Save the swinging for the actual film. 2 mins of watching spidey swinging would actually be boring, unless they incorporate a multitude of mind-blowing choreographed aerial parkour stunts and acrobatics and even then that could be pushing it. All this good stuff, I want to see in the actual film.
I would like to see some classic comic book covers used in the opening credits, about the only sh movie I can recall that has done this is Judge Dredd.
They could go through the book's eras, taking an iconic cover from each major Spidey artist, Ditko, Romita Snr, Andru, S Buscema, Romita Jnr, Frenz, McFarlane, Larsen etc etc, right up the Ultimate comics or whatever.
What they could do is choose covers with Spidey poses that they could bring to life easily, the cover comes on screen and then the drawing of Spider-man becomes the live action Spider-man and springs out of the page and swings or jumps offscreen, to be replaced with the next cover. As well as looking cool it could get some kids interested in picking up the comics too.
Agreed on all of this.Opening credits are a waste of time... the ghosts of Saul Bass, Robert Brownjohn and Maurice Binder (and Daniel Kleinman, who's still alive) would have a word with you.
Anyway, it depends for me. Spider-Man 2's credits with Alex Ross's paintings based on the first film were sublime, 3 felt lazy with the reused footage.
I think that would be a great idea. No one has done it, and it'll be a good way to refer back to the source materials (comics).I would like to see some classic comic book covers used in the opening credits, about the only sh movie I can recall that has done this is Judge Dredd.

I like the opening title to Tron: Legacy. I think it would be a neat idea to emulate it somewhat by having him swinging through the city (possibly even in first person or just a Spideycam shot) and then have the logo between the buildings in real time. Have him swing through them with the camera following him through the letters.
Voiceover wouldn't be necessary, but the visual would be cool. If you want, I can to an animatic mock-up of my idea after I finish the one I'm doing for Man of Steel.
Also, first post.
I really like this idea.
Welcome to the hype!
So you dont like SM2 and SM's final swinging at all? just...wow. Thats reason why I have fallen in love with Spidey.

I actually agree. I loved the credits for the first and second Spidey films. They were creative and really got you excited for the film. The third movies credits, were much like the film itself, a lazily cobbled together pastiche.
I am positive that Marc Webb will impress with the creative direction in this film. But yeah, opening credits, while they were great for the first two Spidey's, aren't a requirement for the new one.
I agree with that. A short visually appealing title sequence just showing "The Amazing Spiderman" will be enough and will differentiate it from Raimi's. Letting the audience know that this is a different Spiderman movie from the other trilogy, but it's still Spiderman. But I also hope the title sequence won't be as simple (although great in their own way) as Nolan's Batman films.
I don't know, personally I feel there are certain types of movies that benefit from a rousing opening credits sequence, like the Superman movies, and the 3 Spider-mans.
I think Nolan's Batman logos work because they invoke the mysterious nature of Batman, but Spider-man and Superman are bright colourful characters and somehow i feel they benefit from a big opening. I like credit sequences setting me up for the thrill of certain kinds of films.
And @ the other posters discussing it...I have to disagree about the opening credits to SM3, I thought they were very well done, they obviously wanted to refresh the GA's memory as this was the final part in the trilogy, and they did the job well attaching the images to the web graphics, they had some good graphics with the symbiote too.
SM2's final swing didn't impress me. It looked off. The final swing in spider-man 1 however, was simply epic and awesome in every conceivable way. But the majority of in-film swinging scenes were uninspired and generic.
Please ignore how terrible and quick this drawing was. It's a rough breakdown of what I'm going to try to do.

I'm sorry if it's almost impossible to see what's going on.
I don't think they'll have a main title sequence. The film will probably start off with the Columbia logo, the "Columbia Pictures and Marvel Entertainment presents" bit and the film's title before a hard cut to the first scene.
Reverse what Raimi's film did and have a fancy titles sequence in 3D at the end.
