Ant-Man Paul Rudd is Ant-Man

not to mention that we're trading up, here. who could have ever imagined Rudd agreeing to be a character that two tv actors passed on?

When did they "pass" on the role? These guys said they weren't interested but in point of fact Marvel has never expressed any interest in casting them. In this case, "I'm not interested" probably translates to "I don't have a shot, so I'll pretend it was my choice and not the studios's."

Marvel tends to get the essence of a character right in the actor/actress they grab to portrait them... I like this hire.

Yes. I think Wright is going with the "To Steal an Ant Man" storyline though.

i'm not even sure that i can believe that anymore. that information is soo old. Feige or someone said something about Wright not changing his original script that much. but that could mean a lot of things. maybe he just decided to have it all set in the past. so far, all we know is that Paul Rudd is Ant-man and, by all accounts, Hank Pym. it'd be weird for them to shoehorn Pym into Lang's origin; mainly because of the daughter.

Devin on Twitter claimed that Wright has all but confirms that Rudd will be playing Scott Lang, and not Dr. Pym. Thoughts?

If Rudd is Lang then I wonder who they are casting as Pym?

I don't know why Marvel doesn't always release official castings of the character actors are playing unless its a plot spoiler of something.

Someone should ask Edgar on twitter which Ant-Man Rudd is playing.

He wouldn't reply.

And I think Rudd is playing Pym. Come on, look at him. Middle-aged, "normal," doesn't have the look or build for someone like Lang - someone who could steal a ****ing superhero suit. He looks like a scientist, and could be excellent as one. Someone like Garrett Hedland would be the perfect "look" for that character, IMO.

Well Rudd could be under some sort of regimen right now to get some muscle mass... It's really 50/50 at the moment. Physically he'd fit either Pym or Lang.

on a related note, if they did cast a second person (hank or scott), they'd have to have similar physical stats. it probably couldn't be someone larger than 6 feet.

It was Wright himself who said the script hasn't changed all that much.

I don't think there is a specific look. Thieves come in all shapes and sizes. I still think Rudd could be either Pym or Lang. It's hard to call for me. :hmm

He's Lang dude. That is Wright's favorite story. That story is Lang's origin.

Hank Pym is essentially being written out of the main MCU.

That's what I'm leaning towards too. Even though I'd rather Rudd be Pym, I really think Wright intends for him to be Lang.

This is a heist film right? So what would Pym steal? Pym's never really been a thief or a heist guy.

Lang stole the Ant-Man tech, but he's not a malicious dude. He was doing it to try and protect and help his ailing daughter.

So the audience will want to root for Lang because he's trapped by deb and medical bills. In this economy, health care issues, ObamaCare, etc., an audience probably would root for a guy like that. Blue collar electrician, amateur scientist with a sweet daughter with nowhere else to turn gets super powers and uses them to steal money to save his little girl.

That's a hero type we haven't seen before yet. Also a thief. I like it.

Pym has a place in the film to me as the creator of the tech, he should at least be a secondary character. I'm not gonna like if Wright makes him old, though.

He's probably Lang, but I highly doubt Pym is anywhere near being 'written out' of the McU. I could see him having some sort of big behind the scenes role or something until he's finally shown to be in the mix all along.

I don't know much about AntMan outside of the EmH episodes but that To Steal an AntMan was a great episode so I'm more than happy to see that being adapted. Plus.... Paul Rudd!!

mkliban2, why would they make a big solo film to introduce Scott Lang only to usher him out for Hank Pym?

I'm fairly confident or confidently hopeful idk lol, that both Lang and Pym will be in this, and even if it does happen to be a Lang centered film, that doesn't rule out Pym having been involved somehow in the MCU all along or in the mix going forward.

I just think its silly to get down about some aspect already when we literally have almost zero information on the film.

If I recall correctly the "To Steal an Ant Man" epusode of EMH was a Pym centered story with Lang first being an antagonist to Pym then when Pym figures out the whole story he joins force with Lang to help and then Lang goes off to ride into the happy sunset with his kid. So who's to say that's not what will happen in this film (actually what I'm hoping for)
