In terms of looks? I'm still on the fence, although while I'm on that fence my body is leaning dangerously to one side on the verge of falling onto the hate side as opposed to like.

On the fence. Some good things, some questionable things.

Sums it up better than my post.

I had similar feelings regarding Ledger as Joker as well, particularly after the initial picture of just his face. It wasn't until I'd seen more pictures & footage that I warmed to the general image of him.

Definitely more exciting than anything I was expecting to get. Glad we didn't just get a classic look. Joker is one of those characters where you really can stretch the boundaries of what he can look like, so long as he's got white skin, green(ish) hair, and looks scary and insane. And on a meta level, I do think it fits the character's nature that his look should be so different and against expectations every time (which for me is why Snyder/Capullo's Joker has been so exciting, at least on an aesthetic level). With Leto's Joker, there's nothing so far that doesn't seem like it can't be within the realm of Joker's character, but we'll only know once we see the movie.

I don't like what I have seen but if his laugh is right I think I will like him. He needs to feel like Joker.

I was on the fence about Ledger as well. Now, I have nothing but love for his version.

Some aspects I like of the look. I like the eyes, hair and teeth. The forehead tattoo and hahaha written everywhere is too self aware for my taste in joker. The jewelry and mocking of a gangsters look I suppose, sucks. Not a fan of his party look. Half buttoned shirt to show off tattoos. I do like a more physically fit joker though. I'm on the fence. Hopefully he has a creepier side than what's been shown instead of this rocker/punk look.

I like it a lot. He's this era's (parents of teens and 20 somethings specifically) absolute worst nightmare made flesh. Charismatic, excessive, vulgar, sociopathic, psychotic. Probably posts selfies with his victims. Has millions of obsessive followers on Twitter. Holds raves where he feeds youngsters dodgy drugs.

Much like how they're aping Miller's Batman with Affleck, it seems they're going for Miller's Joker with Leto as well. Especially considering when Miller's Joker has a lot of oversexual overtones and Leto has played more feminine roles in the past.

Overall not a fan.

Leto will be great as The Joker. That's never been a worry, and I think the majority of people think that, too. He got a very positive response when we found out that he was cast. I have no problems there. He'll be great.

Aesthetically, though? I can't get over how incredibly bad it is. I seriously can't stop looking at it, and thinking why they thought this would look good. I find the New 52 Joker to be abysmal. He looks hideous. I'm not a fan of the Leather Face look at all. But even that looks better than what we're seeing here, and I never thought I would ever say that. I guess looking like a straight up coke head is supposed to be a "modern look"? And it's not enough that he has tattoos littered throughout his entire body and face, but they also decide to shave his eyebrows and throw on some grills over his teeth? lol. And all these theories of "Batman knocking out his teeth" can't be true. It's clearly a grill. You can see from the reveal pic, that the grills are going over his teeth, and his top grill is capping the top of his teeth, and his two front teeth are exposed behind it. You can see it clear as day, his regular teeth are still there. They're not replacements from losing a bunch of teeth in a fight, it's a grill he purposefully puts over his teeth, because, you know, why not? I wouldn't be surprised if we find out his hideout is in a half pawn shop half strip club, on the outskirts of Miami. Hell, that's probably where he got his grills from, someone came in to pawn them for a lap dance and a line.

I'm definitely excited for the movie, and I'll be there opening weekend, but I can't get over how horrible this design is. I liked Death of the Family(not my favorite story ever, but I liked it), but that doesn't mean I suddenly thought the Leather Face Joker looked good. Leto could totally blow me away with his performance, and I hope he does, but this design is awful. At least he has green hair. I guess I'll give that to them?

agree to the above, BUT i must say i haven't seen him perform, and still need to see more actualy imagery of Leto's joker in addition to the promo pic that i didn't like at all. Which sets me down quite because - yes it was another 'philosophy' and has been poked to death but let's face it - that did not happen [ well to me not ] with Heath. The first heath promo shot made me feel like what the? in a form of curiousity especially after the BBegins movie showed great potential.

Nevertheless, i'm giving this a chance because of what it could be. I haven't seen the 'damaged' on his forehead in some filming paparazzi shots. neither do i recall seeing any tats. i'm curious, and i hope it'll end up being shockingly amazing.

if i have to go by to the paparazzi shots and the promo shot, i don't like it. personally i think his hair is too green [like it's giving light], and like said above, he looks more like a mental breakdown junkie that had a psychosis and has escaped the mental asylum and isn't taking his meds and slammed on some tats while tripping.
hardly the philosophy behidn the joker.

i hope it's quite different alltogether though.

A Joker for the times. I think people are really going to dig it when it comes out.

scratch what i said i just noticed i missed some paparazzo shots, me fail bigtime.

hating the damaged tattoo on the forehead. wt........f.......its real.
the body tats i don't like too. the open shirt even less. the flashy car and flashy wardrobe neither. he looks like a white-trash pimp.

damm.

The Joker has always been flashy...

It's not like he's very subtle about anything. They're just taking the character somewhere we haven't seen yet.

i'm talking flashy as in rapper-bling.

btw, has the joker ever been portrayed as a rich pimp-style character?

Well he's always buying crazy things like amusement parks, cars weapons and henchmen.

Part of me hopes (more like wishes deeply) that all this tats stuff is only a temporary look but ah well. I don't want to dwell on it and make up more reasons why they may not really be there for long. Haha.

Apart from his "damaged" tattoo, this is exactly how I feel .

Although I will say, as more time passes, any minor aesthetic problem will most likely disappear for me once I see Leto's performance.

I'm definitely warming up to it. I still don't care for the teeth or the head tattoo. But the rest of it seems to be spot on.

Yup. Golden Age comics.

It's very in keeping with his "Clown Prince of Crime" element. In one Golden Age storyline, he gets left a ton of money by an underworld boss, and he has a treasure room in his hideout and is flaunting his money around town.

This Joker isn't neccessarily rich...he just has a nice car and clothes.

For all we know he stole them.

The only thing I hate is the facial tattoos. Everything else is fine with me. I voted on the fence but I'm more on the loving it side of the fence rather than hating it side.
