Peter Pan (2003)

I saw this when I was younger with my sisters and my mother, and I remember enjoying it a lot, I must rewatch it soon.

However, I do remember one section where my head was asking the movie to shut up...."I do believe in fairies, I do, I do....." on repeat nonstop for what felt like 5 minutes in 15-16 year old time.

I enjoyed this movie. I've always been a fan of the Pan.

I would have loved this movie if not for one crucial aspect: the worst actor in the movie was playing the TITLE CHARACTER. It wouldn't have been so bad, had it been a smaller role that was miscast, but this was the character you were going to spend a good chunk of the movie with, so it kind of took me out of the experience.

Everything else in the movie was thoroughly enjoyable, though. The sets, the supporting cast, the costumes, the music, all well done. Unfortunately I'm just going to have to settle for 'like' instead of 'love' for this film. Just that one aspect would have made it all the more enjoyable, had they done it right.

Aw, I thought that Jeremy Sumpter made a very charming Peter :oldrazz:

Fun Fact: The harness that they used for Sumpter to make him "fly" was constantly having to be resized because apparently the kid grew at an astronomical rate.

It makes sense to me that Barrie was simply recording young Wendy and her brothers' adventures with Peter, which happened to all be true.

But Barrie wrote Pan in 1904 and Peter Pan comes to Wendy when she is about 10 or so. And Hook takes place in 1991 so Grandma Wendy would have had to be well over 100 years old in Hook.:o

And it brings up the question of where do the Davies brothers fit into this world where JM Barrie instead got the idea from Wendy and her brothers. Unless Wendy is the fictional sister of the Davies brothers.

Jeremy Sumpter as Peter Pan wasn't very good in this film, his lisp was distracting as well. The scene where everyone was saying they believe in fairies was a bit silly. It's like they were trying to translate the play where Peter asks everyone in the audience if they believe in fairies they need to clap their hands. In a film having Peter asking everyone to clap their hands in a movie audience would of been weird. Having Mr. Darling saying I believe in fairies during a board room meeting was a little to weird. Jason Isaacs Hook was was pretty good. The thing that threw me off with the film was how the sets and lighting looked like a stage play, that it didn't look like a real world. They were trying to have it have the look of the original stage play, with the stage lighting and set construction, but I'd love to see a Peter Pan movie where it looked like a real place.

A Peter pan movie where it looked like a real place? The vast majority of this film takes place in Neverland and it's suppose to be over the top and extremely colorful. I loved everything about it. You want a realistic looking Neverland? You must be joking.

And I agree Pickles. I really liked Jeremy Sumpter as Peter Pan.

I really liked this film. Rachel Hurd-Wood was the perfect Wendy, but the production design, music and sound design are even better. I had no idea it was shot in Australia until I saw the end credits -- Donald McAlpine can do no wrong. He's one of the best cinematographers, bar none.

I saw this in the theatres when it was released, and I was blown away by the film, the visuals and the story and everything.
This was one of the first family-friendly fantasy films, if not THE first, to come out just when HP/LOTR had re-started the genre. Way before Stardust, Golden Compass, Dark is Rising, Narnia, even Lemony Snicket,
And there is actually a Potter feel to this Peter Pan.

I don't agree with people who think Jeremy Sumpter is wrong in the role. He's perfect in this version, where the character was made a little older (close to hit puberty?). It was also a brave move to have him appear without his typical green clothing that's been in earlier adaptions.
Dustin Hoffman was good too in his film, with a a more picture-perfect look to the animated version. But Jason Isaacs is playing in a different league. There's a bigger element of danger to Hook here, which is a really good thing.

I love this movie, but I had always been fairly obsessed with all things Peter Pan. I actually saw this movie in theaters when I was already in college. I enjoyed everything about it, especially the overall look of the movie and Isaacs as Hook. I really need to watch this again soon. Now I am pissed that all of my movies are packed up (moving next week).
