the new mayor of Gotham's already been given a name, let me know and I'll edit.

I think she was only NPC'd in the first season.

Although she might have helped fight Galactus last season. Can't remember.

Ah, okay. *grumbles about missing Galactus* So her basic origin is the same as it is in the DCU?

Yes. Although her mother was a member of the JSA back in the old days. And she dated Captain America in the first season. Don't know if that's still going on.

Thanks for the information, wiegeabo.

"One Universe" RPG SEASON III SIGN-UP FORM

Screen Name:
EclipsedHero

Character you would like to play: Princess Diana of Themyscira, Wonder Woman

Powers: As an Amazonian and the daughter of the original Wonder Woman, Diana possesses superstrength, superspeed, enhanced durability, reflexes, and stamina, regenerative capabilities, and flight. She also utilises an array of mystical weaponry, most commonly a pair of indestructible bracelets that adorn each wrist and the unbreakable Lasso of Truth.

Brief biography of the character's history: The daughter of the Amazon queen, Hippolyta, Diana was born into a great legacy as the princess of Themyscira and the heiress to the mantle of Wonder Woman. Granted superhuman attributes beyond even her fellows by the Olympian gods, she donned the iconic costume that her mother had worn throughout the Second World War and became Themyscira's representative to Man's World. She formed a relationship with Captain America in the early stages of her superhero career, and has since been involved in several major battles (including a clash with Galactus).

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: Marvel's Big Three (Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor) are all being played, and Diana will round out DC's. She is my favourite superheroine and there are tons of opportunities for her in a joint universe like this.

What can you bring to this game?: A literate RPer and hopefully some entertaining storylines/characterisation.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Palatino Linotype, red, bold.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Once or twice.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 5 paragraphs long and contain at least 3 line of dialogue):

Explosions tore through the streets of New York City, polluting the skyline with mushroom clouds of blackened smog, as sirens added their own shrill cries to the bustling confusion. Her hardened gaze settled on the chaos below, Diana hung motionless in the air, her lips pursed in disgust and frustration. Her countenance was grim, her hands clutched into tight fists that seemed to emanate raw power. The concrete abyss over which she was soaring had been plunged into chaos and bedlam several minutes ago, with flustered civilians fleeing the plumes of flame that jetted up from the pavement. Clad in her familiar red-and-gold attire, Diana had chosen not to intervene...

...because something was wrong. All was not as it should have been. Destruction was abounding naturally enough, with miniature infernos emblazoning their trail into the ground. For such an unexplained catastrophe, the situation seemed relatively normal. But Diana could feel something, as though reality itself was bending around her. Themyscira was no stranger to the mystical arts, and she had been attuned enough to life itself to know that the scene before her was out of place. Her eyes narrowed as she ground her teeth in irritation; incredulity would help no-one if she could not focus her suspicion. In the absence of firm evidence, she only had one option.

Without a moment's hesitation despite her doubts, Diana slipped into a swift descent, hurtling towards the bleak area with a muted urgency. Levelling out at the peak of a towering skyscraper, she accelerated, weaving in and out of artifical spires as she sped towards the epicentre of the disturbance. If she was to find answers, that would be where. With an experience with belied description, she dropped to the floor, which was ashen and pitted. The immediate vicinity was oddly clear of bystanders; they had all undoubtedly fled in the face of the danger, a reaction that was understandable but rather contrasting to the prospective retaliation of her Amazon sisters.

BLAM!

The abrupt blast shattered her thoughts and, driven by instinct, she span into a defensive posture. A single bullet ricocheted off her raised bracelet, embedding itself into the face of a building. Diana could discern a solitary figure through the smoky haze, a slender female gripping the firearm that was still pulsing with heat from the ambush. The Themysciran princess remained silent and stationary, awaiting her enigmatic opponent's next move. She did not have to wait long. The woman leapt to the side, hurling herself into a sidewards roll and unleashing a barrage of metallic slugs; Diana slipped aside, allowing the projectiles to swipe past her and snapping the Lasso of Truth upwards from her belt.

"Blast it!" the other cursed as she landed in a crouch, revealing blue-hued skin and a shock of red hair. "Wyngarde, you're up!"

Before Diana could ensnare her crimson-locked foe, a second assailant had shimmered into view.

"What in Hera's name --?" Diana demanded, before her world was turned upside down.
