I'll take G1's toy commercial story with the BRILLIANT voice acting of Frank Welker over any of the recent REAL toy commercials like Armada or Cybertron.

Dont Diss G1, mother funker because There's real bad transformers shows out there. He-man, now there's a toy commercial show, but even that's better than most of the recent anime crap that's been coming in. Note that I'm not saying all anime being imported is crap like that pokemon garbage that just won't die. That's a damn toy commercial.

You can lower your standards and eat up any old crap with transformers logo on it, but not me. NOT EVER.

Again, if it weren't for fan uproar Prime would be a firetruck, and have a female robot love interest (Arcee), Soundwave would be a troll, and Will Smith would be doing the voice of Prime. So fans do make a difference.

Let me also add that though I recognize G1 was made to sell some cool toys, the difference between that and Pokemon is that it actually tried to maintain some sense of integrity as an epic sci-fi story about the classic good vs evil while Pokemon has no intention of hiding the fact that it's just a ******ed 30min toy commercial.

Take the original TMNT series as another example of a show that's not really hiding the fact that it's made to sell toys. The recent series completely blows it away, while oddly I cant say the same about whatever recent transformer show we have out there now.

I can't beleive you would point to his blatant self promotion as your argument!
The fact is Bay makes SHALLOW movies.
He tries to trick you into thinking the movie is bigger than it is with camera angles, explosions and dramatic music.
I don't fall for that crap. Don't get me wrong all those techniques are great in the hands of a good director but bay has yet to prove himself as a director of any importance.
All his movies thus far have been fluff. Shallow, mindless, souless, bubblegum fluff with a huge budget.
I sincerely hope that this is his swans song movie and it turns out beautiful but I sure wouldnt bet on it based on his track record....

He is just egotistical and under the assumption that camera angles and FX are what make a good movie.
If some people like his moves thats great but some of us think of movies as more than eye candy especially when the movie is based on something we are close to.

Alot of the reason Godzilla (and Transformers for that matter) was corny was just because of when they came out. Godzilla was great for the 1970's just like transformers was great for the 80's and it would be great if the movie producers and directors would take what was good and build on it instead of totally re-inventing the property and making it barely recognizeable.

Well, I think some of the better shows of today (Teen Titans for instance) are direct descendents of Transformers. Back then before TF we had Smurfs, Heathcliff, and the like. Even TF's "sister" show, G.I. Joe was god-aweful (compared to the comic). It wasn't until TMNT that TF was supplanted.

Transformers wouldn't have outlived all its brethren the way it has had there not been something very special about the story, characters, and sci-fi elements. Shogun Warriors was about big robots. So was Voltron (both of them). And, of course, Go-bots. None of those have inspired so many people as Transformers.... so there IS something to that silly little cartoon and comic book and toys.

There is a diffrence from adapting a single story and adapting something like Transformers that has been changed and changed countless times. What I see is happening now is that people are complaining that Tom Bombadil isnt in the movie and they havent seen any of the LOTR movies.

Transformers has never been "changed countless times." This movie is telling the "Spike and Bumblebee" era story of Transformers. And that has never been rebooted or redone. Every incarnation of Transformers has taken place in its own place of history... i.e. Optimis Primal is not Optimus Prime.

I have read conflicting viewpoints on the production of this movie and I think both sides have a legitimate point. I will remain cautiously optimistic about the film for now. I just pray that the production team will not treat the fans of Transformers the same way the fans of X-Men were treated with X3. I still have a hard time stomaching all the lies Brett Ratner, Tom Rothman, Simon Kinberg, Avi Arad, and Zak Penn told to get fans to see that crap.

The Robotech cartoon is one of the few that could succeed as a word for word adaption to film. One will probably be made in the next five years(Followed by at least 8 more films in the 20 book saga.). I pray that the property rights will not be given to 20th century Fox.
