So it'll be about 20 years after the third film then if he is.

I am curious about this one. I just think that it all depends how good it is. Because the last one came out in 2011, and to me it was a dud, it's almost seen as a forgotten sequel. People remember the 2nd and 3rd film though!

I hope they know how much is riding on this one. But for Disney, if it underperforms, it's not like they can't afford to drop this franchise.

Between Star Wars, Marvel, Live Action Remakes, Pixar and Animated features. They technically don't need to do anything else.

Yeah, I felt like when they greenlit the film, it was right when Disney bought out Lucasfilm, and the production was just too knee deep to turnaround.

What I admire about Disney is that they'll green light weird projects, like 2016's Pete's Dragon, which is an amazing film. Because they can afford it and take the loss if it doesn't do well.

Same thing with their Wrinkle in Time. What a diverse and bold cast.

The only thing original are their animated films. I can appreciate that but I feel like the animation aspect is the only reason they do it. If Moana was live action, no ****ing way would that have been made.

I don't understand all this hate for that "forgotten sequel", as you call it. Was it perfect? No, it wasn't. It would have been better if the zombies looked like in the concept artwork, and not as normal looking immortal guys with weird tattoos. It would have been better if there was at least one naval battle in the film. At least the flashback where the Queen Anne's Revenge attacks the Black Pearl, if nothing else. It would have been better if Blackbeard had a chance to be a better villain and more evil. They brought Blackbeard just to be killed at the end. It was just too rushed and so wrong. For God's sake, he's not some ordinary thief. He's one of the most famous pirates in history. But even with all those flaws, On Stranger Tides became the second film in the series to gross over $1 billion. If that's not worth remembering, what is?

I think it was a movie that was sorta liked but as time went on, epically with this 5-6 year gap, the more people are sorta indifferent towards it. While Pirates 2 and 3 get hate on, at least there's an emotional response to them whille part 4 just..doesn't hit the right notes.

It's completely watchable, but nothing really happens. Jack and his crew are just walking around the jungle for the majority of the second act, the movie was shot very flatly (the Red Epic was brand new so no one knew how to handle it), the villain was misused, and I can go on.

I think people wanted something more small and simple, away from the bombastic antics of the previous sequels, but then Rob Marshall wasn't the guy to handle something like this. He didn't deliver, at least to me. In fact, On Stranger Tides made me like part 2 and 3 a bit more.

I'd very much disagree POTC4 is unwatchable. Just so boring and forgettable.

I am very curious how this will do as well. It really is a wild card where I can see both trains of thought to whether this is successful or not.

Mission Impossible has been lucky because ever since part 3, each movie knew it had to please the audience in new inventive ways, despite the similar plots of Ethan Hunt going rogue.

So..I'm not against Pirates 5, but this movie needs to be good, and I'm happy with these new directors. I can see Pirates 5 making money, but maybe not as much as the others IF it's just an average sequel. And I'm saying the same thing with Transformers 5, which is more of a wild card quality wise.

Haha, I was being nice in my response but it's a dull film.

I like the fourth but for all the grief I give the third, the fourth makes you appreciate it. Verbinski is such an underrated director. The man knows how to create images, scenes and moments and string them together to make something memorable despite the quality. And when the quality is great like The Ring, the first Pirates and Rango, and what could be for A Cure for Wellness, the guy does wonders. He has a very unique eye.

For when I complain about the stupid Calypso scene, I remember there's a finale ship battle in a hurricane where Will and Elizabeth get married in the middle of it. I mean ****, the fourth film didn't have great ideas like that.

I thought the final battle in the fourth one was fun but the rest of the film is really bad.

I can't even remember the final battle in the fourth one except for the villain's death.

I can't either honestly. I don't really remember any of the action from On Stranger Tides, where as with At World's End I instantly remember The final battle and the up is down scene, and Dead Man's Chest I remember the Kraken scenes and the Triple Threat Wheel fight.

The only scene in On Stranger Tides that really holds up to anything from the first three was the mermaid attack.

Don't mind the directors. It's the writer, Jeff Nathanson, that gives me pause. He writes generic blockbusters. And you have people getting excited over Bardem, but another evil captain with a grudge against Sparrow feels repetitive.

Yeah I remember nothing of On Stranger Tides save for the last lines which I liked.

I'm curious to see what they have David Wenham doing. Otherwise, not really interested in this. I'm pretty tired of Depp's shtick as Jack Sparrow, he just does the same stuff over and over, and it's gotten pretty stale.

And the irony is that you can't really have a Pirates movie without Sparrow, otherwise it's a generic movie about pirates. So when your primary draw has become a tiresome schtick, it's hard to win here.

That's who and the way Sparrow is. He isn't going to change into another character with different looks and personality.

I think it's the nuance of the character that is gone. In the first Pirates, it was weird, daring, new, and inventive. Then he sorta was coasting with every sequel. And it's hard to explain, but it's just the minuet details in his later performances.
