Do you think the world would function better if instead of every country having it's own government, everyone would just answer to one?

I think america should be the central world goverment, we are the most powerful Nation, its only right.

Even though America is only what, 5% of the world's population? Highly doubtful. If any world government arises, it should be the next evolution of the United Nations. Not to say that the UN is particularly effective, but if it were, it would be the best bet for the world's leaders.

America as the world government. Don't make me laugh. You really think the EU would go for that?

Um, no. Pretty sure that's one of the signs of the apocalypse.

No we've already have a thread on this. THERE SHOULD NOT BE ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT!

People will not anwser to one.

First of all it would be dominated by the G8 (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, and Japan) and China.

Second, too many hatreds.

No, It most certainly won't.

On a completely unrelated note, Immortal are you as ticked about the Thrashers cruddy playoff performance as I am?

Are you insane. One world goverment would be terrible. They could never successful reperasent the will of all the people on the planet. plus it would be too much power to simply give to one group of people.

Yah, that didn't go too well did it? A bad end to an otherwise great season.

We might as well all live in boxes if we have a one world goverment.

1 Word Gov't. is impossible without tyrrany and bloodshed.

Theocracies will not bow to secular gov't.s and vice versa.

Close the thread 'cause that's one of the huge reasons the Bible can not be true. It says there will be a 1 World Gov't. and that can never, ever, ever, ever happen...so speculating about it is silly.
You might as well ask, "Would the world run more smoothly if it was made of marshmallow and we all grew 14 noses?"

I can't speak for the 14 noses thing, but if the world were made of marshmallow, then there would be no more world hunger. :D

Eventually ther will be a UN committee with POWER AND AUTHORITY that all nations abide by to a degree... but thats only when settlements on the moon and Mars and elsewhere in the solar system win their own independence from Earth

The world isn’t ready for a one world government, there’s too much religious and cultural differences. People in Texas can’t stand the residents of California, how do you think people from China and Russia will get along? Not to mention the religious right is still paranoid about that anti-christ bull ****.

Posted by Spider-BiteRight now scientists are working on a genetically modifying plants so that they can grow in the dessert, with less water, last longer without spoiling, more untritous, grow faster and produce more food, and resistant to disease. Nobody knows how far off they are from being able to grow in the desert. It could be five years, or it could be 50.

Right now a gene has been created the 'terminator' gene. It was developed for the purpose of allowing investors who genetically modify plants to protect their investment. When the terminator gene is inserted into the plants genome, then in order for a plants seedlings to grow, the mother plant would need to have been previously exposed to either a beam of light at a certain fequency at just the right stage of development, or a certain chemical at just the right stage of development. this way you can't just buy a genetically modified orange and suddenly be able to grow it wherever you want for free.

Now that this science lesson is out of the way, here is my plan for world peace, a successfuly way to acheive a one world government.

The government invests mega money into this research and develops plants that can grow in the desert, itself, and regulates genetic research to prevent private investors from coming up with the technology. Once we have that technology, the government grows a caboodle of it, and sells it to other countries. half the money the government uses to give the American people a tax break, and the other half, the government sets aside. We will call that money set aside, the Transition reserve, while talking about it here.

After 10 years of building up our transition reserve, and enjoying lower taxes, and stronger ecnomic prosperity, we make an offer to Mexico. We join up and become one big country. Because of your low population density, we can use your currently worthless desert land, to grow a lot more food than we do now. It would be in the ecnomic best interests of both our countries to join up and become one big country. We use the transition reserves, to help cover the cost of making this transition into one big country, as the first few years will require a lot of work and management. We'd have to rework their schools, courtrooms, and so on. And it would take a good 10 years to bring their economic standards up to par.

About 10 years after we join up with mexico, we then make the offer to another country, then another country, and another country and so on. Each time we joined up with another country our ecnomy would get stronger and stronger, because each time we join up, we now have even more land to put the genetically modified crops to use. Over time the price at which we sell these plants could become dirt cheap, because we'd be able to sell so much of it, after joining up with so many countries. This would give this new government a positive image in the minds of third world countries.

Middle easter countries who currently hate the U.S., would no longer have a country to hate, because eventually what used to be the United States, is now just a small part of a much larger community. And the citizens of those countries would desperately want to join up with us to escape their own poverty and oppression.

The long term goal of a one world government would take a long time to reach. Not every country would want to join up at day one, but gradually one by one, each country would choose to join up with us. Even China would want to, as a means to escape their over population and high population density.

And the entire world would save money on military expenses. We'd have world peace. And we could use governmental social programs to help desegregate the world to mix up the cultures, because exposure promotes tolerance and acceptance. It is possible for this to work. There are obstacles which I'll talk about later, which I have anticipated and already thought of counter measures for. Feel free to talk about this and pick it apart. I feel many of you will dismiss this merely because you think it's too good to be true. A lot of people have said world peace is impossible, and because of that they would dismiss this, but let's talk about this plan!

It's a nice dream of Utopia but in practice it just won't ever happen and ultimately wouldn't work anyway. Too many personal and regional interests at play.

Nice plan Spider-Bite, but you're completely and utterly ignoring the thoughts of the population. Especially when it comes to the Middle-East. Rather than thinking that making America bigger will dissipate the hate, it just means there'll be something bigger to hate, and your plan is pretty much the complete and utter personification of Western imperialism. Y'know, the thing those Middle-Eastern countries have a problem with?

Besides that, I don't think a world government would work. Besides the fact that you'd have to instate smaller governments anyway to actually make it work, I wouldn't even want it. I like living in Holland, and am proud of being Dutch. I have absolutely no desire to become just another world citizen.

I think america should be the central world goverment, we are the most powerful Nation, its only right.

that is ego tystical way of looking at it.

I support a one world government, but I don't believe America should be the central world government. I don't believe in any central world government.

I believe in a federal government with states underneath it. Within every state every citizen should have equal rights, and every individual should have the right to vote or run for state or federal held office.

Anything less is a dictatorship, in my opinion.

I'm not talking about making america any bigger than holland. This wouldn't be america anymore, it would be earth. Think about it. If america and mexico join up, then your not joining with america. Your joining with mexico and america and every other country that has already joined.

Besides that, I don't think a world government would work.

It depends on how it comes into existence. If your talking about invading and conquering, then no it wouldn't work. If your talking about making an appealing offer to those who are less fortunate than it would work.
Besides the fact that you'd have to instate smaller governments anyway to actually make it work,

It's already like that in America. Federal, state, and local governments. It works.

I wouldn't even want it. I like living in Holland, and am proud of being Dutch. I have absolutely no desire to become just another world citizen.

Imperialism? I'm also part dutch, but I could care less, because it's irrelevant to who I am as a person. why would I be proud? It's nothing but DNA. Why would you want to remain divided? What have you got against somebody just for being American? That you need to seperate yourselves from us.

You might not realize it, but your pride in being dutch is like a white supremicist who says he's proud not be black. And as country after country comes together, more and more people will see it that way. They will look forward.

Yes a lot of people say that now. But think about it. If we were doing this, as a citizen you would benefit economically, because the land in your country could be used to sell crops to other countries.

Not to mention that America will probably be the first country to be without poverty, because we will probably be the first country to overhaul our economy so that labour is performed by machines. That will be a big reason right there, why many will want to join.

In addition as more and more countries come together, more and more citizens will pay taxes into NASA. As it advances, more and more people will say "that country is the future, and I want to be part of it" More People will look forward to the future, instead of back preserving the ways and borders of their ancestors.

When we discover ancient life on mars, and people start to think about what's out there, they will be less likely to want to remain divided back here.

Think of the money we would save on military as well. Every time a new country joins the other ones, you have more citizens paying into the military. You can lower the amount of taxes that each citizen spends on the military saving the citizens even more money. Not to mention that is one less possible war in the world.

And if you disagree with my government's foreign policies, as I do, then you will have a say in what it does. If you disagree with Bush's decision to go to war with Iraq, than you could vote for an anti-war politician as I do.

Well, not right now. But that should be the goal for the future. Hope some day the UN could have that role. More integration means more peace.

I agree with every word of that post. I think the soonest possible this could become a reality is a 120 years from now, if even then.

But it is the way of the future.

And integration does mean more peace, because when people from different worlds, live together, work together, get to know each other, and form caring relationships with each other, that's when real progress is made and we become united!

Yeah, see Sunni and Shiite Iraq.

Oh wait...

We’re closer to it than we’ve ever been before, but I’m estimating somewhere between 150 to 200 years before it’s even a possibility.
Good or bad, I think it’s the path that we’re taking.
