The reason Death Proof was awesome is because it's exactly what a B-Movie is like, usually has a big star within a rather poorly budgeted film in which they filled the scenes in between the one or two action sequences they had with needless banter.

bull s--t. I already explained this, sir. Death Proof is not a Grindhouse film. Grindhouse films don't have people talking for an hour without anything happening. True, there wasn't the budget for action scenes but there was enough of a budget for fights scenes, sex, and nudity. Just go watch Coffy and Foxy Brown for example!

Deathproof=Amazing, the car scenes awesome...

What in god's name is wrong with you people? A little bit of violence and **** and you completely glance over an amazing movie like Death Proof? Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Planet Terror like I enjoy most of Rodriguez's movies by disconnecting myself from the story, and just enjoying it scene by scene however, he doesn't ever actually make a good movie, perhaps it's because he's a lousy scriptwriter. Planet Terror isn't even really a B-Movie, B-Movies were B-Movies because they didn't have a budget, so there wasn't death and blood every 5 seconds. The reason Death Proof was awesome is because it's exactly what a B-Movie is like, usually has a big star within a rather poorly budgeted film in which they filled the scenes in between the one or two action sequences they had with needless banter. However Quentin Tarrantino uses these spots to display hilarious banter as well as delving deeper into the characters so that we actually give a **** about them. In the first half, we're sadden that these characters are ripped from it and aren't even able to finish their character arcs, which leads to the most awesome ending ever! The second bit is simply Quentin's control of the camera, is awesome! My friend and I jaws were on the floor by the end of the movie since everyone was saying how much better Planet Terror compare to Death Proof when it was the opposite.

But his banter is no better than those B-movies to come before. The dialogue is atrociously BORING, and has entirely misplaced "stylish" for insessantly vulgar. It's entirely disinteresting, and the characters are loathsome at best.

Loathsome? I liked this because it gave Quentin the chance to experiment with a flawed plot structure in much the same way it gave Micheal Mann a chance to experiment with Miami Vice. I mean in the begninning of Death Proof you have these normal characters... The self-absorbed and obnoxious ****, the snobby needs-to get laid one, and the jealous *****. Then you have stunt-man mike, that king of cool... As that story flows, you get to like the characters for their idiosycrancies, as well as enjoying the f'ing cheese of it all, then is displayed the ill car that's death proof. Halfway through these characters arcs, there violently killed, leaving much hate for Stuntman Mike... There something savage in that, I like how if you dig a little deeper there some wonderful subtext and really gives you a feeling for death and how it is, in that sense of life being cut short.

However, here is where the flawed plot structure works in, the next 3 characters are more or less periphery since this is just the death of stunt-man mike, and revenge on that character. Like I know it creates that disconnect because it sort of like two mini-movies in one but by being a self-proclaimed B-Movie it gives it an excuse to do something cool like this. And now in this second half your introduced to three new women who you also grow to like and truely hope they don't meet the same demise as the last three women, leading to the ultimate satisfaction at the kick ass ending. Also Stuntman Mike turning out to be a big ***** was awesome. I can completely understand why people didn't like it, but I felt Quentin took a real risk here and push his talents, instead of just doing the same ol'same thing which is what Robert Rodriguez did... As per usual terrible story which is jsut an excuse for cool action scenes.

I loved them both, but I didn't like the ending of Death Proof. It made me depressed.

Saw DP today and thought it was amazing, loved the car scene's, especially with NO CGI. KT was awesome as well! Cant compare it to PT yet as it doesnt come out until November!

Plus all the girls were sexy as hell!

I enjoyed DP,though not a great film it was a decent film. After seeing the unrated/unedited version I thought it made it a better film overall. Gave ya more of a glimpse of what kind of man 'stuntman' Mike was,and how messed up in the head he was. Plus the 'lapdance' scene that was edited out for theatres was quite good :)
Im just curious on what PT has instore for us when it comes out on dvd. Now hopefully when PT comes out they will come out with a box(alla kill bill) to put both movies in.

I haven't seen PT yet I can't say which is better.

Thanksgiving pwns Planet Terror and Death Proof both.

I loved the turnaround of Mike being shown as a bad-ass wannabe that's really just a coward when it comes down to it and the overall theme that you should keep your ego in chieck because there's always a bigger bad-ass out there than you; but I agree with the other poster that the women in the second half weren't particular likeable and there was too much useless banter; Kim in particular was an arrogant ***** that annoyed the hell out of me, and I thought the scene at the diner was fine but the scene in car where they're blabbing on about Aby's b/f cheating on her and etc... imo was horrible. I know he wants to make relateable people with scenes that aren't entirely plot driven, I just don't think he did a very good job of making me care about them.
Neil Marshall did a perfect job of establishing and developing very flawed, but still likeable women in The Descent; the women in DP were just plain irritating, I never really liked them.

That said, Russell does a great job of carrying the movie and I still really like the film overall.

Last week I saw a movie theater in Tokyo that was showing the separate, full-length versions of both movies from Grindhouse. I was tempted to go see them, but since Japanese movie tickets are about $18.00 a pop, I figured I'd just wait to see the long versions on DVD.

Planet Terror is better in my eyes, more **** going on and its got some cool action and effects :D Death proof would be great with out the chit chat

I like Planet Terror better but in the end, neither movie, IMO, works on its own. Both movies are extremely good...together. Separated, they lose the appeal and point of why they were made. At best, they are mediocre on their own. I will not buy either movie until they are joined as Grindhouse.

He lives in the UK. It's out in Nov. over there.

Yep

I will be getting the full cut of both, havent seen PT yet, but from the trailer it just looks like a movie i would love, and Michael Biehn is in it, my hero from the 80's, i'll watch almost anything with him in.

Planet Terror...all around good movie..fun to watch.....the creepy zombie elements was great.....

DP....very boring until the the chase starts...then ends with a ass kicking...

^I didnt think it was that boring, and the anticipation made the 2 pay-off's that much more satisfying IMO.

Thanksgiving and don't were better than both.....

I voted for planet terror by the way, it was more fun.
