Pete Docter's Next Pixar Movie Will Take Place In...
Published at: Dec 06, 2011 12:27:00 PM CST
Nordling here.
Earlier this year at the D23 Expo, Pixar revealed some of the movies they have coming in the next few years, and one of the ideas was very intriguing - a film set inside the human mind. And that's all we got. No idea of the plot, or characters (if any), just that it would be Pete Docter's directorial follow-up to UP and that it was coming sometime in the future, probably 2014. It sounded like a film that Pixar had never done before, but they're always breaking new ground with their films, so that's no surprise.
Well, John Lasseter recently told Charlie Rose a little more about the film, and the premise sounds unique, to say the least. Docter's new film would indeed take place inside the mind - of a little girl, according to Lasseter. He stated, "It is about her emotions as characters, and that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen."
Very curious to say the least. Is the girl a young child or a teenager? What would her emotions look like? I doubt Pixar would go the cliché route of rainbows and unicorns. It's also nice to see another film that won't be for the boys. Will the story be able to sustain a feature-length film? Knowing these guys, I'd say that's a yes. It's good to see that Pixar is still pushing those limits, and I can't wait to see what they have cooked up.
Nordling, out.

Pixar Announce Their 2014 & 2015 Films

By Garth Franklin Wednesday April 25th 2012 08:15AM

Disney•Pixar have issued a press release about their upcoming projects after "Brave" this year and "Monsters University" next year. In the process came a few new tidbits of information.
First up the previously untitled Bob Peterson-helmed dinosaur film now has a name, "The Good Dinosaur", and a release date of May 30th 2014. The premise is based on the idea that the cataclysmic asteroid that wiped out the giant dinosaurs didn't arrive - as a result they never became extinct.
Then there's first word on a new project from "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich which is being described as a "wholly original Pixar Animation Studios film that delves into the vibrant holiday of Día de los Muertos". It currently has a "Dia de los Muertos" working title and rough 2015 date, however both could well change.
Finally the untitled Pete Docter-direct film has been pushed back a year to June 19th 2015. The only detail of the story is the same log line we've been hearing for some time - that the action will be set in the world inside the human mind.

‘Toy Story 3’ Writer Michael Arndt Penning “Wildly Ambitious” Peter Docter Film About The Formation Of Ideas
Drew Taylor said:
The other, more mysterious project is from Pete Docter (the co-Director is Ronnie del Carmen) and scheduled to arrive on May 30, 2014. This is the mystery project that Pixar teased a few months ago. We reached out to our contacts in the animation world recently and we can fill you in on what we know.

According to the official statement, the movie will be produced by Jonas Rivera and directed by Docter, but what they aren’t telling you is that, according to our source, the script is being supplied by “Little Miss Sunshine”/”Toy Story 3” writer Michael Arndt. The current logline provided at D23 says that the film takes place “inside the human mind,” but we were told, more specifically, that it’s about the formation of ideas. It’s being described to us as “wildly ambitious” (even by the admittedly high Pixar standards) which means, hopefully, that all that cash being brought in by “Cars 2” pajamas can be funneled into producing something truly wild and unique. We wish we could have shared this info earlier, but here it is now.

Keep in mind that both of these movies will follow the already announced “Brave” (next summer) and “Monsters University” (summer 2013), and those looking for some fresh, super genius Pixar product after the recent sequel-heavy slate, will be very, very happy.

The Next Film From The Director Of Up And Monsters Inc. Is Called The Inside Out – At Least For Now
Brendon Connelly said:
In the summer, Pixar will be releasing the prequel to Monsters Inc., heading into the hallowed halls of Monsters University with young Mike and young Sully. It was directed by Dan Scanlon, making this the first “two” from the studio to not share a director with its respective “one.”

Well, presuming you count a prequel as a “two” and not a “zero.”

The director of Monsters Inc. was Pete Docter, and while his furry creations are moving out and going to university without him, he’s busy at work on his third feature, another original.

There’s been no official announcement of its title, and Disney have only referred to it as The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind.

John Lasseter described the set up like this:

The emotions of this little girl are the characters and it takes place in the head of this little girl, and shows how they control things that go on.
A little bit Herman’s Head, a little bit Numbskulls?

We’ve now heard that the film is on the verge of getting an official title and that title is almost certainly going to be The Inside Out.

That title hasn’t yet been cleared, but it’s the one Pixar want. Barring any problems with getting the name okayed, we can probably expect it to be announced soon.

Incidentally, once my source told me this title, I Googled around to see if I could find any mention of it. I found one.

Seems that the title was used just this week by Stefano Bethlen, Disney’s head of distribution in Italy, when speaking to Primissima.

That’s enough corroboration for me, so there we go. Pete Docter’s next is The Inside Out – at least for now.

Pete Docter’s Untitled Film
And then Pete Docter… is working on the next one. We don’t have the title for it yet, but it takes place in the mind. Pete has this way of constantly trying to figure out something that we’re all familiar with in some way… he’s constantly looking for these kinds of things. You look at people oftentimes and they do something to make you go “What are they thinking?” or it’s like how a song gets stuck in your head and you just can’t get it out. Little quirky thing alike this that we all do. Certain emotions just seem to take us over, anger or happiness, where you start giggling and laughing and you can’t stop. He thought “I want to take a look at that, explain that.” His idea is that the emotions of this little girl are the characters and it takes place in the head of this little girl, and shows how they control things that go on. It’s very, very clever and it’s truly unlike anything you’ve ever seen, yet it explains things you’ve seen.
Well, “explains” at least. But it sounds like a lot of fun, and I’m sure Pixar can do better than The Numbskulls or Herman’s Head quite comfortably.

Announced a few years back and given the release date of June 19, 2015 at CinemaCon last year, Pete Docter's follow-up to the Oscar-winning Up has been referred to by the bulky title of Untitled DisneyPixar Inside The Mind Film for the past few months, but ComingSoon.net has now learned that Pixar Animation Studios has settled on a new title for the movie and it is...

Inside Out

Disney should be making an announcement shortly confirming this.

We've already known from the get-go that the movie will go inside the human mind, but we got our hands on a brief synopsis that gets a bit more specific with the intriguing tidbit that the film is "told from the perspective of the emotions inside the mind of a little girl."

We haven't been able to get official confirmation on that last part but going by the initial art released for the film last year (and seen above), that makes sense since the pictured character is indeed a girl. If this proves to be true than this will be the second Pixar film following last year's Brave with a main female protagonist.

UPDATE 12 PM: Pixar has announced a title for previous The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind. It is now called Inside Out. The movie, said director Pete Docter and producer Jonas Rivera, will still venture into the mind with some hot comic actors playing the emotions of 11-year-old girl Riley. Lewis Black will voice Anger, Bill Hader (also a voice in the upcoming The Good Dinosaur) will play Fear, Mindy Kaling is Disgust and Phyllis Smith will voice Sadness.

Yay mindy kahling! I'm so glad she's getting famous.

This sounds really unique and classic pixarish before they decided to do sequels all the time. Can't wait

Eh. Somewhat, but not quite.

Yeah they're going with talking brain cells, just manifestations of thought within the human mind. It's all abstract and stuff.

I am super excited about this Pixar film. It's shaping up to be one of the most unique animated film ever made by Pixar.

I really really love the character designs of Fear, Sadness, Joy, Disgust and Anger.

Yeah, this is easily the future Pixar movie I'm most interested in at the moment.

This movie needs to kick some fantastic ass opening weekend

Seriously, this has so much potential for greatness.

This is my most anticipated upcoming Pixar movie. Their last few have been up-and-coming directors and those films weren't as good, but this is Pete 'Up, Monsters Inc' Docter. I hope this is a return to form for the studio
