People Who Don't Return Shopping Carts Unappreciation Thread

to be fair, back when I started there minimum wage was like $5.25

I think its still only like $7.25 in my area

Do you guys not have the coin operated shopping trolleys?

I've seen something like that in a mall once, a loooong time ago. But in general grocery/department stores, no. Somehow I don't think the notion of having to pay any amount (however small) to use shopping carts in a grocery store would go over very well with the American public, lol.

Well here in the UK you put a £1 coin in the trolley in order to use it.

Most major supermarkets use this.

I think making people deposit a token amount of money to assure they actually return a cart is reasonable. You aren't going to lose that quarter or whatever they charge if you return the cart.

Oh I see, you get the money back. Yeah that makes sense.

The ones I have seen do. It is exactly like a security deposit. If you return the cart you get your money back. If you don't then some other enterprising person might find it instead and get some free change.

You already know people here will get pissed. "It's such an inconvenience!" or "I don't carry any cash!" That's why the major chains here don't already do it. Some people will find a way to get offended at such an act.

:o

It's coin operated in the sense the coin acts as a key, once you lock the trolley up again you get your coin back. Seems to work in my city at least.

Aldi is the only one.

I rarely carry coins on me but it isn't that hard to remember to grab a quarter or two and put them in a pocket or a purse or wallet and have them handy if you think they might be needed.

Just cut your dollar bill in half and shove it into the slot.

All the Tesco near where I live have the magnetic locks so you can't take the shopping carts beyond a certain point.

There is also a magnetic cart lock on the travelator inside the store so your cart doesn't run off.
