I am glad they brought back Hans Zimmer for the music, one of my fave parts of the series was the music he did in parts 2 and 3 using bits from the guy who did part 1 Klaus Badelt.
Looks fine. I like how it's in continuity with the other films, but not as much. Seems more in line with the first. The cinematography in AWE got stale.
I never liked how in A World's End, it was overly violent when those two Asian twins died in the beginning. One got shot in the head. Is that okay in a movie that is suppose to appeal to a broad audience?
I thought Pirates 3 started out great too. I still really like the hanging scene. It just went down hill after that though.
Curse of the Black Pearl - 9/10
Dead Man's Chest - 7/10
At World's End - 8/10
What I liked about AWE is that I was expecting a Disney-style happy ending with Will and Elizabeth getting married, her father all happy and Pintel & Raggety all dressed up for the ocassion. But no, they killed Elizabeth's father, which I tought was a nice move. But yeah, if it wasn't for Barbossa, the whole "I don't think this is the best time", I would definitely vomit that scene.
I enjoyed Keira in the films and think that she is a very underrated actress but her characters botched storyline is over so I don't mind her or Bloom not being in it.I needs some Kiera...![]()
Agreed wholeheartedly. But it was Disney trying way too hard to be something they're not. If POTC owes debt to any franchise before it...well it'd be 2. The basic formula came from Star Wars, but the tone owes more to Indiana Jones. It should be light, fun, sunny and smart entertainment.
Instead with AWE (and to a lesser extent, DMC) they went for a LOTR tone of bloated epic full of tragedy. And it idd not fit this story. The ending of Will and Elizabeth kissing at sunset overlooking the sea in COTBP was the perfect ending for their story. This was a pure Disney movie and that was the perfect feel-good-ending.
Going for their story ending in tragedy in AWE was beyond lame. It felt forced. It did not feel poignant or thought-provoking. It felt dishonest and like the filmmakers cheated somehow in an attempt to stir up bittersweet emotions. I thought it did not work with this material. Not at all.
God, A World's End blew. (Ribbing on Doc Ock)
Actually that was Zimmer all along..t:
Yeah...Seriously though? Who is Hans Zimmer anymore? Because Gladiator sounds a lot like Pirates. So Klaus Badelt goes from being a sound engineer to a full fledged composer?
Hans Zimmer is:
Klaus Badelt
Harry-Gregson Williams
John Powell
Steve Jablonsky
Ramin Djawadi.
And more to follow.
I'd give all three films 9's or 10's...![]()
