The Last Jedi Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron (VIII)

I enjoyed him in the Last Jedi. His role is a lot bigger and I dug his cocky swagger.

Poe has the balls to troll Kylo in the Force Awakens and Hux in the Last Jedi :funny:

One of the things I liked best about The Last Jedi was Poe's expanded role.

He really was a great pilot in this one.

I found it pretty funny that [blackout]Poe could stage a mutiny on poorly informed grounds, which would come to lead to half the remaining Resistance being wiped out, and the leaders like him for it.[/blackout]

Poe's role was SO much better this time around. Even though is big story did kind of hinge on a plot hole, he was terrific. He absolutely earned his lead billing in this film.

Great arc for Poe but still had a fair few cool moments too, especially that opening. Quickly becoming my favourite part of the new cast.

I thought they gave him way too much exposition, like he was just a mouthpiece to spell things out for us.

I thought he was a better more fleshed out character here

His arc was wierd

He was supposed to learn not to be a reckless flyboy,

but
his actions caused the deaths of nearly everyone in the resistance. But what really made it not work for me was the ending of it.

Leia and Holdo think his actions were stupid, but don't seem all that offended by them. Holdo even jokes "oh I like this one".

I never got the feeling Poe has any remorse/regret for the people that died due to his plans. Both the people that died on the bombing run mission, or the people that died on the transports/Crait.

All we got was that minute of self reflection when Poe realizes that Luke was creating a diversion by fighting Kylo.

my problem is poe whole story with Holdo didn't need to happen its like they created a conflict to give poe something to do when all she had to do is tell him what she was doing

Maybe it's the latent tumblr shipper fangirl in me, but I'm feeling like there was a little something extra to that Poe/Rey intro at the end. Maybe they just wanted to give them a formal introduction onscreen rather than go two whole movies without and let people think they could've crossed paths offscreen during TFA, like I had been thinking. But maybe...

I'd take it, because:
1. I thought Finn/Rose had a good thing
2. Platonic male-female friendships can be a thing, and it seems feasible to me that Finn/Rey are that
3. Mr. "Be Bad With Me, Or I'll Be Even WORSE!" probably shouldn't get any action for awhile
4. Finn/Poe hooking up would be quite something, but it's pretty clear that ain't happening, so...

Damerey. I'll allow it.

I didn't even catch on to that when I was watching it, I just thought "what a random addition to the film, are they banging in Episode IX or something?". It wasn't until later that I said "ohhhhhh okay." Same destination, different journeys, I suppose.

Holdo doesn't need to tell Poe anything.

She is the leader and he is under her command. He is supposed to suck it up and do as he is told.

Totally agree on this one.
The whole point of Poe's arc was to show the consequnces of reckless decisions but Poe didnt get any punishment for that. I guess that's because there's just a handful of people left from the Resistance, but they should've at least showed Poe regretting his choices.
I also found it inconvincing that Holdo did not share her plan even after the discontent of the officers. Sure she's of superior rank but Resistance is not a regular army but more like a guerilla organization with less formal structure.

The annoying thing about this is that, if you've been consuming the other media Lucasfilm has been putting out... namely the comics, and in particular the Poe comic, this movie was a total backslide in his character. By issue 14 he's learned a pretty huge thing about leadership, brought on specifically by Leia pushing him towards it. That comic series got me liking him even more and added so much depth, but TLJ just kinda kills it.

Poe was completely neutered in this movie.

But I loved this scene...
