Animation Pixar's Coco

Well luckily Pixar has yet to do the live-action remake route (most likely cause their films are so specific to animation). I hope they get to keep more integrity than Disney at that.

Disney has already shifted into turning their 3D animated movies into live action with Moana, albeit prematurely thanks to one Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Dreamworks caved with How to Train Your Dragon which makes me think a live action Shrek isn't out of the question.

I would hope that Pixar is protective enough of their IPs to resist the urge for live action remake cash grabs but at the same time they're making a Coco 2 and they keep milking Toy Story so who even knows anymore.

If they go that route there are obvious ones that just wouldn't work at all in live action, like A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo and Cars because those would just be pure nightmare fuel. But a live action Incredibles, Ratatouille or Up born out of pure desperation? Not the unlikeliest scenario in Disney or Pixar's future.

Hmmm…I wouldn’t mind returning to that world but I still got mixed feelings. 2029 is around when they said they plan to have that new Coco ride done at Disneyland so synergy…

Luckily, Pixar still seems to either wait for the original creator to spark to an idea for a sequel, or at the very least get their blessing. I mean, Lee Unkrich is returning for Coco 2 even after retiring from Pixar.

Toy Story seems to be their free for all though. I know John Lassiter had been very involved with 4 up to a point. Obviously not anything further than that.

I can’t speak to all of Pixar’s recent original offerings as I haven’t seen them all, but I feel like they’re only ever going to get out of this rut they’ve been in by putting the past behind them completely and devoting 100% of their creative energy to making the next Wall-E or Toy Story… rather than making Wall-E 2 or Toy Story 57.

But when most of the game is arousing the shareholders, what can you do?

I mean, they have created a lot of originals in the past 5 years; Onward, Soul, Luca, Turning Red, Elemental, Elio.

And only 2 sequels/spinoffs within that same period; Lightyear, Inside Out 2.

The next 5 years might be reversed on that though.

Coming up there's Toy Story 5, Coco 2 and Incredibles 3 as far as sequels go, with no official release date for Incredibles 3.

If placating the shareholders is what they're worried about, they might as well just keep churning out Cars movies since those pretty much only existed to sell merchandise anyway.

I guess I'm more surprised that we're getting a Coco 2 before a third Finding Nemo or Monsters Inc.

Andrew Stanton’s directing Toy Story 5 and a live-action film I believe, so he may not want to hand that off to someone else until he’s free.

Monsters 3 with an adult Boo would be huge. But I guess that’s up to Pete Docter who’s passed off his sequels to others so far.
