The Gifted POLARIS the Magnetic Mutant - The Emma Dumont Thread

New promo.

[YT]TSvX-azZmG4[/YT]

From SDCC.

It turns out that Polaris and her friends are part of a mutant underground that has aided and abetted "dozens, if not hundreds" of other mutants in escaping the government.

Polaris isn't willing to cave until Reed shows her a mystery document and promises to ask the court to assign her a lawyer. She's not listening though, because she's too busy freaking out and telepathically throwing furniture into the two way mirror on the wall.

I'm getting MCU Scarlet Witch vibes with all the gesturing and the energy stuff.

Perhaps a little but the actress wasn't trying to emulate her.

In the interrogation, the two exchange threats, but Reed knows that Polaris could kill him if she really wanted to. With that, he asks her to collaborate and shows a folder. What she sees - and the viewer does not see - ends up leaving her uncontrolled and she causes breakdowns throughout the prison. The scene then moves on to a dinner at the Strucker family home with Andy, Lauren and mother Caitlin. They talk about school, but their mother is worried.

Emma Dummont, who lives at Polaris, explained how to study Magneto's moves in the film to emulate his own powers in the series. She even joked that she became "Daddy's little girl."

I'm getting strong Dark Willow vibes from her intro.

Oh why can't her green blasts be as big as those in the gif? :o

And the green streaks are lame. They are holding back when they could just embrace the full green hair.

Interview with the cast.

Emma Dumont talks about Polaris.

Emma D. talks Polaris and who it would be nice to have come over to The Gifted.

Yeah Polaris sounds like she is gonna be close to being a tv show version of Magneto.

Lorna's comic story arc the first half of last decade had a fair number of parallels with what we have seen so far from The Gifted Lorna.

As in fighting (at times depowered and with only a gun) an oppressive human government and trying to create a better world for mutants.

She was the true power behind the throne of mutant controlled Genosha for much of the time and after it was wiped out by Sentinels she was at the epicenter of the genocide.

Well after her view on protecting the mutant race from another genocide became even more ardent.

So far from what we have seen and heard of the pilot this version of Lorna so far is nowhere near as radical nor as willing to use deadly force as yet. We will see if that changes with time for The Gifted Lorna.

Since Decimation comic Lorna has been divorced form mutant issues, but still people shooting at comic Lorna or those she cares about tend to get one warning before their bullets come back at them and sometimes not that much.

The Gifted Writers: Check out @EmmaDumont's new look on set of #TheGifted! We promise there isn't a Polaris yoga instructor storyline.

Emma Dumont: Bahahahaha

I noticed in a photo posted today she's in a full green wig now.

I'm done complaining about her hair. The outfits though...

From Entertainment Weekly

I am more focused on something in regard to the audience and having the character resonate. She has a family she has no memory of nor knows about, but also the show probably can't afford unless it's uber successful sometime way way down the road.

How do they pull that off and allow it to emotionally resonate and matter to the audience?

Its fiction. If they want to put them in flashly costumes, they could easily do it. Look at the Cw shows.

Wouldn't that seem really out of place, tho, taking into account the severity of the situation they're in? They're just tryin' to survive, doubt they would care much how they look, while they're running for their very lives.

Tell that to Days of Future Past and every comic book that featured costumes.

This isn't Heroes.

Put these characters into their cb costume (that aren't cheap looking) there could be more anticipation to this

That was two established teams going back decades the X-Men and the Brotherhood coming together. There is no X-Men and Brotherhood here this is starting out Mutants trying to survive and from there they might decide to form actual teams from it.

Right now they are a few friends running an Underground Railroad for Mutants. If at the end of the season or next as I expect it might evolve into mutant superhero teams with a clear philosophies on how to protect Mutants then it makes more sense then a street level Mutant Underground Railroad doing it.

As for how The Gifted connects to the larger X-Men film universe, Redford immediately went to the multiple realities explanation. “Our creator, Matt Nix, has tried to explain that because of Days of Future Past, multiple timelines now exist,” he said. According to Teale, the X-Men and Mutant Brotherhood once existed in The Gifted’s timeline, but “the Sentinel Services are so successful at what they do,” Mutants are now in hiding.

“Why wouldn’t you want to play someone that’s trying to do good in the world when the world is trying not to do good by them,” Teale asked before alluding to the fact that some mutant freedom fighters like himself might compromise their altruistic intentions as they push back against Sentinel Services.

I think Thunderbird and Polaris — through this underground network — their relationship does fracture. Thunderbird has this way of thinking, which in my opinion is a good one, Polaris has another. Eclipse gets torn between the two.
