Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

The trailer was surprisingly decent (refreshingly not chock-full of CGI). Hopefully it turns out better than what is expected.

Opinions change all the time. As mentioned, Temple of Doom was reviled when it was released and now those that grew up with it have strong positive feelings for it. Back to the Future: Parts II and III both were torn apart by fans at the time and now the trilogy as a whole is beloved. Let's check back in 10 years and see where this trilogy truly stands.
I dislike ToD and BTTF2 and extremely 3...terrible movie. I thought PoTC3 was just okay so I don't think I am going to love it in 10 years. It wasn't a terrible movie and neither was ToD or BTTF2 but those are all clearly the low point of the series.

I loved Dead Man's Chest. But PoTC3 was just a culmination of all things dumb and illogical and it destroyed all the great things they set up in Dead Man's Chest.

The Pirates trilogy had a storyline that had a lot of potential, but it was poorly executed. Could have been great, but had some mishaps along the way

Though At World's End has, ironically enough, the best score out of them.

I recently found an appreciation for the POTC films. When I was younger I found them as dumb incomprehensible average summer flicks. I didn't even finished the first POTC and didn't even bother watching the sequels during that time. I caught the second POTC on television the other day and surprisingly, I was able to follow through the plot's twists and turn. At the end of DMC I thought, "Damn that was fun." I rented AWE the next day and I really like it too.

Lets not get carried away now. Davey Jones to this day is one of the best CG characters to ever touch the silver screen.

If you want bad or shoddy CGI check out Wolverine Origins.

2 and 3 had great CGI.

Indeed! Some of the best CGI in the past decade.

Indeed, I might even go as far as saying THE best! Although...i'm sure that isn't true.

Uhh...indeed.

I'd say that Davy Jones is definitely the best ever to grace his presence on the silver screen.

People need to look at this like at Part 1, I mean it is an opening of a new trilogy, the trailer maybe nothing amazing, but you can tell the movie has huge potential.

It probably will be better received than part 2 and 3 and feel more "fresh" again... seeing all the mermaids and zombies...

I'll never like AWE. It is not a matter of growing on me. The film was just bad. Bad on a variety of levels. AWE is a major reason I am not that psyched for this movie. I'm waiting for reviews on this one. Loved CotBP and DMC...but AWE was just THAT awful.

I agree. Davey Jones looked amazing and will still look amazing 15 years from now. They did an excellent job and I would agree that he is easily one of the best, if not the best, fully CGI character to ever touch the silver screen.

I think it's a little different comparing films done in the 70s, 80s even the 90s as opposed to the last decade. Movies like Temple of Doom got mixed reviews according to wikipedia but grew on people. No one really saw Shawshank Redemption but now most people swear by that movie.

Of course the opposite happens, everyone seemed to love Titanic yet at least in the limited research I've done people seem to have turned on it.

To my point, waiting 10 years from say Temple of Doom back in 1984 is different than waiting ten years from AWE now. More movies are released now, there are more critics out there, there's the internet, movies come to your home within 4 months of their theatrical release. I think we are bombarded by SO many movies that a movie has to be pretty special to people to do a 180 on it.

I can at least understand why people would be dissapointed with PotC2 and 3, but not why people would hate, or even dislike them. I mean thery're much better films than most of the summer blockbuster sequils/ adaptions. Muumy 3, The last airbender. those are terrible movies. You can't really put the pirate sequels on the same level as those movies. They at least had allot of good things going for them, like the score, actors, cgi (it was good, maybe even great, whether u thought there was too much or not.) and more.

I just want to see some mermaids...they are in pirate lore and I think we need to see some hot mermaids. Could have a funny moment when someone makes a comment at the behind on that mermaid and it ends up being a manatee with seaweed on its head.

That was back on 8-27-2007

I want to think Disney listened to me.

This trailer was definitely better than GL's and Thor's. It got me excited for the film, where the other two trailers didn't. I'm still seeing those two, but I just plain liked this trailer. Nothing fancy, just exciting.

I was introduced to the Indiana Jones films only a few years ago. After watching them Temple of Doom was immediately my favorite. It had nothing to do with growing up with it, because I certainly didn't.:o
