OOC: No prob.It's what I/Supes would've done anyway.

IC: Superman

I look at the being who calls himself 'Darkseid'.He's offering me a choice.Neither of which I plan on considering anytime soon.

If he think's he'll be able to intimidate me and the earth that easily,He's heavily underestimated us all.

I look him straight in the red glowing eyes,and show no fear.

"How about the third option,where I tell you to take your buisness elsewhere,and you comply,before I turn your ship into a playtoy."

Darkseid laughed. It was cold, hollow, and dead laughter.

"If you will not be my knight, Superman," he said, a smile crossing his face, "Then you will be my pawn."

Once again, Darkseid vanished using the power of the Omega Effect to teleport him to the bridge of his command ship. Parademons had begun filling the skies over Star City. He knew the Deep Six were eager for battle, but their haste risked it all. No matter. Nothing on this planet could stop him.

He sent out a telepathic command, and the vast, black doors on his command ship swung open. Parademons swarmed out of their readying bays, shock poles and beta clubs grasped in clawed hands. Massive golden beams shot down from five teleport tubes on the bottom of the ship, and the flame tanks began rolling down the streets of New York, incinerating flesh and steel with equal ease with their massive gouts of fire.

The conquest of Earth had truly begun.

“…believe it?!” Dinah laughed and took another bite of her salad as I smiled and took a sip of wine.

She was something unique to find at these functions. Neither old or a pretty airhead, her feet were planted firmly on the ground and I enjoyed conversing with her.

“You’re young to be tied down.” I motion with a slender finger that the diamond ring on her finger.
She looks down and touches it with her fingers before hiding the hand on her lap, under the table.

“I might not be as tied down as some people think.”

Dinah shifted uncomfortably, Selina and her had been able to visit more freely than anyone else at the party and Dinah had invited Selina to sit with her during dinner. Selina’s comment about her engagement created a pause in the conversation.
All around the room the gentle hum of level voices and sedated laughter filtered in the calm collect air.

Dinah sighed, this wasn’t the life for her, as much as she enjoyed the status she didn’t enjoy the appearances it entailed, like Tony did…

BANG

Dinah turned in her chair and looked towards the front of the room, the doors were thrown open and a figure stood in them, his arms out on either side. Dinah gasped and brought her hand to her mouth, the large diamond reflecting the light.

“Well, look what the cat drug in.” Selina drawled from behind her.

A man in a tux hurried towards the man as the whole room went from instant silence to quiet tittering and head nods in the mans direction. The head waiter in tux moved for him and the man shrugged him off and pushed him away, urgency apparent in his actions.

"DINAH!?”

Dinah sinks down into her chair, her right hand grasping the chair back, her left elbow on top of the chair back and her right hand over her eyes.

“Kill me now….”

~~~~~~~~~~`
I tilt my head and look to the door as they bang open, Dinah turns in her seat, her hand to her mouth in a silent gasp of mortification I should guess. The large doors bounce against the wall, making a double thump sound on the gilded walls.
I pick up my wine glass and swirl the burgundy liquid around.
“Well, look what the cat drug in.”
I take a sip and watch, the large doors, swing back and forth.
Tony Stark stands at the door, a bit disheveled and more than a little preoccupied.
Interesting, men don’t normally come after women like this, especially handsome multi-millionaires who can get whom ever they want. And why the hurry? I swish the wine around in my mouth as he pushes a man away from him and scans the crowded room which ripples of murmurs float across.
This is front page for the gossip columns tomorrow. Holly’s going to love the scoop.
Dinah stood up and she could see Tony’s visible relief, he moved towards her quickly-
BOOM
The glass ceiling shattered and Dinah ducked and rolled under the table in silence, not missing a beat. Screams mingled with the sound of shattering glass and pierced her still ringing ears. In a second it was over, glass lay across the floor glinting in the dull lights.
The light bulb glass blew casting the room into darkness, lit only by the candles along the wall.
"DINAH!” Tony’s voice was closer, yet the decimal level of the explosion...or was it an explosion, left Dinah hard of hearing.
“TONY!” Dinah crawled out from under the table, mindful of the glass that lay across the floor and table clothes.
"Dinah, thank...” The rest of what he said was lost to her as he grabbed her and held her.
Dinah wrinkled her nose and pushed him away.
“You’ve been drinking!” She exclaimed, her fear and anger coming out in a moment of extreme stress, in a very different way.
He looked at her in shock, before grabbing her arm and dragging her towards the door.
Dinah looked around for the first time. The wine glasses in tiny shards on the tables, red wine stained the table clothes and puddle on the floor mingling with human blood. A few people had rise, glass sticking out of their skin and blood running in veins off them. People on the floor and the glass like glistening ice, coating them. In her shock Dinah noticed the plates had also shattered and food lay lose on the table.
Dinah pulled herself from Tony and went over to an elderly woman who stood in shock, her arms our at her sides and glass stick in her arms, neck, shoulder and face like iced porcupine quills.
“Ma’am? Just stay calm, take a couple of breaths.” Dinah held her hands out hovering in a touching position. Out of the corner of her eye she could see an older man help Selina up from under their table, where she too had taken residence.
“No, sir pleas don’t move..” Dinah called to a man trying to pluck the glass from the back of his neck. The men looked like they’d gotten the better end of the deal, their long coat sleeved protecting their body in limited amounts.
She felt Tony’s hand on her arm again as he pulled her away.
“Tony no! We have to help them!”
"There isn’t time.”
She tried to pull away, why was he doing this? he was the “hero” after all.
He pulled her to the doorway and marched through the large dark hallway, his feet crunching on the glass. Dinah looked up at the formerly glass skylight and smiled…now it really was a skylight.
She made her face go serious, knowing that her reactions were due to stress. How odd, now she knew that she joked during stressful times.
“Ouch!” She pulled on Tony’s arm making him stop as she bent over and lifted her foot, a small shard of glass had made its way up over her thin soled and opened high heel shoes. A small rivelet of blood came from her foot. She moved her hand to remove it but gasped as Tony picked her up.
"No time for that.”
She looked at him reproachfully as he moved quickly through the dark Museum and out onto the street. The street lights had blow, small piles of glass on the ground under each one. Tony set her down and she spun around, realizing for the first time the amount of glass humans used. Every car, every window, all shattered. Spinning on Tony she demanded.
“Tony! What’s going on? What happened? Why is there no time? What’s happening? What’s coming?” His eyes are looking far off and he seems distant.
Dinah grabs his shoulders, her blonde hair standing out in the darkness and the soft breeze blowing it over her face.
“Tony..” she pleaded.
"It’s going to be alright Dinah. I promise.” She noticed he quickly pressed a button, before giving her a kiss and gentle pushing her away. Her through her diminished hearing she could hear screams and yells all over the city. But one thing glared out in silence. Where there would have been police, fire and ambulance sirens only silence followed.
Dinah turned back to Tony only her eyes went wider, armor seemed to float to him. Forming it’s self on him until he stood there….Iron Man.
He held out his arm to her.
"Dinah.” His voice muffled and tinny sounding it came as more of a question, not a demand.
She struggled internally, her mind still processing what had happened and who he was. She bowed her head and grasped her hands to it, her fingers digging into her hair. Why? What had happened? What was going on? Mother… She was tough, she’d be okay She was the Black Canary. Worry about yourself Dinah.
She felt something cold and hard go around her waist. Looking up she stared at the expressionless gold helmet.
"Hold on.” He picked her up.
She wrapped her arms around his neck…or where his neck was underneath the metal and felt his grip on her tighten. She felt herself being lifted into the air gently, her eyes went wide and she looked down, they were high over the city, a flower fell from her hair, it’s creamy whiteness reflecting the light of the moon before it was swallowed up in the darkness and chaos below.
"Here we go.”
IC: Green Arrow
Star City was a warzone. He didn't know what was going on any more. The police and gangs had barricaded various buildings around the city, but against the onslaught of these golden monsters, he didn't know how long they could hold out. Where was the military? Of course, the damn military-industrial complex doesn't show when you need it the most. He notched another arrow, and let fly.
He'd discovered fairly quickly that normal arrows didn't break the skin of these... whatever the hell they were. But everything has a vulnerable point. Everything. Luckily for him, the eyes and mouth were still squishy enough to hurt.
He stood surveying the area from the rooftop of a five story apartment building. People were clustering around gun shops and doing their best, but it wasn't enough. More of the monsters poured from the ship overhead. If only there was some way to get on there...
He was suddenly left without time to think. Twelve of them landed around him. He took a glance around him. Yep, completely surrounded. He grabbed an arrow from his quiver, and slung his bow across his back.
"I learned to use a bow because I didn't like killing with my hands. But for you sons of *****es? I'll make an exception."
A yell erupted from him, and he charged the nearest monster. Spinning the arrow in his hand, he impaled it into the thing's eye, shattering the goggle covering it. He ripped it out, and a horrible scream of pain left the monster's lips. He kicked it off the rooftop of the building. He turned and faced the others who were hissing and frothing at him. As one, they leapt at him. He was good, but he wasn't good enough to kill all of them. He was done.
Gunfire blew through the chaos. The things were scythed in half before they reached him. He looked up, and saw a police helicopter hovering above him, the barrels of the minigun mounted on it still swirling.
"Hey hero, need a ride?" boomed a voice from the helicopter.
"Only if you're headed up!"
"I think that can be arranged."
The side of the helicopter opened up, revealing a packed group of heavily armored cops. Normally, he'd be hesitant to be around that many heavily armed cops, but war made for strange allies. The helicopter hovered down to roof level, and Ollie leapt in. The faces of the policemen were obscured, but he saw one bearing the rank of a captain.
"You wanna tell me what's going on, Captain? We really gonna hit that ship up there?"
"Hard as we can, Arrow. Don't be surprised that I know who you are, word spreads quick along the blue wall."
"Fine. You boys got anything like a plan of attack?"
"They hit the police stations first, took out a lot of good men. We figure we can make it in and do some damage in return."
"Good enough for me."
I ducked and covered the instant I heard the boom and shattering of glass, ducking under the table I meet Dinah again.
The girl had equally fast reflexes. In seconds the sound of falling glass had stopped and the screams and yells of shock turned to moans of pain. I watched as Tony Stark crunched across the glass, his eyes frantic as he called Dinah’s name again.
“Selina?” I turned at my name and saw Slam Bradley coming to my table. He was unharmed except for a few shards of glass that had cut into his left coat sleeve, the fabric darkened with blood. He held his hand out and helped me up and I glanced over my shoulder at Dinah as Tony pulled her from the room into the hallway.
“What happened?” I ask.
He shakes his head.
“I don’t know, it wasn’t a bomb though.” He pulls his sports jacket back and checks his gun.
“You think it’s a solitary incident?” I ask
He points to ear connection he’d taken from his ear, it’s clear twisty cord dangling loose.
“This thing went crazy with activity after it happened. It’s all over the city.”
I gasp. Holly….I turn and try to walk quickly over the broken glass, trying to avert my eyes from the blood which ran down most peoples faces.
“Selina! Wait.” I keep walked as he quickly walks to me, his large shoes crunching the glass behind me. I quickly go through the hallway, stepping in the footsteps of Dinah and Tony and quickly reach the outside door.
“Selina!” I pause my hand on the door and turn around.
“You shouldn’t go out there, there could be riots and mobs.”
I motion back towards the hallway and thus the dining room.
“If the majority of the populace looks like that then I doubt they’ll be in a riotous mood.”
I can see him figuring quickly in his mind.
“Then I’ll come half way with you. I have to get back to the station.”
“What about those people?”
“Most of us on security detail are safe and I think they can control a shocked crowd of pre-geriatric rich people.”
I smile and push the door open, stepping into the cool night air. Slam had just stepped out himself when the sky lit up. I threw my arm over my eyes and crouched down allowing my eyes to adjust to the change of light.
“My Go…”
I look up and gasp.
A large vortex, looking like a hurricane is hovering over the city, power crackling around it, causing the lights and out of what would have been the eye of the hurricane emerges slender ships of some kind.
I look at Slam, he’s dropped his hand from his eyes and stands there staring up, his hands on his hip and his cigarette loose in his mouth as his face betrays awe and confusion.
I bring my gaze back to earth and look across at the buildings with one thing on my mind.
Holly.
I take off running.
“Selina! WAIT!”
I keep running, leaving the high society of Gotham behind me I soon find myself in familiar territory. The East End, I dodge in and out of familiar alley’s avoiding human contact as much as possible. My feet ache from running in the boots and in my haste for more leg movement I tear the lower half of my skirt off as I run, tossing it aside.
I emerge from an alley onto our street and look around, piles of broken glass lay underneath the street and traffic lights, while glass glitters on the ground from broken windows. Yet the glowing energy in the sky lights up city with an eerie dim glow. People swarm the street, blood on more than a few, all of them staring up at the sky, pointing questions flying through the air.
“What the ****?!”
“What is it?”
“Aliens man…It’s like Independence Day.”
I push open the door to the apartment building and barrel up the stairs.
“HOLLY! HOLLY!” I bang the door to the apartment open, it bounces back from the wall with a bang.
“Holly!”
“I’m here.” a small voice comes from behind the sofa.
“Oh, thank..” I call racing around to the other side, stopping in my tracks.
Holly crouched down on her knees, my eyes had already done a once over of her, no blood ran over her body in any place, no glinting slivers of glass were imbedded in her.
What stopped me from grabbing her was the blood on her hands.
Holly’s elbows were tucked at her sides, however the forms of two bloodied kittens lay in her hands, as if she was offering up a blood sacrifice to a greater being. Blood dripped from the red matted fur and off her hands onto the carpet. She turned her face to me her cheeks encrusted with dried tears as fresh ones still ran from her red eyes.
Pcolor=pink] “Selina…”[/color] She says, her face straight and eyes appealing as she looks up at me.
I slowly walk to her, Isis runs towards me and brushes against my leg the rest of the remaining kittens are huddled against Holly’s legs in fear.
I kneel down and gently take the dead kittens from her hands as she sobs, placing the kittens in the small puddle of blood they lay in I grab a blanket from off the sofa and wipe Holly’s and mine hands off as good as I can before hugging her, cradling her head in my shoulder.
“Shhh…shhh...let it out…”
Minutes go by before she pulls away and wipes her eyes with the sleeve of her shirt.
“What’s going on?”
I stand, the kittens swarming around me like tiny little earthbound bees, and look out the window. The large ship is still there, and large beings were flying from it, I squinted my eyes trying to focus. They were humanoid, yet they looked bulky and large like something made out of rock and then coated with flesh.
I turn to Holly.
“Pack your bags.”
Within minutes they were over the New York Harbor. Dinah’s eyes had been trained on the sky as while they were taking off and were in the air, large vortex’s had settled over Gotham, and an even larger one over New York. Dinah watched as a slender ship emerged from the middle of the vortex over Gotham, sett;ing over the skyline. She swallowed hard. Mother…
A movement from Tony caused her to turn her gaze forward where she gasped.
A large black ship settled over New York, oppressing the very sky it hung in. Tony drops in altitude and Dinah can make out red symbols emblazed on the hull of the ship.
She tightens her grip on Tony as a platform holding a single person floats from the bottom of it and hovers over the city. Tony starts to dodge back and forth from building to building, careful to keep one between him and Dinah and the man.
A voice echoes across New York.
"People of the Earth, welcome to a new age! I am the herald of your new Lord and Master! Your governments have one hour to surrender sovereignty to Him. Who is He? Who is the Beginning and the End? Who is the Master of the Omega Force? Who is the Lord of Apokolips? WHO IS YOUR NEW GOD?"
Tony stops hovering behind a building Dinah recognizes as a Stark Enterprise building, he slowly gains altitude before reaching the roof landing on it he pulls Dinah behind the stair well building. Dinah peeks around it as the man on the platform’s voice fades.
A large man is standing behind him even at this distance Dinah can tell he’s about nine feet tall.
"Darkseid is."
Dinah turns to Tony, noticing that he’s busy opening the door. She turns back to watch the large...being, brushing her wayward hair away from her face as a few stray breezes managed to slip by the large encumbrance hanging over the city
A bright flash of blue and red caught her eye, she instantly recognized it for who it was.
Superman.
“What is he doing?” She asked as Tony grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her down the stairs.
“Dinah, come on!”
“Tony what is going on?” She demanded as he pulled her down the flight of stairs.
“It’s an invasion.”
“Why? Why are they invading us?” He pushed the door at the bottom of the stairs and pulled her through a level of desks and cubicles. The light filtering in through the once enclosed glass walls, now only pieces of glass remained around the edges.
Dinah stopped and moved her right arm to Tony’s elbow, pulling it making him stop.
“What?” He demanded.
Dinah stood there, her eyes wide and looking out of the open windows. She moved her finger to her mouth to “shush” him.
Had it been a figment of her imagination due to stress or had she really…
A large figure flew past the window.
Dinah pulled Tony behind one of the cubicle walls and they both peeked out. A group of figures flew by, their bulky bodies enclosed in armor, huge guns in their hands.
Dinah’s blue eyes went wide and she pressed her back to Tony’s chest.
He brought his hands to her shoulders and pulled her.
“Let’s go.”
They quickly moved through the level, the stripes of light illuminating them Tony pushed the door open and closed it behind them as Dinah looked down at the many flights of enclosed stairs. No way….no…Tony pushed her from behind and then slipped past her running down the stairs with relative ease considering the armor he wore.
She followed, her heels making dull sounds on the industrial carpeting. Her right hand skimmed the railing while her left held her dresses’ skirt away from her quickly moving legs.
She lost count of the number of flights they’d gone down, not even looking up from watching which step she was taking, she didn’t bother to look at the classy metal signs hanging next to each door, proclaiming what flight they were on.
Tony stopped and Dinah followed suit looking up from her feet and the floor for the first time. They were at the end of the stairs in front of a door only a little dissimilar from the other doors. Dinah noticed that this one was made with what looked like a slightly thicker metal, yet was painted the same cream color. A little code security pad was mounted on the wall next to it. Tony quickly pressed the numbers in and the door clicked open. Opening it he allowed Dinah in first.
Dinah stopped and looked around. They were in a long corridor lined with brushed metal. She looked questioningly at Tony as he brushed past heading for the other end of the corridor where Dinah could see was another door.
They soon reached it, this time it wasn’t painted, just a straight brushed metal door that seemed to blend into the wall. This time the security pad was fitted with biometric security measures and Dinah leaned against the wall to catch her breathe as Tony pulled a glove off and pressed his hand to it, allowing the blue light in the pad to scan it, while he typed in the code with the other hand.
Dinah took a breath, everything was moving so fast. She looked down at the slender watch on her wrist. Only 20 minutes had gone by. In that time she’d go through a large boom, had her now hero fiancé pick her up, flown to New York, witnessed an alien invasion in two cities, seen extra terrestrials for the first time as well as seen the underground tunnels of Stark Enterprises R&D division.
At least that’s what she thought it was. The door gave a muted click and Tony pushed it open shutting it behind them. This side of the door was similar to the other side only as Dinah stepped forward Tony held out an armored arm stopping her. Turning back to the wall Dinah saw another biometrics security pad. Removing his helmet he spoke his name.
“Tony Stark.” and leaned over, allowing a thin beam of light to scan his eye.
Dinah tilted her head and stared at his profile, a slight smile playing on her lips.
21 minutes, gonna have to add fell in love again to the list. He straightened up and was just about to place his helmet back on when Dinah threw her arms around his neck and kissed him.
His arms dropped and one snaked around her waist pulling her close to him. Dinah let the rush go to her head as her fingers went into his hair. He slowly pulled away, giving her a shock.
Tony was always the first one in and the last one out. She inwardly smirked at her double innuendo.
“I almost get blown up, I see my fiancé is a hero in armor no doubt, witness an alien invasion and discover that you have a secret hide-away under New York and you don’t give me a little time?”
“In a bit Dinah.”He stole another kiss before leading her through the corridor and to the other side where there was another door. Dinah crossed her arms and put her weight on one leg.
“So it’s scanned your hand and eye, what’s next your p..” She cut off as he placed his other hand on the square shaped green pad. The door slide open on it’s own.
He turned and gave her a sideways smile before stepping through it into the darkness.
“You wish.” He said as he disappeared into the darkness.
Dinah raised her eye and made a face.
“I think I deserve the pleasure of telling you to drop your pants.” She snipped before following him in.
She heard his laugh from the darkness, his laugh sounding dry and strained. The door slide shut behind her and the instant the line of light had disappeared in it’s closing the room lit up and so did Dinah’s eyes.
She found herself on a little platform with railing in front of her looking out over a tall room filled with equipment, boxes and tables full of mechanical devices, everything in tones of silver. She stepped forward and gripped the metal railing the room was huge, stretching out before her. Tony was down below her walking away he turned and smiled at her awe struck face as he continued past the machines and tables.
Dinah spun and hurried down the short flight of concrete stairs to her left and followed Tony. Her high heels clicking on the concrete floors. She slowed, looking at all the mechanical stuff lying on tables; the walls were adorned with various things, weapons and various other things she couldn’t even guess the usage for. She’d almost reached the end of the room when she stopped her eyes caught by a suit of armor, not unlike Tony’s the only difference was that this one was toned in silver and black instead of red and gold. But that wasn’t what stopped her. This suit was molded for the form of a woman.
“Dinah?”
She turned at his voice and continued one reaching the back wall of the room, where she found a small kitchenette, sofa, radio and flat-screen plasma TV. Off to her right in the corner of the room was what looked like a smaller enclosed room, the door of it hung open and Dinah could make out the corner of a bed and another door beyond that which she pegged as a bathroom.
“Thought you’d gotten lost in here.”
She gasped with pleasure as she felt un-armored arms encircle her from behind. Tony’s head came next to hers and he kissed her cheek before spinning her around to face him. He leaned over and kissed her gently on the lips.
“I’m sorry Dinah.” She smiled as he pulled away from her, a smile which quickly vanished as she remembered how he’d kept it a secret. She pushed him away.
“You better be! How could you? Why didn’t you tell me? I’m going to be your wife. Your wife!” She repeated for extra emphasis.
“Now you expect me to just accept that and let you fly off to fight Aliens? That is what you’re planning right?”
“I wanted to tell you, but I wanted to wait till the right time. I wasn’t even sure of it myself.”
Dinah shook her head holding her hands to it.
“I can’t...I can’t do this right now…I can’t. There are aliens…aliens out there attacking New York.”
“And everywhere else.”
“Of course...it would be that…” Dinah turned and threw her hands up, bringing them back to her side quickly.
“I have to go back out there Dinah.”
Tony’s soft voice caused her to turn, she looked at him, he had his arm leaned up against the wall, his hand in his pocket, his head down looking at the floor. She studied him, his white shirt still pressed against his chest from the suit. He looked up at her from under his perfect eyebrows and her heart leapt. When he looked at her that way…
“I know. I’ll just need a second to change.”
“You’re not coming.” He pushed off from the wall, his repentant compliance replaced with firmness.
Dinah looked at him levelly.
“Yes, I am”
He sighed and turned his back to her, the armor reforming it’s self on him.
“No Dinah, it’s not safe.”
“Oh and it’s safe for you?”
He pointed to himself now covered in gold and red armor except for his head.
“Right. That, I’m sure you have something here that I can wear and besides I’m not so helpless as you think. In fact I…”
“I don’t have time...” He stepped forward.
“So you’re just gonna leave me here….”
“I picked up some of your clothes from my...our house...”
“..Why you go off to fight who knows what…”
“..There’s food in the fridge...”
“..looking like something that belongs in a Gryffindor Dorm.”
He raised his eyebrow at her reference, making her blush red as for once in a long time she felt their age difference.
He leaned over and kissed her on the forehead.
“You’ll be safe if you stay here. This place is built like a bunker, except ten times better.”
His strong handsome face softened.
“Dinah, when you didn’t come back, I had to decide what was most important to me and I decided it was you. I don’t want to lose you.”
And he left.
Dinah stood there staring at the back of the gold and red suit as it disappeared into the contents of the room, only to emerge once again slowly as he marched up the far steps and then disappeared out the door.
She twisted her mouth around and made her way to the bedroom, which in stark contrast to the rest of the large warehoused size room was decorated tastefully in beiges and browns with splashes of red in the throw pillows and pictures. A small leather duffle bag lay at the end of the bed and Dinah picked it up setting it on the bed.
A small card was tied to it with ribbon. She opened it and read Tony’s scrawling handwriting.
Keep it safe for me.
I promise I’ll be there to receive it.
Tony
A plain gold wedding band they’d picked out together for him to receive on their wedding day was taped underneath the message.
Dinah bit her lip and ran her fingers over the ring before tearing it off the page. Placing the note card on the bed she took her thin gold chain off her neck and removed the pendant placing Tony’s future wedding band on it. She reattached it over her neck and let her hair down, touching her hand to the gold ring before opening the bag.
She wanted to change into something more comfortable, say a pair of jeans and t-shirt or blouse. She reached her hand in and made a face, pulling out a pair of fishnet tights.
She made a half turn towards the door and then looked back at them with disgust.
“Of all the..” She stopped in mid-sentence and her look at the fishnets changed from anger to a sly smile.
Very large purple men in green armor wearing jet packs fly out of the space **** as large metal tanks spewing flames ravage the streets.
Oh, that's just shiny.
I jump onto one of the tanks, dodging the flames it spews at me. I rip open the door, and yank the soldiers out of it. Several of the flying weirdos come after me. I grab ahold of the tank's controls and start blasting them. Suddenly, three of them come down through the hole I tore open.
"Afternoon, boys. How goes the corpsifyin' of the citizens of this fare city going?"
I leap up at them, punching them back up through the opening. I grab onto one of their backs as he flies around, trying to shake me off. I rip open the jet pack and start toying with the insides, ripping out wires and the like.
"Oohh, what does this do? And this? And this? Ooops. Oh well, I'm sure you didn't need that. Or that. Or that. Christ, do you even know how to fly this thing?"
We crash into the city street below. The purple guy, quite fortunately for me, breaks my fall. I get up and dust myself off, and then look up when I hear a buzzing sound. I see about ten of the purple guys zooming towards me.
"Oh wo de ma he ta de feng-kuang de wai-sheng dou!"
I grab the big stick thingy the purple guy laying beside me all unconscious and the like was holding, and jump up at the other purple guys. I jump from one to the other, smacking them with the stick thingy and kicking and punching when apropriate. I hit one of their jet packs with the stick thingy, and my spider sense goes off like a bomb.
"Oh joy."
I jump back top the ground as the jet pack explodes. Most of the purple guys get knocked onto the ground. Most of thgem aren't moving, so I should best be getting out of here before thet start again. I yank one of the non-damaged jet packs and another one of the stick thingies. After some fiddling, I get the jet pack to work and fly (very badly) up towards the mother ship. I need to find out what exactly is going on.
There's nothing about this plan that isn't horrific.
We have been in the sewers for days now, getting used to what we are. Then we heard that message, and had to come up. We are on a rooftop right now, watching Spider-Man fighting creatures that came out of the ship that seems to fill the sky. We watch him fly awkwardly with one of the jet packs. Not time for him to see us yet...
We jump off of the building, landing on one of the flying men, our weight forces him down, crushing him into the ground. We smile again, pleased with our kill. Then we look around at the dozens of others in the immediate area, half of them heading for us. We brace ourselves, and the first slams into us, and we go flying into the building behind.
The suit wraps itself around our oppenent, and begins crushing him as we pick ourselves back up off of the ground. We hurl ourslves towards the oncoming armoured invaders, and grab two of them as we go passed them. We smash their heads off of each other, again and again. Until they finally drop to the ground. More are flying towards us. We know we can't keep this up, we can never beat them all.
But we're not going to stop trying. Tenrdrils whip out of the suit, hitting two of them and sending them into a spin. We grab another, and slam him into another building. He collapses to the ground, a small amount of rubble falling on top of him. We slam into it too, getting knocked into it from another one that flew up behind us. We manage to dig our claws into the building, and begin to scale the wall, leaping from side to side - no doubt inside their terrified at the crashing noises - or they would be if something alien wasn't just invading...
They keep attacking, we try our best to ignore it. We reach the top, a tendril whips out, attatching itself to the opposite building, and we reel ourselves over to it. We take a run and a jump, soaring through the air and landing with a crash on yet another building. We see tanks on the streets below us. No time to deal with that. If we're going to help, we're going to have to find our enemies.
*
We reach it at last. The Baxter Building, where the Fantastic Four like to hang out and think up new ways to save the world. We want them dead, it's what we were always meant to do. But they wont be around for us to kill if they die in this. We leap onto the Baxter building, digging our claws in, and begin to climb it.
IC: Darkseid
The conquest went smoothly. The ship above Moscow had been attacked, viciously, by a barrage of nuclear fire. Darkseid had been surprised that the humans posessed such technological advancement, but their weapons were far too simple to even scratch the hull of any of his fleet.
Star City had become a killing ground, the humans there offering up resistance. Odd, thought the Lord of Apokolips, I had not expected to see such mettle in that city. Battle still raged across the world. Unexpectedly, costumed champions had emerged in cities and countries where they'd been undected before. In the land known as Canada, a group of superpowered beings were holding off Godfrey's forces. A man wearing the flag of Britain was seen flying and fighting in the skies above England. Yet more costumed champions rose against the invasion across the world. It was as if these warriors were the planet's antibodies, fighting against Darkseid's forces.
It did not matter, of course. Nothing on Earth could stop the forces of Apokolips, of that he was sure. Even now, thirteen divisions of Parademons led by the Female Furies attacked and destroyed Magneto's Asteroid M and Genosha. The only possible threats to his invasion had been nullified.
He sat upon his command throne and observed the destruction of Earth. He could have accomplished such a feat himself, if he desired, razing each city one by one. But that was not the way he went about conquests. He was more than powerful enough to do whatever he wished, even conquer the galaxy if he desired it so. But conquests were not made by a single being, no matter how powerful. Empires and legacies were not established by one being, no matter how immortal. Darkseid was determined that the galaxy would know, remember, and fear his name for all time. Forever, creation woud know order and unification under his will.
As I clumbsily fly up into the air, I see that Superman guy floating in front of the big black ship. I head over towards him.
"Hi there, blue boy. Don't mean to be rude, but what the hell's going on?"
LibrarianThorne said:
Darkseid laughed. It was cold, hollow, and dead laughter.
"If you will not be my knight, Superman," he said, a smile crossing his face, "Then you will be my pawn."
Once again, Darkseid vanished using the power of the Omega Effect to teleport him to the bridge of his command ship. Parademons had begun filling the skies over Star City. He knew the Deep Six were eager for battle, but their haste risked it all. No matter. Nothing on this planet could stop him.
He sent out a telepathic command, and the vast, black doors on his command ship swung open. Parademons swarmed out of their readying bays, shock poles and beta clubs grasped in clawed hands. Massive golden beams shot down from five teleport tubes on the bottom of the ship, and the flame tanks began rolling down the streets of New York, incinerating flesh and steel with equal ease with their massive gouts of fire.
The conquest of Earth had truly begun.
My eyes widen as the one called Darkseid disappears infront of me. That's... That's impossible.
I look down at the other, smaller man, as the door to the ship closes before I can say anything. I begin to fly closer to it, to try and open the hatch, when I realise what Darkseid has unleashed, below me.
Tanks are filling the streets. Tanks. Ones that shoot fire. Those people are in danger... I have to...
I realise something. A chill runs down my spine, for probably the first time in my life.
"Metropolis!"
How do I know this is the only one? Why would Darkseid only invade New York, when his motives are clearly to rule the entire planet?
I have to get back as soon as possible. There's no telling how many people are in danger. The Daily Planet staff... Perry, Jimmy...Luthor...Lois...
No! I can't let them be put in danger!
I begin to fly, when...
I need answers. We all need answers, at this point. How can we stop this? How long do we have to resist? Why is Darkseid doing this?
I clench my fists, thinking about it all. This is too much... This is all too much for anyone to handle. Even me.
IC: Green Arrow
Lances of fire lit up the sky. Dozens of police and military helicopters flew into the teeth of the fire, trying to get one good shot at the alien ship. WInd whipped through his hair, and a copter right next to theirs vanished in a massive fireball when it was pierced by one of the shots from the massive alien craft.
"We're not gonna make it like this! Can't you call in some jets or something?!"
The sergeant, the only member of the squad without his helmet on, ran a gloved hand through his short, spiky black hair. "Didn't you hear word? Bastard ETs've shut down all communication to the outside world. Far as we know, Star City's only city left."
"Jesus..."
"Yeah. Believe me, hero, if we didn't need ya, we'd've let the damn aliens do their job on that rooftop."
"Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence there, chief."
The pilot's voice barked out from the cockpit. "Ten seconds to land, ready up back there!"
The sergeant put on his helmet. Half a dozen helicopters were all that remained of the Star City strikeforce. As Ollie watched, another two were shot out of the air.
He gritted his teeth. There'd be time for shellshock after he saved the world.
The helicopter landed with a thud on the hull of the enormous spacecraft. The SWAT team piled out, and Ollie hopped off, readying his bow and looking around. As the last man leapt out of the copter, it took off into the sky. Too slowly, it was finally pierced by a lance of fire, and it tumbled earthward.
"No time to look back, ladies! This is it, do or die! Go go go!"
They broke out into a run. In front of them, a small opening appeared, and out of it came three dozen of the gray skinned monsters. White blasts of force erupted from the pikes they carried, forcing the SWAT team down. Ollie crouched, and pulled two explosive arrows from his quiver. Drawing the bow tight, he let loose, and they flew straight and true. The dual explosion was cataclysmic, knocking down or killing most of the aliens.
"C'mon you fascist dogs! You wanna live forever?!"
He ran towards the opening, the SWAT team hot on his heels. He leapt in, and he heard the SWAT team follow him in. They slid down a chute into a large, gray room. He was the first out of the chute, and rolled with the impact of the landing, standing up and readying his bow. The dozen SWAT team members left landed after him, but with practiced ease rolled with the landing and began covering various areas of the room.
Suddenly, the lights shut off, leaving them in total darkness. "Lights on," the sergeant barked. As one, twelve shoulder lights broke into the darkness. Ollie looked around, stretching his hearing and sight to their limit. Something was... wrong. This wasn't right.
"Six twice and one they are."
The voice came from nowhere, echoing around the room, making it impossible to get a fix on it.
"Six we be."
"Six killers."
"Six murderers."
"Six thieves."
"Six brothers in sin."
"Six servants of the Lord."
"Six that say ye be doomed and damned."
Then, it started. In darkness and silence, it began. He knew what was coming, and there was nothing he could do to warn them. In one brutal moment, the SWAT team died. Their throats erupted into a crimson spray, and they fell wordlessly. Oddly, each of them fell just so that their lights, stained red with blood, fell on Green Arrow. He gritted his teeth, as vomit snaked its way up his throat. He swalloed it bitterly. He'd have time to be sick after this was over. He closed his eyes then, letting the sounds of the room tell him what his eyes couldn't. Only then did he hear them. Six pairs of footfalls, so silent that the only reason he heard them was likely because they let him.
"Six we stay, their one remains."
"Six that know what ther Lord demands."
"Six murderers that mustn't kill."
"Six that send the one to meet his master, now and forever."
Then, they vanished. He could hear them no more. He heard something that almost sounded like a door opening, then the room was filled with white.
Oh jeez. The guy in the cape's freaking. Hell, I'm freaking too. My lame jokes just make it less noticeble.
"Okay, how's this for a game plan?: We try and save as many lives as we can. Obviously, the people down there need us. We'll leave the world saving to the government and the big brains like Lex Luthor and Reed Richards."
"Okay, how's this for a game plan?: We try and save as many lives as we can. Obviously, the people down there need us. We'll leave the world saving to the government and the big brains like Lex Luthor and Reed Richards."
Richards... Oh no, I forgot. I was supposed to contact Luthor, in Metropolis, before all of this started.
I look down at the streets, as Darkseid's forces continue to terrorise the street's, below. Spider-Man's right. The world can be saved with Luthor's kind of power. But they'll probably be trying to formulate a plan to destroy Darkseid, not his forces. And those people will be dead, by then.
I look at Spider-Man, who's against a wall, infront of me.
"You're right. We need to help them, before it's too late."
Lex Luthor was back in his office in the top floor of Lexcorp Towers. He had been warned by his aides to join the rest of his Board of Directors in their underground bunker. But he was not about to hide underground like some rodent. He was Lex Luthor! He was going to stand his ground.
"This office is my fortress," Luthor said to Captain America, as thick steel shutters closed over the windows, "I have an internal communications system - so I can contact anyone, and keep an eye on everything, no matter what's going on out there."
The wall-length monitor flashed into life, filled with various smaller images. All kinds of news coverage. Footage of the interview he just gave. The ships hovering over every city. The attacks on Star City and New York City. Los Angeles was already lost. But he was going to do all he could to save what was left of America.
"Do you want to know how I first made my name as an inventor, Steve? Fighter planes. But not just any old planes. No, these are operated by AI - Artificial Intelligence. No pilots needed - they fly themselves. They are stronger and faster than any other fighter jet in the world today. And I'm sending a batallion of them into New York City."
He wanted to get his planes into Manhattan, on the double. That's where the news coverage was focused. Who really gave a crap about Star City?
"Of course, I'll send some to Star City as well. But we have to focus our efforts on New York. That's where the mothership is. I'll be sending one of my planes upwards, try and get some kind of sample of what this...mothership is made of. See what we're dealing with."
Luthor typed in a series of commands in his computer. The same computer he'd used to operate the robot that attacked Reed Richards. Once he had typed in the commands, a new image appeared full-size on the wall-screen: a camera view from the cockpit of one of Luthor's planes.
"I'll be controlling that one myself."
Luthor picked up the red phone in his office, dialling the number of one of his factories.
"This is Lex Luthor. Yes, the Lex Luthor. I want 20 of my planes sent to New York City, right now. Set the commands to destroy these...aliens wrecking havok on the streets. And send five to Star City. And I've set the coordinates to manually control another one plane myself. Get ready for take-off."
Lex Luthor slammed the phone down, and turned back to Captain America.
"And we're off..."
"So, let's get with the daring heroics."
I fly down towards the streets. Hey, I'm getting the hang of this. I see two of those flying guys atacking a group of teenagers on the street. I hit both of with the big stick thingies in my hands.
"Hiya, boys. So, how's the invasion going?"
IC: Green Arrow
He lay curled in a fetal position. He was wracked with such intense pain and nausea that the only reason he knew he wasn't dead is because he could feel so much pain. After a few moments, the pain began to subside, and he reached out and felt for his bow. He felt it after a few moments, and grasped it, opening his eyes as he did so.
He didn't know where he was. It was like a scene out of Apocalypse Now. The dead lay in the streets, buildings around him nothing but flaming ruin. The bodies of the twelve SWAT team members still lay around him, the glistening wounds in their necks silent testament to the ruthlessness of... whatever the hell it had been on that ship. He stood up, and dusted himself off. He looked to the sky, and there saw a sight that took his breath away. Hovering in the sky like some dagger was an alien ship like the one above Star City, only different. The ship was jet black, save for red runes inscribed upon its hull. He looked away after a while, the letters or whatever they were making his head spin. He saw, in the distance the Empire State Building, fire streaming from it like an open sore. Well, at least that settled where he was. New York. The clarion sound of sirens filled the air, but who could stop this?
"H-hey mister, have you seen my mommy?"
Startled, he turned around. Standing before him was a girl, couldn't have been more than six or seven years old. Soot and dust coated her down jacket, and her short brown hair was unkempt. He knelt down, and wiped some dust from her cheek. "Can't say that I have, lil' darlin'. Maybe I can help you out. What's your name?" he said, with as friendly a smile as he could muster.
"Everybody calls me Mia. Are you Robin Hood?"
"Something like that."
"Will you help me?"
" 'Course I will! That's what heroes do, if you didn't know?"
"You're a hero? Like Spider-Man?"
He let out a chuckle. "Yeah, like Spider-Man. Now, you just hold on to my hand and we'll find your-"
The ground began to shake. He looked around. He was at some kind of intersection with no visible cover besides some ruined buildings. That's when it came around the corner. A massive tank, at least fifteen feet tall topped with what looked like a dragon's head, treads chewing up the street underneath it. He slung his bow around his back and picked the girl up in one smooth motion, and started running. He'd never seen anything like that... thing before, which meant it probably belonged to the alien invaders. He felt a blast of heat at his back, and instinctively rolled to the side. From the tank spewed a gout of thick flame, torching the ground where he was.
"You've got to be kidding me. Flame tanks? What the-" He looked down at the girl in his arms. "Heck? Look, I'm gonna try and get you to a hospital or somewhere, ok? Then I'll find your mom, ok?"
"Ok, Mr. Robin Hood."
The head at the top of the tank swiveled, and fire shot forth again. He started running as hard and fast as he could. No way he could take on a tank, but there were supposed to be tons of other superheroes in New York. Where was the Fantastic Four when you really needed them?
Low grunts came from the small bathroom of Tony Starks underground Techno Lair, punctuated with swear words.
“Why the ..Offh….this is just…”
BANG
“….OUCH..I am NEVER gonna give him any….for a WEEK!....”
CRACK
“...AHHH…A MONTH…. A YEAR!”
Dinah Laurel Lance burst from the Bathroom, standing in the doorway her hand pressed against the open door and the other grasping the door jam. Her bosom rose and fell with frequency as she caught her breath.
Straightening up she ran her hand over her outfit. A tight fitting corset that tied down the front and leather boy shorts, that was over fishnet stockings. She walked to the mirror and turned around slowly, looking at herself from all angles. She smiled, pleased she looked so well in the outfit, and it was an outfit Tony had bought her to ‘spice’ things up a bit. She’d flatly refused, however his audacity to pack it in leau of other more useful clothing choices.
Her smile faded to one of sedate anger as she remembered that she was once again angry at him. How he even hoped she’d wear this, it reminded her so much of an updated version of her mothers own costume. And during the deed the last thing she wanted to be reminded of was her mother. Yet now it seemed to be useful for something.
She was so glad she hadn’t gained weight.
She strapped on the matching boots which thankfully had no heels and left the room, walking quickly up and down the rows of tables and mechanical devices. Her black outfit standing out harshly against the bright lights and silver tones of the large concrete room.
Her boots thumping the floor evenly as her eyes quickly studied everything. She stopped coming back to the black and silver suit of armor, her finger on her chin she contemplated it for a moment before looking at the table next to it at an oddly shaped matte black device.
It was about 12 inches wide, 6 inches deep and 14 inches tall, with straps attached to the two long edged. She weighted it in her hands, not that heavy either….4..5 pounds She flipped it over and looked at it, her face going into a smile.
A rocket pack. God bless you, Tony. She noticed a little device next to it and picked it up. It was tiny, with a loop of cord attached to one end. The device it’s self was about 3 inches long, about as round as a penny and on one end there was a little touch screen, not unlike the security pads.
She slung the device over her naked shoulders letting it hang on her back like a backpack and walked to an empty corner of the room. Looping the cord over her wrist she held the device in her hand and pressed down on the touch pad.
Nothing.
She tried again, this time intergrating movements of the finger in it. She opened her palm and looked down at it, smiling as she saw a little switch on the edge of the stick. Pushing it up she was rewarded with the sound of a small engine, as if under a pillow, she felt a slight heat on her back as well as a slight lifting of her body.
Dinah smiled broadly pushing down on the touch pad and launching into the air straight up.
THUD.
“AH!” Dinah held her head from where she’d bumped it against the ceiling. She moved her thumb forward across the tiny pad and felt herself move forward.
Thumb back, she went back.
Up down, right left, angle left, angle right, angle down, angle up.
She laughed and lowered herself to the ground.
“Tony I love you.” She said touching the wedding band around her neck as she raced for the door. She raced towards the stairs till something caught her eye.
Communicators…she picked one up and turned it on. Nothing.
She turned another one on and spoke into it.
“Testing…”
Her head spun as her words came out loud and clear in the earpiece of the other communicator. She smirked and ran to her room, taking the rocket pack off. She quickly took out a thick leather belt Tony had packed for her and she grabbed Tony’s black leather jacket from a closet as well as some scissors and a sewing kit.
30 minutes later she’d fashioned a makeshift utility belt. Placing it around her waist she let it hang a little lose around her hips, checking herself in the mirror again she smiled, before another frown appeared.
Dinah raised her finger tips to her cheeks and looked at herself carefully in the mirror.
Anyone who saw her would know who she was. Dinah Lance, engaged to Tony Stark. And while it might not matter to her, what about Tony? He was wearing something that covered his face, even if he didn’t do it for her sake. She again caressed the wedding band that hung between her cleavage. She sighed and turned back to Tony’s cut up jacket, sitting down she cut out a makeshift mask and tied it around her head and under her hair. It was wide an open yet it would suit her purposed.
Standing she shoved the comms in her pouches as she slung the rocket pack over her shoulders and raced for the door. Her feet making clunking thumps as they hit the concrete steps. She raced up them and stopped.
There was a Security Pad on this side of the door. She paused and held her hand out to it before stopping, her hand inches from the green pad. She prayed a silent prayer and pressed her hand to it.
What seemed like hours went by as a line of brighter green light ran up and down her hand before a display appeared reading:
STARK, DINAH LANCE
She raised her eyebrow.
Little ahead of yourself there Tony, she smiled a fond smile before racing down the corridors, stopping at each door to scan her hand.
Three STARK, DINAH LANCE’s later she emerges into the stair well. She races up them, her legs pumping quickly, she soon reaches the top of the building and peeks out the roof access door. Bright lights light up the night and large dots of dark fly through the air.
“Nice one Dinah…what have you got yourself into?” She whispers as she ducks behind the door as a large humanoid flies past. Waiting a moment before he’s gone Dinah races to the roof and looks down. Darkness is in the streets below, raising her head she gazes over the city. Smoke rises in the distance and bright blasts of light make their way from between the buildings. A large thumping noise causes Dinah to look down again. She can make out a large tank like vehicle far below shooting streams of fire at the buildings.
“Tony..” She whispers as she takes a breath.
Putting her foot out she steps off the roof and lets herself fall a ways before hitting the switch on her rocket pack. She slows and then starts to rise. Angling herself away she flies over the city, dodging between buildings and slowly lowering herself closer to the ground. She lands, and pressed her body against a brick wall, she peeks out onto the street. Wondering why theses Aliens are here. Her blue eyes go wide as she realizes that the tanks aren’t just aiming at the buildings but at the people themselves.
A small boy falls and his mother is torn away from him in the large crowd as it surges forward away from the ominous tank. Running Dinah scoops him up as the heat from the flames touches her legs. She runs down an alley with him in her arms before stopping and putting him down.
His red hair standing out in the dim light of the alley as flashes of light burst in the distance.
Dinah takes a breath and leans over, her hands on her knees. Her adrenaline pumping.
“Are you okay?”
The boy asks.
Dinah looks up and smiles.
“Yes, I’m fine. You okay?” She asks.
The little boy nods.
“I’m okay.”
“Good.”
Dinah straightens up and looks around, the noticeably strained conversation the least of her worries.
She stops, the reality of what she’s doing catching up to her.
She’s wearing a Fredrick of Hollywood outfit with stolen technology from her fiancés secret lair and now she was out here, gallumping around, acting or trying to act like a hero.
“Who are you?” The boy asked.
Dinah looked down at him.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean who. are. you. You aren’t Superman or Spider-Man…”
“Obviously. They’re lacking in some areas.” Dinah interrupted in a low voice.
“..You one of their girlfriends?”
Dinah looked at him levelly.
“Umm..No…”
“Then who are you?”
“I’m….” A loud rumbling sound came closer, the sight of flames emerged from the end of the alley. Dinah crouched down pulling the boy with her.
“Shhh…stay here.” She whispered as she stood up and raced to the end of the alley.
A large tank...thing…was chasing a man and a girl. Dinah did a double take as she rose into the air. Not just anyman, a guy in green, with a mask on, she rolled her eyes.
The Green Arrow some poor fool is dellusioned into thinking he’s Robin Hood.
She flew parallel to them, pulling out ahead and stopping over their trajectory.
First the girl.
Swooping down Dinah grabbed her from Green Arrow.
“Cover your ears and be ready!” She called to him as she rose into the air.
“Hold on honey.” She said softer to the girl as she held her in one arm. And flew backwards waiting again for Green Arrow to run under her again.
“And cover your ears.”
Dinah checked to see that the girl had her ears covered and then she opened her mouth, her vocal chords slipping slightly in her throat, she screamed.
“EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE”
Large circles of light emerged from Dinah’s mouth, staying small but getting larger as they went away from her, the visual translation of her Sonic Scream.
The same moment she started screaming she put her rocket pack on full force forward to compensate for her vocal force. The tank stopped and was pushed back as the flames which emerged where pushed back and evaporated quickly in the air Dinah was pushing forward.
IC: Green Arrow
Who the blazes was that? That ravishing, blonde-haired beauty with the rocket pack? And that killer scream. Wow. If he didn't know better, he'd think he was in love. It was that, or after effects of the massive throbbing pain in his ears.
No time to think about that now. He pulled out two more explosive arrows from his quiver. Got to watch myself with these things, I'm starting to run low, he thought. The woman's scream had actually flipped the tank over, exposing it's underbelly.
"Hey, lady with the jetpack, get outta the way!" He crouched down as she flew up into the sky. Drawing the bowstring tight, he took aim. With a twang, he released the arrows into the underside of the tank. There was a tremendous explosion as the arrows did their work, essentially vaporizing the tank. Must've hit something important for there to be that kind of damage.
He slung his bow over his back and looked up at the woman with the rocketpack, who was holding Mia. "Well hello there pretty bird. You mind taking that girl to a hospital or somewhere safe?"
Dinah landed and set the girl down allowing her to race back to the Green Arrow.
"I doubt the Hospital is where you want to go."
She placed her hands on her hips, her hair turning a red color as it reflected the light of the fire.
"Everyone's going to be there and these Aliens don't seem to bother with who or what they destroy. You'd just be a sitting target.
OOFH"
Dinah looks down at the small red-headed boy who banged against her attaching himself to her leg. In the light she could see he was about 8 or 9 years old.
Should find his parents. DInah looks around at the rubble and hears the noises in the distance.
She sighs.
Not likely.. She looks around at the buildings. Only a few blocks from the Stark Building.
"Come on. I know a safe place for the children." She motioned as she took the young man's hand. She jogs down the street, ducking in and out of the shadows as the creatures fly high above. Her feet crunching as she tramples the glass that litters the ground everywhere,
Pausing to wait for the Green Arrow and the girl she looks around and finds she's standing in front of a movie store. Ducking in through a broken door she grabs an armful of children’s videos.
"What are you doing?" The boy asks, his large green eyes staring up at her.
"That's stealing."
Dinah hesitated.
Why does he have to be right?
"I'm going to pay for it later."
She gave him a few and stepped back out on the street coming face to face with the Green Archer.
Blushing in the darkness she repeated.
"I'm going to pay for it later." Before turning and walking away.
Coming around the corner of a building she stopped and peeks, recognizing the Stark Building across the street. Looking both ways she races across and slips in through the broken windows. Stopping she holds up her hand, the shadows and light playing across her body.
Be smart Dinah.
"You stay here, I'll take them the rest of the way."
She holds her hand out to the little girl, who hesitates. Dinah smiles,
"It's okay..."
The girl smiled back and took her hand. Dinah hurried them to the stairs and helped them down a few flights, stopping at the first door.
"Can either of you read?"
"No."
The girl shook her head causing her brown hair to swoosh across her face.
Dinah nodded and pressed a code in, ushering them through the corridors.
"What is this place?"
"Someplace...you.....are...not....supposed...to...be." She answered as she concentrated on remembering what code Tony had put in for the second door. She furrowed her brow.
His Birthday...Her birthday...license plate...favorite car...mothers maiden name.
Dinah's fingers danced across the numbers. She sighs and leans against the wall, her hand on her forehead. She looks down at the children, they gaze up at her, their eyes wide and wondering. Dinah gives a weak smile as maternal feelings crash over her.
I wonder if Tony wants any children, we’ve never really talked about it.
FOCUS DINAH!.
Dinah turns back to the keyboard and thinks, before she smiles.
Quickly she punches in the date of her and Tony's nuptials. She finishes the last one with ease and the door slides open, revealing the large warehouse room.
“OOHHH”
“AAHH”
Dinah smiles at their reactions, before urgency takes over.
“Hurry.” She ushers them quickly past everything and into the small living area of the warehouse.
“What are we supposed ta do here?” The boy asks.
Dinah dumps the DVD’s on the sofa, and takes the ones the boy is holding, piling them on top of the ones she dropped.
“You know how to work a DVD player?” She asks.
The boy looks at her with a look of “No, DUH, doesn’t everyone?”
Dinah nods.
“Right…stupid question. Okay. You aren’t to go past that….line there.” She points to a red line she just noticed on the floor which ran around the small living area.
“Food’s there...don’t touch the stove, and the bathroom is there.” Dinah points.
The boy gives a snort sound.
“I know..I know..” Dinah ignores him and kneels in front of the little girl.
“What’s your name honey?”
“Mia.”
“Mia. That’s a very pretty name. Well Mia, don’t do anything you know is wrong okay? And don’t let…” Dinah glances over at the boy who’d plopped himself on the sofa and was now digging through the pile of DVD’s.
“Roy.” He said as if sensing her need.
“Don’t let Roy do anything to you that you know is wrong. Okay?”
Mia nods her head and Dinah smiles and stands up.
“Okay. Now remember…don’t. touch. anything.” She says sternly, obviously looking at Roy.
He gives her an O.K. sign.
“Got it.”
Dinah writes two quick notes. One to Tony explaining why the children are there and one with all the codes for the doors and who to contact, should she become unable to come back for the children. The food should last them for weeks. Posting the one for Tony on the fridge she stuffs the other in between her breasts and runs out.
Dinah runs through the room, stopping in front of the door and looking back over the full room at the red and brown head’s bobbing up and down in the small living area.
She gives a quick smile and prayer God, keep them safe.. before turning and running back to the Green Arrow.
She emerges from the dimly lit stairwell into the unnaturally lit splattered darkness.
He turns and looks at her.
“They’re okay.” She smiles briefly and then looks out the window at the rubble across the street.
"Good," he said, resting his arms on his bow. He looked over the woman in front of him. A mask hid her face, but her lustrous blonde hair still flowed behind her. The leather and fishnets combo was... interesting, at least.
"I think this is the part where you tell me who you are. Oh, and how we're going to stop this whole thing."
Dinah thinks for a moment.
Name..Superhero name...
"I'm the Black Canary." She replies praying that her mother will forgive her.
"There doesn't seem like much we can do, except help people here on the ground. Hopefully the Meta's with the ability of flight can work that thing." She points up, in referance to the ship over the city.
"Lex. What should I do? Surly there is something I can do in this hour of need. Afetr all, America needs me. It must not be a conincidence that you found me just before this invasion."
This was a tricky situation. Captain America would be risking death. But having him out there, fighting to save the day, would make Luthor look very good. It was a risk he was willing to take.
"I have a plane on the helipad up on the roof," Luthor said, "If you wanted to help, you could pair up with the plane I'll be controlling from here. Help me on the field with my reconnaissance mission."
Luthor realised he should be showing signs of hesitation. So, he placed his hands on Captain America's shoulders, and put a pleading expression on his face.
"But please, Steve, think about this. You will be risking your life out there. Are you sure you want to go through with this?"
