Percy Jackson sequel in development

Nope. Fox got Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Hotel for Dogs) to direct the sequel, exercised its sequel rights on the lead actors, and scheduled a March 27, 2013 release date.

Looks like this will happen.
seriously? a movie about greek gods and sh** and they get the guy who did diary of a wimpy kid? and i though Fox was starting to get better.

I didn't like the first movie either it started off really interesting with Zeus and Poseidon arguing but after i saw the part where Percy gets attacked by his teacher i started forwarding it.

I think Fox wanted Columbus to come back and direct, but he decided to step back and just produce this film.

And I wouldn't discount Freudenthal yet. The guy's only done two modestly-budgeted movies, and the studio will get him crew members to help with him with the complex and time-consuming CGI shots. Mind you, Fox likely picked him because he likely had an option with the studio and they wanted someone who can handle a short shooting schedule.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a great movie by the way.

don't get me wrong, I'm GLAD that columbus isn't coming back. i thought his utter lack of any visual imagination is what brought down the first film for me. i was just hoping for somebody with more visual flair to come in and spice up, like when alfonse curon came in after columbus with the third harry potter film. but maybe thor freudenthal will surprise me. he's got an awesome name, I'll give em that lol.

As someone who hasn't read the books but is somewhat familiar with both book and movie, I have to ask- does it screw up the plot to have all the characters aged up? I mean, I saw an ad for "Bereavement" and the awesome rack the girl in that had and assumed it was Diora Baird, but it turned out to be the actress who played Annabelle, who is in her early 20s.

Aren't these characters supposed to be 12?

*sexy snip*

I read the Wikipedia summaries of the next four books. With the exception of the final book (which one aspect can be 'aged up' or changed completely), aging up the characters doesn't make that much of a difference.

Book fans, tell if I'm wrong about this.

the girl in 2011 looks almost the same like she did in 2009. she had already then big........................OO

If I were this kid's uncle, Hades that is, I would give him the same fate as Sisyphus and make him roll a rock up a mountain for eternity instead of letting him make these movies anymore.

Interesting that they are going ahead with Sea of Monsters. It's quite an entertaining book.
There's is only one problem. There are too many random things happening along the course of the story, Percy and his friends stumbeling into monsters too much on the way to their destination. These things are not a part of the plot, but it only come with distraction to the plot. One goes: "Oh not again! Not another monster they have to fight that adds nothing to the actual story."
Are these encounters written in just to give more heat to an otherwise quite dull quest adventure?

Now that they are doing the second film, I wonder if they are going to adapt all five books in the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series. I don't think it's possible unless they change actors soon. The productions move too slow, nothing like Harry Potter.

But I have one idea. What if the writers take away all these quite stupid monster fights and focus only on the core of the story. Then I guess we will get less than one hour of running time, perhaps 55 minutes and around.
You know, that leaves room for adapting the third book as well, into the same film. It's called The Titan's Curse and the important stuff in that book can also be crammed into around 60 minutes.
Right after the visit at the Cyclop's island, the adventure can continue and several new characters can be introduced along the second quest: Bianca, Nico, Artemis, Zoë Nightshade, Apollo and Atlas.
Doing so, it will also force the writers to return to the idea of the books; that Titans are the ones behind the masterplan and not just angry teen Luke (as they did in the first film).

This is only wishful dreaming. The films won't be made like this.
The two final books are difficult to melt together, unless they cut a lot. But the fans would get furious. To them, keeping all the details is more important than having a good film.
But I have a difficulty with the 4th book then. The heroes aren't doing much more than to going down into the labyrinth and facing terrors, then go up outside, then down, then up, then down etc. That can't be done very well on films, it would look too repetitive. The story has to be heavily re-written to suit the film format. And then, perhaps then.... it could be possible to include the battle scenes of The Last Olympian. The whole book just center around it, the upcoming war and then the actual defending of Manhattan. But I guess we won't be that lucky.

There is hope for the second as I thought the first Harry potter was rubbish but I loved the sequel.

You're one of the few. Chamber of Secrets tends to be lauded as slow or too much of the same which is problems the book also had. But enough about that. This movie could be worse than the first one.

i enjoyed the first one for what it was. Ive always been more into Greek mythology than plain ole magic, ala harry potter.

As a MASSIVE, MET THE WRITER OF THE BOOKS, FAN of the books I have to say that this pisses me off in so many ways because the first movie was an absolutely horrible adaption and was a bastardization of what could have been an awesome new movie series. Too bad Fox got there hands on it and ****ed it up, even the writer wants nothing to do with the movies and he openly says that. He sold the rights and that was it. Not like Fox even asked for his opinion, if I recall correctly, for the script.

The writer should warn other writers not to sell their movie rights to Fox.

I wish I could just go back in time and tell marvel not to sell all their properties off. I REALLY want a new FF movie but with marvel at the helm

Actually, that was something I was wondering about, howcome in the comics DrDoom manages to invent himself a time-machine, but Reed Richards doesn't? You'd think he would want to invent one in case anyone messes with the timeline.
anyway, lol, sorry, i just thought it was funny that DrDoom was wishing he had a time machine.

I guess Reed never made one cause he knew how dangerous it could be. Someone could steal it.

Didnt think about dr doom asking for a time machine lol

Nathan Fillion Cast As 'Hermes' In PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE SEA OF MONSTERS

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nathan Fillion will play Hermes in the Thor Freudenthal-directed sequel titled Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters:

"The star of ABC's Castle has joined on to star as Greek diety Hermes in Fox 2000's sequel Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters, based on the second book in Rick Riordan's best-selling young adult book series."

This just went up on my radar. Fillion is involved. I'm there!

Interesting... hmmm...

They did have a lot of random star power in the first film, now that I think about it. Interesting.

But the kids are too old, they should have gone ahead while they had the momentum.
