Meh. Del Toro has yet to have a movie as good as T2, Aliens, or even T1 to me. The Hellboy movies are good but it's not like they were that good.

Pans Labyrinth is up there with T2 and Aliens IMO.

All I have to say is that Guillermo's hollywood movies haven't been all that. He has made some nice movies, but they pale compared to his mexican/spanish filmography.

His films are just a different genre man. If you're talking about action? Then yeah Cameron wins in spades. Other things though, just aesthetic wise, or working with kids I prefer GDT. I love both though.

I'm very excited about this project. Del Toro is the perfect director for a film such as this one (monsters + mech suits + Del Toro = epic).

according to press release for Comic Con Oscar Nominated Actress Rinko Kikuchi(Babel,The Brothers Bloom) is also apart of the cast

Just my guess:

Charlie Hunnam- The Hero
Idris Elba- The Muscle
Charlie Day- The Comic Relief
Rinko Kikuchi- The Hot Chick/(The Brains?)

Seems like an anime-type mecha team to me.

I hope they at least have some production artwork to show.

should have something there really is only 1 main character left to cast

I can't help but think EVA when I think Pacific Rim

Why do you think EVA?

Is that the direction the movie's taking? Humans in mecha vs aliens?

well the synopsis is this so yeah
This project will give the Hellboy filmmaker the opportunity to create two worlds. The first is an alternate version of Earth in the near future, decades after a historic date in November 2012 when the first kaiju, a towering Godzilla-like beast, emerged from a hole in the Pacific Ocean and attacked the city of Osaka, Japan. The second is “The Anteverse,” another universe on the other side of that gaping portal, 5 miles below our ocean’s surface. Since the first attack, the rim has been “spitting out” a variety of gigantic monsters at an increasing rate, which then stride out of the ocean and begin destroying sea-bordering cities, like Tokyo and Los Angeles. In order to combat these monstrous, otherworldly menaces, the military developed the “Jaeger” program, which trains teams of two pilots to jointly operate massive, building-sized mechanized suits of armor and high-tech weaponry.

Rinko Kikuchi has joined the cast? And a Japanese actress playing a Japanese in an American movie. (I swear it's always a Korean or Chinese playing a Japanese in American films. Then Chinese and Koreans get to play their own ethncities. It's weird!)

F*** Yeah! Ever since I read that the character was Japanese, I wanted Kikuchi for the role. I'm so glad that she's a part of an impressive cast that del Toro has assembled.

Now, I'm more stoked to see this film. :woot:

Neb's Blog reported from the Anime Central convention

During the opening ceremonies when ADV head Matt Greenfield was introduced, someone in the crowd shouted a question about if we'll ever see the long-promised live-action Neon Genesis Evangelion movie. "Soon, & I'm not kidding" was Mr. Greenfield's response. He clarified a bit later that evening during an Evangelion panel, saying the closer he gets to sealing the deal the less he can say anything about it. & the fact that he can't say anything at all anymore should be a clear sign to us how close the deal really is. He seemed pretty confident.]Neb's Blog reported from the Anime Central convention[/url]

Anime News Network's ANNCast featured a talk with producer Joseph Chou (Halo Legends, Appleseed: Ex Machina), during which Chou stated that efforts to adapt Neon Genesis Evangelion into live action is still "very active." Chou is listed as a producer on the project. Chou mentioned that there is a lot of paperwork to clear, but "once that's resolved, I think it would be on the fast track, so we're hoping that it'll start moving even next year."

Chou discussed the difficulties of selling the concept of the film to studios in Hollywood, due to the complexity of the story. However, Chou said that "right now we're with a producer and a studio that really understands beyond the whole mecha impact." Chou added, "They're really looking beyond that, and really looking at drama, human elements, even to those elements that appeal to otaku."
