Pixar's SOUL

Yeah it looks like the whole Disney Plus release strategy was not very successful with Mulan which is kind of what most of us thought anyways.

You just can't release these big budget movies on streaming and expect big returns and it makes way more financial sense to just push everything back, because the theatres is where the movies are the most successful even with the pandemic going on and if they were smart they would do the same thing with this movie.

Mulan was clearly a disaster and Disney failed at every turn with that. You can't release a movie like that at $29.99 and expect people to pay for it on a streaming Disney service that people ALREADY paid for. Not to mention releasing it for free on that same service THREE MONTHS LATER AND ANNOUNCING AS SUCH! They really dropped the ball there.

This sucks. I wanted to see Soul in a theater, but I understand. This is the world now.

Disney losing so much money this year. I feel bad for its employees. I know it’s easy to hate on Disney for being a soulless corporation that sanitizes everything, but they still employ thousands of hardworking people depending on a paycheck.

I mean not everyone at Disney is an ultra rich executive. People with families work there too and they are probably hurting a lot right now just like everyone else. I mean even one of their top PR people was furloughed a while back. It's happening all across the board.

Mulan failed because of Mulan. If it was a Marvel or Starwars movie, people would’ve paid 29$ (in my country it would‘ve been only 5€ more compared to a blockbuster movies in the cinema)
Outside Asia and a few cinema-nerds not many people wanted to see a chinese fairy tale. Also with so many things missing from the animated movie. Honestly I can‘t think of someone I know, who planned to see the movie in cinemas, when it wasn‘t delayed

Umm New Mutants wasn't a huge success so as Dark phoeniX last year pre covid... Solo underperformed. It varies.

I mean Mulan was expected to do huge business overseas with a highly international cast.

Mulan still would have made close to a billion if it were released in theaters everywhere and things were normal.

It's even one of the better reviewed live-action movies in recent years, if I'm not mistaken.

I assume you mean live-action remakes by Disney?

Thinking about it I really hate Soul won't be seen on the big screen, it really deserved it. It feels like something families, not just black ones, could have made an outing of.

Kind of sad that Disney’s first Asian led movie and first Black led animated movie don’t get a theatrical release. I was hoping that if Soul is as good as it looks, they would’ve moved it to next summer. It would’ve done great business I bet. Ah, well.

I think Disney made the right decision, even if I prefered a 10-15 USD PVOD. Next summer will the same situation like now.

I try to low my expectations to that movie because I still get an awesome experience viewing this.
I hope it confirms the praise it gets.
