Pacific Rim

You don't screw Spielberg, Spielberg screws you, as Megan Fox can attest.

I like GDT but when it comes to the big blockbuster The Berg is still my guy.

Disney just slotted Steven Spielberg's Robopocalypse to the week before Pacific Rim. Which is troubling when you considering both are uber-expensive tentpoles involving full-scale invasions and robots play a big factor.

Not trying to play "doom and gloom" here, but it's something worth noting.
simple question where the f.... is Star Trek? it was crazy months ago. but now they dont even have a date for 2013?

Excellent question.

Rumor has it Abrams has rejected every sequel story/idea pitched to him. As a fan, I hope an agreement can be reached because the notion of a sequel not directed by Abrams and written K&O is...not good.

Robopobocopbocalypes (or however it's spelled) will make the most money, but Pacific Rim will be the better film.
The circle of life. Sadly :/

This feels almost like another Snow White situation, wonder if WB may blink first and move the date. Sad that Del Toro might get his legs cut out from under him, I mean if this movie does well he could get another shot for At the Mountains of Madness.

Modern Spielberg blows.

I love how GDT's balls are getting moistened and people are acting like Spielberg isn't the God of this game. Minority Report and WOTW were both great sci fi flicks IMO, especially the former. I like GDT but Christ does fanboyism smell like a week old unwashed jock strap worn by a 400lb tranny.

I think GDT is a fantastic visual filmmaker who is full of personality but I think his Spanish films are more credible than his American films. In fact, I think his filmography is uneven and makes me think he's
more liked as a person than a director (by the way of bloggers and film sites).

I think it has to do with his writing because I like his Hellboy films but they lacked the extra kick to make me wanna love them.

That said, PAC Rim isn't written by Del Toro so that's a non-issue. But in my eyes he hasn't made an American film yet that has measured up to his Spanish films. I hope PAC Rim And hopefully 'Mountains' can change that.

Nobody does blockbuster spectacle better than Spielberg.

Personally I think both movies sound stupid, but with Robopocalypse, people are going to flock because Spielberg is a name-brand, the trailers will be sick and it has a better release date. Del Toro...has a very hit-and-miss track-record.

I hope they move it, GDT doesn't deserve to keep having his legs cut out from under him.

So why does Shia Leboof still have a job?

He made a deal with the devil.

On that note: Oh, how I wish Tom Hardy wasn't a gentleman.

On Spielberg: It's not that I dislike him as a director at all. He's made many classics that currently reside on my shelf (Jurassic Park, E.T., Saving Private Ryan, Munich, The Indiana Jones series, A.I., Jaws, Empire of the Sun, Schinder's List, etc.) but as of late, it appears as if he's barely putting ANY real effort into his projects.

Plenty do it better than Spielberg these days. 2008, Iron Man > Indiana Jones 4.

War of The Worlds was a huge disappointment to me. I hated Munich. Minority Report and its wishy washy ending.

Hardly impossible for a Spielberg movie to be bested in a big crowded summer. It has happened numerous times before.

Fiction....

Spielberg's name can still make or break you in any industry right now though, that's what it comes down to. You stick his name on your tv show, your video game, your movie, hell, your music album....people will not sleep on it.

Don't worry, one day he'll brag about having bedded Rosie Huntington Whitely during the Transformers 3 shoot.

Her boyfriend would likely not be very impressed.

I gladly moisten the balls of GDT. But, I'm a realist. There is no movie that would survive competing with a Steven Spielberg directed robot war movie. I'd be sweating bricks if it where a Nolan movie, a Singer movie or any other blockbuster director that I happen to like.

Wrong.
