Ant-Man Paul Rudd is Ant-Man

Marvel Studios are ever the champs at casting charismatic guys in their films, whether he ends up being Lang or Pym I'm happy to have Paul Rudd in the MCU!

If he ends up being Pym I hope they've ditched the 60s hero angle because I'd hate to waste Rudd in old age makeup, at least have him be relevant in the lab and somewhat involved in super antics even if Lang takes up the hero mantle.

As for O'Grady that's some Phase 5 stuff right there, he'll have Danvers to peek at in the shower by then!

I'm fairly confident or confidently hopeful idk lol, that both Lang and Pym will be in this, and even if it does happen to be a Lang centered film, that doesn't rule out Pym having been involved somehow in the MCU all along or in the mix going forward.

I just think its silly to get down about some aspect already when we literally have almost zero information on the film.

If I recall correctly the "To Steal an Ant Man" epusode of EMH was a Pym centered story with Lang first being an antagonist to Pym then when Pym figures out the whole story he joins force with Lang to help and then Lang goes off to ride into the happy sunset with his kid. So who's to say that's not what will happen in this film (actually what I'm hoping for)

That was the EMH episode. And that was after Pym was an established character and had left the Avengers. They aren't going to have dueling Ant-Mans for this franchise. It's going to be Lang. Pym will only serve as a means to an end for the Lang story.

We don't know if it will be Lang, or Pym, or a Lang/Pym package, or Lang in this outing with a happy ending with Pym as the main guy, or Pym as a mentor and Lang as the main guy. Right now anything can happen since we haven't been told yet, my personal option would be Pym as the main guy with Lang in the film for the TSaAM storyline but we also see things Pym has done while the MCU has gone on and that he will be involved going forward. I'm still betting he will have some hand in Ultron, whether that be major or minor is yet to be known, regardless of what Marvel has been telling us.

This is a heist film right? So what would Pym steal? Pym's never really been a thief or a heist guy.

That is where I wonder what Pym's role in the heist comes into play. If Pym and Lang team up like Edgar says then what is in it for Pym?

Planning a heist to rescue Dr. Erica Sondheim from CTE would make sense for Lang.

I wonder if they will mix Janet with Sondhiem making her micro-surgeon and girlfriend of Pym which is why he teams up with Lang.

I doubt it'll be about rescuing Dr. Sondheim (or any other damsel in distress). Lang's motive will probably be what it's always been: make enough money to pay for poor Cassie's operation. Makes for great drama and tugs at the ol' heartstrings.

Pym's motive, if he becomes part of the heist, could simply be to "steal" back his own technology from SHIELD. Pym was supposed to be first referenced in the MCU when Selvig mentioned him as "a friend with previous experience with SHIELD," and that was alluding to Jane's tech getting stolen by SHIELD. Maybe Pym faced the same problem, and that's what the reference in Thor was about.

and so what? I, personally, think you're completely off the mark. but if you're right, why should it be any other way? Ant-Man has been Scott Lang's entire career. he's currently Ant-Man. for Pym, it was just his introduction. he moved on to bigger and better, when he became an Avenger. the suit was collecting dust when he handed it off to Scott. that's how it should happen in the movie universe. they introduce both characters within the Ant-man film; show that Pym was Ant-Man and (for whatever reason) quit. and it will end with Hank and Jan's recruitment into SHIELD. that is the only way you can do this and show proper respect, imo.

the way that Wright has stressed that his film is its own thing, I doubt that SHIELD will be the target. his "homework" also involves the theft of banks. I don't think Pym will be in on the heist. in fact, I more expect it to be centered around getting to know he and Jan as they track down the missing suit. now the thefts themselves might get Pym back on SHIELD's radar. they might task him with preventing more heists. but I'm not really expecting to see SHIELD headquarters; despite the teaser footage of guys in Coulson suits being defenestrated.

to establish Pym as a play by his own rules type (like Stark), you could have him help Scott escape capture; at the end. but then he'd offer his own services to S.H.I.E.L.D; contingent on them recruiting his girlfriend, as well. or Jan could help pay for Cassie's surgery, to establish her as wealthy.

that might come across as a little too convenient, since Scott has already stolen Pym's suit. what are the odds of both he and Jan being involved; independently? and, both, Sondheim and CTE were absent from the Earth's Mightiest cartoon; though they kept Crossfire as a reminder. I honestly can't predict where he's going with this. and it doesn't help that there hasn't been a second casting.

as for the teamup, Pym has a lot to bring to the table. he's the experienced original and a mad scientist. Scott might be quite knowledgeable about breaking into places. but Pym can bring some mad scientist/mission impossible flare to the mission. I can see them both in Ant-Man costumes (Pym's appearing to be a little more classic); trying to impress one another.

That's what I'm leaning towards too. Even though I'd rather Rudd be Pym, I really think Wright intends for him to be Lang.

I think you folks are worrying about nothing. I'm about 99% convinced that Rudd is Pym. I look at him and see Pym. it'd be easier for the actor to play a scientist/affable boyfriend than an ex-con. a name like that is likely to turn up in other Avengers movie. they'd use Pym simply as to not further piss off Avengers fans/make up for the absence of Ultron. because I promise that people will forget all about Pym not creating Ultron once he and the Wasp show up. in my mind, this movie will be about Pym putting his old toys away/regaining his confidence/finding a worthy successor and getting ready to become Giant-Man.

As long as we see more of Rudd's ANt-man in the future I am good.

I thought Nathan Fillion would have been epic in this role, but Paul Rudd is also an awesome choice. I'm glad this movie's gaining traction!

Do you have a link to a new story for any of that? I don't recall ever hearing that Fillion was officially offered any of those roles, or Ant-Man, only rabid fan speculation about casting him.
I guess it's most rumours then. Why would any actor turn down roles in three big superhero films just to stay at a television series :)

He must really like Castle, and he has to actually believe it's better for his career than blockbuster films.

Any idea on the contract length Rudd signed. Like how many movies they locked him into?

Not that I've read. If they didn't even tell us which specific character he's playing it's no surprise we don't have that kind of contract detail info either.

When he first signed, Collider.com speculated we'll be seeing him in Avengers 3.

Usually in Hollywood they sign a lead actor in a blockbuster for the first movie and a two movie sequel option.

Rudd seems like the kind of guy who would be up for making cameos and appearances in various Marvel films and tv shows.

Rudd seems like the kind of guy who would be up for making appearances, in character and in costume, at the Golden Globes, Oscars and NAACP Image Awards, whether the event organizers asked him to do it or not.

Just more reasons why Marvel really got this right.

I could picture him talking to Conan O'Brien promoting the movie going something like this:

Conan O'Brien: What is this clip of Ant Man you have brought with us?
Paul Rudd: It's the first time he dons the suit.
Conan O'Brien: Let's take a look

That makes me want to see Mac, Me and Ant-Man instead of Avengers 3!

I wonder if they are going to make Scott a Janitor like in the A:EMH cartoon or have him work for Stark like in the comics?

Almost exploded when I found out Marvel hooked in Rudd. It's such an unexpected & great casting choice. I won't lie, I haven't ever been the biggest Ant-Man fan but hearing Rudd was cast sparked my interest times a billion (and subsequently prompted me to start doing more research on the character).

All I can think of in regards to this movie is how I see it becoming a certified smash hit.
