The Transformers movie designs were too busy and you couldnt tell who was who in a fight, dont want that for this movie
The only reason some people couldn't tell who was who in some fights was due to how they were edited and some camera placement(it was no different than in Saving private ryan). Anyone who said the same thing about any sequence in TF3 is/was clearly lying.
I'm liking the fresh design approach of this film but I certainly agree that the design(at least the blue prints) are edging towards the generic. Stuff like Gundam has more personality than that first one and certainly that russian one. If anything it's the scale that selling me at this point in time.
Back to transformers, something people never understand, is that for TF to have the Jurassic park caliber impact it had on the youth of the time(effects wise), it needed to convince the audience not just on the rendering and compositing level, but also on the practical level as well. Kids really had to believe that cars were unwrapped and walking up right, gears et all. I for one believed they achieved that, especially with Bee's first transformation.
Ironman, in part, looks the way he does because he doesn't have to convince anyone that he's an unwrapped car walking on two feet. I think some liberties could have been taken with TF designs if only to please the fans a bit more, but I still respect the theory at play. 3D design is one of the most researched craft's out there(I'd know, I'm in it).
Back to PR. I hope this doesn't fall as flat with the audience as the equally impressive Hell boy work. It has to really scream.
