The Amazing Spider-Man Otto Octavius Casting Thread

Too big of an Actor. Too expensive.

Robin Williams was in "Happy Feet" which had a budget of $100 million. Even though it's been reported the film will cost $80 million, these sorts of films often go over budget by a bit so it's feasible to get Robin Williams.

There's always Sky Captain to consider, as well. Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Angelina Jolie are all relatively well known, but they did Sky Captain regardless of how much they were to be paid because they were genuinely interested.

I kinda feel the same way. I don't know if I could get past the fact that he's Robin Williams. But at the same time, I know the guy can be very chilling and villainous. Who knows? :otto:

Have you lost your mind, Robin Williams would probably ask for 15-20M in a multi-billion dollar franchise playing a major villain like Doctor Octopus?

Sky Captain isn't a multi-billion dollar franchise, that changes people minds real fast. No big star is doing Spider-Man for peanuts. That's why Sony doesn't hire big stars to play their villains, they know their asking price.

How is Doc Ock arguably Spider-Man's greatest enemy? There is no way. Sure, he is my favorite villian, but he is not his greatest. That is reserved for Venom for the Green Goblin.

Because next to Green Goblin, he's screwed with Peter's personal life the most, and been a constant danger to him and the public consistently since his inception.

Venom is not even a contender. What has he ever done besides stalk and fight Spider-Man? He knows Peter's secret identity, and what has he done with that info? Nothing. He's never killed or even seriously hurt anyone close to Peter.

He's nothing but a glorified stalker with a chip on his shoulder. It's no wonder Raimi didn't like the character. He's a waste of space. Looking like Spider-Man, and having similar powers does not make a cool villain.

Before the Green Goblin came out Doc Ock was unquestionably Spider-Man's arch-nemesis, IMO. He's now one of the three villains considered to be Spider-Man's arch-nemesises (nemesi?) along with GG and Venom. And I would rank Doc Ock way above Venom in that category to be honest.

I remember when we had this same agrument (ecept it was about Green Goblin) Good times. Good times.

James Gandolfini would be an interesting possibility.

Stellan Skarsgard

He has the perfect voice and demeanor. He would knock it out of the park.

Hm. I think I'd be open to Skarsgard. Though I know they'd want to separate as much as possible from Raimi's series, I do think the look of Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2 was commendable. The design of the arms more than anything.

Its arguable because it can be legitimately substantiated by everything Ock has done since his debut. Lets forget about Ock at one time knowing Peter was spidey, he caused peter some serious hell. Ock even saved spidey's life from a terminal illness for the simple fact he wanted to be the one to cause spidey's death. Then there's the fact that his arms ae ferocious weapons. People don't have to like Doc Ock but to deny that he ranks in the top 2 villains category simply means one doesn't know much about the character and his criminal career history. I'll always remember when Doc Ock was brought back to life, spidey was essentially crapping himself.

Christoph Waltz

I second this choice; he has a very strong resemblence of the Utlimate Doctor Octopus style, and the fact that he's german increases his stability to play the character, along with the Oscar he's going to recieve in a couple of weeks. :awesome:

^^^ He was brilliant in Inglorious Basterds.

Who should play Doctor Octopus in the next Spider-Man movie?

How about Molina?! Alfred f***ing Molina! I can't think of anyone who could beat his performance in Spider-Man 2! Do you think that SM2 got all that critical and popular acclaim because of Bruce Campbell's riveting performance as a theater usher? Hasn't anyone at Sony heard the old saying "if it's not broke, don't fix it"?

More importantly, has anyone at Sony had a working relationship with a clue since they took their driver's test?

Shave platt's hair off and he could almost pass for wilson fisk lol but yeah, he could pull off ock but I'm really leaning more towards Stellan Skarsgard.

If this reboot really is going full USM we will probably get a fit slim Octavius.

ok here are some ideas for a slimmer ock...

Timothy Hutton

or

Kim Coates
