Playstation Home Official Thread

Well I am not going to complain since it is a free service but it is rather tiresome looking forward to it. When it comes it comes.

SAME HERE, THOUGH I DO UNDERSTAND THAT IT MUST BE VERY COMPLICATED TO GET A SERVICE LIKE HOME UP AND RUNNING SMOOTHLY, SO IF THEY NEED MORE TIME, SO BE IT!!!:o;):D

Oh Im glad its free and will most likely enjoy it when it comes out, but Im not putting my hopes up anymore. When it comes out, I'll believe it when I see it, bc they keep delaying it. I think its best that I dont expect it to come in fall.

I agree that waiting for Home to come out gets old, but it is a free service, it's not like I'm waiting for MGS4 or something.

However I will say that since we've waited this long, I don't mind waiting if they are fixing bugs. After all the delays, I think I'd be more ticked if it came out incomplete. If waiting a few more months mean it'll be polished, I can wait.

I remember seeing one demo of one of the Home houses entitled "Haunted house" or something like that, furniture was flying all over the room. To me it looks like they have collision detection, graphics, and all down. It just seems like they need to work on the physics, placing, and probably still have a few other bugs to work out.

Edit - However something tells me their saving the Home reveal for a big show. What's the next video game or Sony show again?

I THINK E3 IS NEXT MONTH, IN MAY, IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN, SO WHO KNOWS MAYBE WE'LL HEAR SOMETHING THEN!!!:D:up:

Playstations Home's Public Areas Region Locked
July 17, 2008

We were given a pretty in-depth walkthrough of the current state of Home, including a couple of game spaces (images of those later), during which we asked the bloke as many questions as we could think of. Top of our list? Making sure that we would be able to meet up with our friends all across the planet in the various public spaces. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Home's public spaces are going to be region-specific.

If you want to meet up with your pals from abroad, then you'll be able to invite them into your apartment, but warping into the game space to bowl or play chess is not possible. This is allegedly to make sure that each region receives an "experience most suited to their tastes" as well as, no doubt, to keep advertisers happy. The last thing they want is Europeans seeing an advert directed at Americans.

The Home Beta will be made available to Europe and the US simultaneously, it was revealed last night.

During a press conference in Santa Monica, SCEE President, David Reeves, said the online 3D community service would arrive "with the same specs, same support and at the same time in autumn 2008". He went on to say that an exact date for its release would be announced by SCEI "very shortly".

Home has been delayed by almost a year from its original launch date. The service creates a virtual social environment to interact with other PS3 users, launch online games such as Warhawk, play mini-games such as bowling and pool, share private content and show off your personal space customised with furniture, wallpaper and other items.

Jack Tretton insisted that "your patience will be more than rewarded" during Sony's E3 press conference on Tuesday.

Home is pointless now since Microsoft has their own version of it.
and that affects PS3 users how? Not that it mattetrs but what MS has to offer and what Sony plans on offering are 2 completely different approaches

PS3 Home is Xbox Community hidden within The Sims.

I stand corrected. I just watched the MS conference in its entirety and the new Xbox interface does seem like a rip off of Home

Wait, XBL is gonna have there own verison of this? Sweet!

sweet leaping jesus... this looks incredible.

i seriously can't wait for this. i can already see myself spending hours just customizing my avatar and apartment.

Hopefully, just hoepfully, we will finally get a chance to use it this fall

Kinda, but not really, it's much closer to what the Wii currently has. Home is like an MMO, it's in game world is much more like a DC Online. The 360 Mii-60 or whatever deal is similar in creating a character, and using a character to interact with others in some games (I think), but there is no in game world. Home on the other hand will have things like a movie theatre mock up (where you can buy or rent movies like you would in PSN), you will also have your own room you can design and show off your trophies or invite friends into. On top of that Home will have features like that mini map deal for Warhawk where you can bring 8 friends in and move plastic army men around while making a strategy.

Both look good, but Home IMO is on a different lvl. However because of that it's making them take forever to deliver :(.

and this is free, too?

awesome.

Yup. Only problem is it keeps getting delayed. We get our hopes up then it gets delayed a few more months, it's almost a year overdue now lol. However more rumors say it will be out this year, but again I don't have my hopes too high for that.

I think part of it tho is their holding off to make sure in game XMB is stable as well. Home will use it, actually to my understanding we'll even be able to share stuff inside of Home as well (tho I doubt music and movies or Sony will have lawyers all over them like Napster had). We'll be able to invite friends into our rooms and stuff, so in game friends list probably needed to be ironed out first as well.

I will say one thing tho, I'm fine with the basic room. If they have a pay to upgrade your house deal then I skip on it. I'll just make due with whatever basic clothes, room, and furniture they give you.

I guess it's just a question of, do people want the straight functionality or the virtual community? The Xbox community pretty much has every function that Home has, all the connectivity with other people, watching movies, going into games, etc.. Just without all of the MMO/The Sims aspects.

Maybe it's just me, because I have no interest in MMO games, but I think Sony is overworking Home and making it much larger then it needs to be, which is causing them a lot of delays. How many times will you and your friends go and explore the Uncharted room or whatever, before it gets boring?

What if gets cancelled?
theres no way its getting cancelled. Sony has poured alot of time and money into this, not to mention all the hype and press its built up. Alot is riding on it and they arent going to just can it
