Plot Hole Of The Week Thread

I always assumed that the distortion was part of the bullet time effect rather than heat vision.... ie. heat vision has almost always been done in slow mo

I guess it's a bit of both. The effect is most definitely supposed to show air displacement from the heat. but the only reason we really see it is because it's in bullet time. considering how fast it usually takes place.

Clark heals pretty quick. ;)

I know that but healing quick wouldn't take away blood that had already been spilt. That blood would need cleaning off. Oh well, never mind. It was just a thought

My point for this thread was made in the very first line I wrote.

Also, in this season's premiere episode, Clark was dying if not temporarily dead and unconsious. J'on pops in and flies him to the sun which restores Clark's powers but...takes his away? So how does he get back to Earth if flying dangerously close to the sun takes away his power and Clark is unconsious? Furthermore, why does he still look like a human if he lost his transformative powers and not turned into a green man with big eyebrow ridges? Will we ever see his natural form?

Also, when was it established that nobody could see Clark's heat beams?

What I don't understand about that scene is this....

If Clark was dead or very close to death AND DIDN'T HAVE HIS POWERS either (as the show always says when he doesn't have his powers, he's human) how did it not finish him off? I'm sure if someone flew me towards the sun with no powers I'd fry!

Assuming the blood didn't get a chance to really dry, there's no reason he couldn't have wiped it off his head.

The show never stated that he was human. (at least this time) Simply didn't have his abilities. The way i interpreted this shift was that he was just drained of his powers. So he didn't have any of his powers, but they could still be kick started. like a car battery. *shrug*

I think if someone looked closely enough they could probably see the visual distortion in the air. However. If he's only using it for a few seconds, that's likely not going to be picked up. at best case, you'd notice something weird and not know what it was, as it would just be some weird visual disturbance in the air for a couple seconds.

The visuals are mainly to help the people at home. any time anyone on the show has noticed his heat vision, it's the effect of the heat vision they've noticed. IE: Melting locks on the wine cellar, melting a bullet in the air, etc. They're not sure how he's doing it. (unless they're already aware of his powers) but simply that he is doing it.

Say it with me people.
Superman is not Cyclops!

Who said he was? Cyke's optic blast is a beam of concussive energy, the equivalent of shooting a freight train out of your face. There's no heat quality to it.

But even if SV's Clark shoots "heat beams" rather than "lasers" as "Lois & Clark"'s did (which btw explained how he shaved) knowing what we do about heat from things we see regularly, (over sand dunes in the distance at high noon or the top of your toaster) those wavy distortion should be visible to people on the show if they're hot enough to evaporate bullets in midair.

Air distortion due to heat is possible to see, but you've gotta be looking for it. Especially if it's happening in a matter of seconds. When you see the air distort on a hot day, it's doing it for hours, it's easy to pick up on something like that. It's not the same as watching a light show.

I agree, there should've been some blood, and his hair was oddly neat, plus doesn't he heal only in the presence of sunlight... IDK I feel that's a plothole, but who knows maye he just heals naturally and wiped his blood off into his arm really neatly, with his super speed-n-all

No. His body stores sunlight. He's like a giant solar battery. It's just that when he's not in the sun for a (very) extended amount of time, or if his powers are drained (like happened in nemesis). The Sun in the source of his power. Being in direct sunlight only serves to make him heal even faster.

Ooooooh-ok, thanks for the clarification, I never knew that

How about the Varitas satined glass window that just appears in season 7? In season 4 the window is just a plain stained glass. If it was ever explained I missed it some how. And I use season 4 as an example just because I watched a few episodes the other day.

^^ Yes, the Veritas symbol is a S7 thing, I guess you could argue Lex "added it to the window" once he knew about it, he was obsessed with the whole thing (stretching it a bit). ;)

personally speaking, I know that when I become obsessive about something, the first thing I always do is run out and buy a stained-glass window... :)

The witch plot was full of plot holes, but I'm assuming that is why they ended it real quick and never talked about it again. :p

you should never bring up the witch plot again... someone at the sV production was smoking crack when that concept first got dreamt up

I can forgive the plot since it gave me the fortress.

Also, even though season 4, in my mind, is the weakest season of the series..by far...it still gave me some of my favorite episodes of the series, namely Crusade, Run, Transference, Onyx, Krypto, Commencement, and the Alicia two parter.

These episodes are fantastic.

nope, that whole season never happened:yay:

Plot holes for Smallville? We're gonna need a bigger thread.

I was discussing Smallville with a co-worker today and though I know the whole "how far away is Metropolis" debate has been done to death - I have to ask this question:

How pathetic is Lana's early season dream? I mean all she ever wanted was to go to...Metropolis, right? Whose life dream is to travel thirty minutes down the road?

There are mornings that my dream is to go to Taco Bell ten minutes away just to have one of their triple steak tacos.

What I'm saying is don't knock a dream, no matter how miniscule it seems. ;)

How are vampires a plot hole?

I think you're mixing up a plot hole with a silly idea.

Yea i agree season 4 was one of the weakest season but it did have some very enjoyable episodes like the ones you posted.

Exactly, in fact, Transference and Onyx are both just absolutely incredible episodes.

"I am the villian of the story!"

One of my favorite Lex lines.

Minus the witch plot and the exploding baby:bomb::wow:, I loved season four.:csad:
